Xbox Insiders are getting some pretty welcome features in testing right now, and as part of Microsoft's latest update for Alpha members, another neat addition is being worked on - and it could mean more time spent on the sofa.
The team has added a new feature for 'Alpha and Alpha Skip-Ahead' Xbox Insiders that basically means you no longer have to use the console's button to pair up a new device. Instead, you can simply select which sort of device you're trying to connect within the Xbox Accessories app, and the console will start the pairing process from there.
Down below is a quick look at how the feature works, via The Verge's Tom Warren.
Pairing new devices is more of an occasional thing of course, but this is still a welcome feature. We could see it coming in especially handy if you use the same controllers across multiple systems like an Xbox Series X and an Xbox One X.
For now, this is only live for those Xbox Insider rings we mentioned, but it should be available to all Xbox users in the coming weeks.
Would you make decent use of this new feature? Let us know down in the comments below!

Interesting that this hasn't been a standard feature since Xbox One at the very least. I worked retail and you have no idea how many people don't know how to pair up their controllers.
At this rate, I may never have to leave my chair again. Just need a commode that doubles as a reclining chair, and I'm sorted... π€£
This should be in a quick access menu of some kind and not hidden in the accessories app. Yeah I agree, why hasn't this been a standard feature since day one I'd even say as far back as the 360.
@Fiendish-Beaver Why did you have to give me that idea? Off to home Depot I go. I guess to the furniture store too, I don't want to mess up my current recliner because it's awesome
Good for people with mobility issues ππ
Here to help, @ZYDIO... π
That seems a lot of work for something that takes two seconds to do by pressing the button.
Feels like the whole argument from the 360 days of wanting to be able to eject the disc via UI when you were literally going to be beside it to swap discs anyway.
Definitely need to make is a quick setting instead of all these steps.
@Fiendish-Beaver Shame I can't post a gif/meme reply, or I'd have to post Homer Simpson's "Let's just say I'm sitting in the right chair". Just ignore me if that means nothing to you... π
As far as I can tell I still haven't even got access to the new dashboard yet. No update available. I could be missing something though.
No more using my kids for this feature!
We have four Xboxes in the house (all different models) and often change a controller when the kids brings their controllers to my Xbox or mine to theirs so we can play together, but it usually goes along the lines of me asking them to press the button, they then hit the eject button, I then have to get up anyway to return the disc or clean it after they get finger prints on it and then I press the right button, so itβs my fault for being lazy in the first place.
(TLDR: This will be a welcome feature in my Xbox filled house!)
Nice. I suppose the button on the console just activates a software routine so might as well have it accessible in software mode too. You'll need the button for the first controller, but useful if your Series S is tucked out of sight somewhere.
@InterceptorAlpha Handy if your eject button broke though.
It's one of those things where some people will find it a godsend, and others will never use it.
I actually needed this feature a month ago, when the button didn't want to register, and I had to restart the whole console. That is a great feature
