It's been a while since we've heard anything official on State of Decay 3, hasn't it? The open world zombie-slaying sequel was unveiled in 2020, before basically going into hiding ever since. Well, a new LinkedIn update from an ex-Undead Labs developer could hint at why things are progressing slower than we all expected.
According to game developer Daniel Floyd — who's now moved on to work at Blackbird Interactive — the team at Undead Labs has multiple "not-yet-released projects" going on behind the scenes.
Now, it's pretty safe to assume one of these projects is State of Decay 3 because that title wasn't named in any fashion, but as for the other project, we have no idea! It could be a support arrangement or something of that ilk - or maybe Undead Labs has taken on another full game at this point - who knows!
All we do know is that anything Undead Labs develops itself will be Xbox exclusive. Although the team was only an Xbox partner studio when it released the first two State of Decay titles, it's been fully-owned by Microsoft since the acquisition back in 2018. Here's hoping we hear something about any of these Undead Labs projects sooner rather than later.
Is it about time we saw State of Decay 3 in action? Drop your thoughts on these developments down below.

As they opened another studio a few years back and also creating SoD3 in UE5 which only left early access in April last year, it perhaps isn't surprising they haven't released something and maybe have multiple projects ongoing...
We should be hearing more about SOD3 in 2024. This is a title i often forget about. Not on purpose. But i am looking forward to it.
i can't wait for State of Decay 3! It can't release soon enough. Really hoping we get a proper gameplay trailer in 2024 and release no later than 2025.
State of Decay 2 is a fantastic game, but I'm fearful that SoD 3 could rely too much on multiplayer and live service elements...
3 years of silence?
Either it's dead, or stuck in development hell.
@Steel76 i can't wait till a.i. replaces developers tbh.
@Steel76 maybe neither of that, the studio was expending to turn from AA studio to AAA studio so this + games taking +4 years of development, i dont see any issue yet, xbox Also has lot going on with 5 games released on 2023 (minecraft legends redfall forza starfield hi fi rush)
And 2024 is bright with hellblade 2 ark 2 avowed stalker 2,maybe also fable and south of midnight and overclock
So yeah i would be worried if we dont get an update next year but no rushing them till then
If developers would stick to my 6 month rule it would be much better for everyone involved. That rule keeps proving itself correct more often than not.
Gotta release it around October / November for fall vibes
Maybe a live service game
I'm sure that they are focused on State of Decay 3. The first game is like a game developed in a garage without money and the second might have started rough and received mixed reviews, but through the updates it became one of the most polished and fun games I've played. It was an awesome and unexpected surprise and one of Microsoft's best exclusives.
