Xbox Game Pass Core is still more than a month away from launching, but Microsoft is beginning a testing phase well in advance. Starting this week, Xbox Insiders who are part of the 'Alpha and Alpha Skip-Ahead' ring will be able to preview Game Pass Core ahead of its full rollout.
At the beginning, only a selection of the 25-game library will be available to play, before more titles are of course added at launch on September 14th. Insiders will be able to test Psychonauts 2, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, State of Decay 2 and DOOM Eternal.
Microsoft is warning users that they're likely to see some mixed messages during the testing period. Basically, phasing out the decades-long 'Xbox Live Gold' branding will take some doing, and players may still spot the name appearing where they'd expect to see Xbox Game Pass Core.
As long as you're subscribed to Gold, all of this Xbox Insider testing will update automatically, so there's no need for action if you want to take part in the trial. While only four titles will be live during this Xbox Insider preview, Microsoft has revealed 19 of the 25 games that are ready to go for the mid-September launch. You can check out the majority of the starting lineup down below.

So what will they be testing if they're Ultimate? The same games they already had? I guess it's only for Gold but not Ultimate?
@Lup I'd assume so, yep.
You are doing free testing that they will completely ignore anyway. Dopes.
Also stream games to discord users has come out for alpha /alpha skip ahead

@Kaloudz The brains of the people who thought this was a great idea.
@Kaloudz I'd say "try". Those Gold members can check some Game Pass Core titles earlier. The verb "test" is not on the official announcement but on this article.
Ah gamepass core…where every gpu subscriber celebrated having ended up paying more for less game. Good times
@Bleachedsmiles Game Pass Ultimate members don't get fewer games because they get now more and more interesting games than what they have been receiving monthly as Games with Gold, and that's not counting ABK games later this year. Plus all the previous Games with Gold are still available so they are not losing them. After the Zenimax acquisition, they also get more games and there wasn't a price increase then. Each year, the value is better and this year's increase is the first and was what, one pound? 😁
No more two Games with Gold every month versus more and better Game Pass titles every month. How are they paying more for less?
For non-Ultimate subscribers, the value of Core is also better than Gold because Core keeps previous Games with Gold and adds a basic but evolving collection of Game Pass titles for the same price.
Game Pass Console doesn't include Gold nor online but it never has.
@Moonglow @Banjo- They literally just raised the price of gamepass - we’re all paying more.
They literally just removed the option of getting cheap gamepass ultimate via gold - we’re all paying more
They literally just removed gold games and replaced them with games gamepass subscribers already had - we’re now getting less games, regardless of quality
🤷🏻
Add to that the fact that gold finally gets dropped and we’re still paying a mp paywall… time to party 🥳
@Sifi as they always would have if gold still existed. Correct?
Times change programs come and go lets enjoy the catalogue regardless.
