It's been that long since Final Fantasy 7 Remake launched on PS4 that we'd almost given up hope on an Xbox release, but a new comment from Windows Central's Jez Corden has left us hopeful about the prospect once again.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Xbox Two podcast, Corden had the following to say about it:
"I've got evidence tentatively that there are discussions about Final Fantasy 7 for Xbox."
The podcast host went on to mention that with the imminent release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PS5, it's understandable that Square Enix — and of course PlayStation — wouldn't want to start discussing any Xbox plans publicly right now. Still, Corden believes FF7 Remake will come to Xbox sometime after Rebirth's launch.
However, this isn't confirmed of course, and just because discussions are being had, it doesn't mean we'll definitely see the game on Xbox. As far as we know though, the title only had a one-year exclusivity window on PlayStation, so hopefully we see Final Fantasy 7 Remake on Xbox someday relatively soon.
Do you think this is happening eventually? Tell us what you make of this Corden comment down below.

Patience pays off. Always. FF16 might just launch on Xbox alongside PC this year, same with Rebirth.
Discussions?
Well, 'discussions' could be:
Microsoft: "Can we please have FF7 on the Xbox?"
Square Enix: "No!"
Hopefully that's not the case though... 😂
I take as much notice of Jez Corden's insider knowledge as I do of Nick Baker's, which is to say that I take no notice of it whatsoever.
I just have this feeling that it won't be "let go" from PlayStation until the FF7:R series is complete.
I think there'll be 1 of 3 outcomes:
1. It gets announced for Switch 2 and Xbox follows after the event that announces it for Switch 2 (like the original FF7 announced for Switch in September 2018)
2. It gets announced for Switch 2 but no sign of Xbox release meaning Phil Spencer wasn't lying to regulators about Xbox exclusion deals
3. It doesn't get announced for either and stays a PS console exclusive forever
Option 2 feels the most likely.
I have a feeling Sony won’t let Square Enix do this
I saw at the start of the trailer for it something about Rebirth being exclusive until 24/5/24 or around then, so maybe something will come out end of May time?
That game was a major letdown personally. I didn't enjoy it at all. But hopefully xbox still gets it. I don't think it will sell worth a crap on xbox but you can't build an audience for these type of games on xbox if they aren't there. Maybe it will take a gamepass deal to alleviate the risk SE has in making an xbox version.
Jez and similar reporters are in a weird spot because they hear these things and see proof from actual sources within xbox or square Enix but that still doesn't mean it will ultimately happen.
Like the guy from xbox era that leaked the gears collection like over a year ago. He's been called a liar constantly because it hasn't been announced yet but people have seen it being played. Even if it never comes out, it definitely exists.
I don't care about this one. Give me FF3 Pixel Remaster.
I was under the understanding that Sony helped with the development, and also that Microsoft has stated that Sony has permanently blocked ff7 and silent hill 2 ever coming to xbox.
@S-Bacc well the business reason is that it won't sell well on xbox ,is it viable for square to make a port.
They can keep it. All the fans really wanted was a good pixel remaster in widescreen, not a completely re-imagined garbage story that takes them 15 years to release.
@BBB @BacklogBrad I liked VII Remake, but then I haven't even played the original VII, so I had no prior attachment to the story or characters, nor am I a massive Final Fantasy fan by any means. VII Remake and X are the only ones I've ever finished, and other than that I've played a little bit of IX and XV.
@Retrokingdan that'll be pc
@Mephisto2869 I guess it depends on what Microsoft brings to the table? As they already stated they want to push hard in Japan. So why not start by throwing money at Square Enix to port both FF7 remakes once exclusivity expires in May.
I'm fairly confident there's already an Xbox version of the game sitting on a server at Squeenix. I really do think it was ready to go at the end of that of that original one-year exclusivity deal. I do think that Sony took advantage of whatever chip on his shoulder the previous CEO had for Microsoft and renogiated to keep it off the platform.
that's just me and my tinfoil hat though.
@Mephisto2869 ah that's probably true
@Markatron84 Same here. FFVII was pretty huge when initially released. My roommate played a copy we borrowed from another friend, while I sat there and heckled. 😄
I'm pretty sure I have never played a FF game, even though I own a few. Strange that I bought and completed both Parasite Eve games upon release.
Meh. After tinkering with the first part, it kinda killed my hype.
The real time combat was a huge turn off for me. Same reason I've not been too keen on modern Final Fantasy in general.
I believe they have it slightly wrong. FF7 remake is not going to get released on the Xbox one. FF7 intergrade which released for the ps5 which will be bundled with FF7 rebirth is likely to get released for the series Xbox at some point. FF7 rebirth only has a 3 month exclusivity window which means a Xbox release is more likely. I don't know the exact reasons but FF7 remake version can't get a Xbox version at all, and that is likely why SE created a new version I believe.
I am content that most SE titles get a Xbox release and the Tales of series is now permanently on the Xbox along with future releases. Persona is now getting Xbox releases and Atlus is bring vanillasoft games to the Xbox now. NIS is the only developer that doesn't want to release games for the Xbox
@Rodimusprime13 Not just NIS. Namco has mostly written off Xbox too, and they own D3Publisher now. That's apparently the reason we stopped getting Earth Defense Force games after 360.
@S-Bacc probably not no,as the majority of gamers on xbox wait for game pass,
Sure, this isn't damage control or anything. 😁
I think it will make the jump even though it's been far too long, imo.
@NoLifeDGenerate NIS has never published any of there titles on the Xbox. Namco Bandia perhaps doesn't release all titles to the Xbox but most titles do get a Xbox release. With the release of the series Xbox titles are jumping straight to the series Xbox without any Xbox one release.
@Rodimusprime13 https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/games/company/79405-d3publisher
most? Not hardly.
@NoLifeDGenerate They are largely a publisher not a developer and they have released games for the Xbox in 2023. There oldest games were exclusively to the Playstation and now also release numerous games for the switch.
@Rodimusprime13 We literally had an exclusive EDF on Xbox360 and 2 others. All 3 are BC, but no new ones since Namco bought them. Yukes even released spin off games that somehow didn't get to Xbox in spite of the fact EVERYTHING else Yukes did the past 20 years is multi-plat. Someone is disallowing EDF games from Xbox, and I want to know who. Also, most of their EDF Switch ports are Japanese only in spite of the games already being released in English multiple times. They're clearly biased against the west.
@NoLifeDGenerate The EDF games on the x360 were kind of a joke at the time and likely poor sales had alot to do with it. The first two sell for $20 on the Xbox store but the third game still sells for $65. The other game they produced at the time Ombajana Bikini Squad ran terrible on the x360 and has only recently be added to the Xbox one store with backwards compatibility, it is now available to purchase and finally works much better on the X1 or better. I think Xbox doesn't see much value in getting the game, at least that is my opinion.
@NoLifeDGenerate 2023
The table game deluxe edtion X1
The card perfect collection X1
Ed-0 Zombie uprising series Xbox
Over half of the new games from D3 are on the Nintendo switch
Been working my way through 7 Remake on and off for a few months on PS4. A great game. I never played the original that some people still have an attachment to, but IMO it's stands up in its own right as an excellent retelling that takes advantage of today's hardware and still has a cool story. I wish Rebirth was launching on the PS4 too but that's not gonna happen. Would defo like these and more FF games brought to Xbox.
If only one of three parts are released with no updates on future content, I'm not sure I'd be interested in a project that may go unfinished. This is my only real concern for this remake. I actually was fine with them completing the game and getting some directors cut of sorts.
This is literally my most wanted game on xbox.
FFVII Remake would be great for those that don't own a PS5 or gaming PC. The trip back to Midgar is the highlight of the game for somebody like me who played the original. It was great to roam around Shinra hq, the slums, and nicer parts of the city. Even on the PS4 Pro, the graphics look very good for the most part.
@Kaloudz I've been holding off on buying pixel as I want to do the achievements, it does seem like a way easier job just to port them rather than ffvii remake.
@Mreeezie how does the combat feel? Is it like ffxv?
@BBB I found it to be a bit of a padded slog. It was fine and I finished it, but I'm not nearly as high on it as most people swim to be.
@Kaloudz same here I just want pixel remaster gi mi ffvi😭😭😭😭
@S-Bacc Exactly that! The porting costs have already been paid by the Windows DirectX 12 version. These games and Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection will be released for Xbox eventually, I'm sure.
That doesn't mean that the exclusion deals didn't exist and that Phil is a liar like Grumblevolcano always say, because it was proven that Square Enix games were ported to Windows and even Switch when technically possible, but not to Xbox. When there is a Windows DirectX 12 version but not an Xbox version and Phil Spencer said in a trial that Sony paid Square Enix for games to skip Xbox, you can't be so stubborn to believe that Sony is innocent and has nothing to do with those games skipping Xbox but not Windows nor Switch.
The Final Fantasy remakes will reach Xbox after Sony's deals and renewals have expired. The original Final Fantasy VII is on Xbox and some people told me that that would never happen, but it happened.
@Mreeezie did you play xv? It had this problem where the pick up button and the jump button were the same. I wasted so much time jumping while trying to pick up items.
@Sifi True. Nintendo has also paid for development costs of some games that have been released for other platforms afterwards. Helping with development or marketing only gives you a contract that will eventually expire; it doesn't mean that the publisher or platform owner owns the game.
I'd buy it...but I am so sick of double dipping this gen. I just wish more companies would be upfront about timed exclusives and try to get multiplats out the door (including switch version) same day and date. Because I am at the point now that I just wait two years...just in case so i don't buy a game twice.
It's only a matter of time before we get FF 7 and FF 16 on Xbox.
@Kaloudz we just have to hope n yeah I think so lol it's even on the Google play store 🤣🤣😭 mad thing about that I e is though it's jist old games aswell that have been on several consoles before aswell lol. Tbh I'm not even bothered about any if the others maybe would play ff7r but don't like the style of the new ones I like my FF turn based🤣 although I didike the ff7 spin off on PS2 play as the guy with the gun that was fun 😂
I stopped caring. I probably wouldn't buy it at this point.
My opinion is that Final Fantasy XV ruined the series and it lost much of the original magic older games had. To me the Silver Age was FF VII, VIII and IX, and the Golden Age was FF X, XII and XIII trilogy. FF XV and FF VII remake are not bad games, but not nearly as amazing or unique as the older games.
