It doesn't seem so long ago that High On Life became one of the biggest Game Pass launches ever - the over-the-top shooter struck a chord with Xbox fans when it arrived as a console exclusive in December 2022. Just over six months later, the game has made a surprise jump to other consoles as the team works on the upcoming 'High on Knife' expansion.
Yep, after rumours of a PlayStation launch began swirling late last week, High on Life is now officially available on the platform, meaning it's no longer an Xbox exclusive. The title is still in the Xbox Game Pass library though, and no form of PS Plus launch has accompanied the game's move to PS4 & PS5 - it's only available as a full-priced purchase over there at the time of writing.
On Xbox, we have a little something to look forward to as well. The team's upcoming High on Knife DLC is heading to the platform in "Fall 2023", and IGN has just dropped nine minutes of new gameplay showing it in action. You can check the video clip out up above, and here's what the developers have to say about the new expansion:
"We’re dropping players into a darker, scarier setting ruled over by a mysterious, goopy new boss named Mux. We’re also introducing two brand new guns: Harper is an ex-military pistol trying to overcome her past and B.A.L.L. is a pinball gun operated by a chaotic gaggle of little gibberish-speaking weirdos.
We're looking forward to incorporating more of a horror-comedy vibe in High On Knife, and we can't wait to hear what fans think of it when it's released later this fall."

I did try this, but couldn't really get into it...
When a game is Xbox timed exclusive = on other consoles in 6 to 12 months.
When a game is PlayStation timed exclusive = never on other consoles.
@OrfeasDourvas I get what you're trying to say here but "Stray" is an easy example.
Played the first hour or 2 and enjoyed it. Something else must have distracted me cos I never went back.
I enjoyed the game, but I don't think I'll go back into it for dlc.
I knew it was a huge gamepass but forgot it was exclusive. I hope it does ok on other platforms for the studio
@Scummbuddy Sifu too. It's mostly japanese games that skip Xbox and by mostly japanese I mean Square Enix.
But they skip Xbox so much they might as well just call their games first party titles for PlayStation.
I had a blast playing this game, but I think Gamepass was the perfect way to play it. After beating the story I am pretty much over the game.
I love how many that claim they love to support devs and pay for their games twisted their pantries in a bunch over the game costing the same amount it costs on Xbox and Steam.
Like, if this is a game you think you won’t enjoy, that would hold true at any price. If you would enjoy it, then “support the devs” and pay the price?
@BeerIsAwesome Mostly Square Enix like I added above.
@OrfeasDourvas Ehhhh.....there are quite a few Xbox games that they've held for years like Cuphead before going to Switch and even longer to Playstation. Sony at least puts a disclaimer on when a game is coming off exclusivity. Xbox doesn't. You'll have to just guess, wonder, or wait if the game will come. Both Sony and MS have some shady practices.
@Rafie But eventually they do go to other platforms. Are we ever going to see a Final Fantasy again on Xbox?
@OrfeasDourvas That is something fans should pose to Square Enix. PS was clear on how long the timed deal was at the very beginning. Games like Stray have proven that. Deathloop and others followed the same suit. Just like I told a user on Push the other day, PS shouldn't have to answer why a certain game ain't coming to a rival console when they were clear with the timed deal to begin with. At that point, it should be on the developer/publisher to be more clear.
@OrfeasDourvas No, it's mostly just Square Enix. And even then iirc, the deal for what will be the FF7 Trilogy is after the next game comes out, then the previous will come to Xbox, and FF16 will be another year exclusive. No idea about Octopath 2 & the FF Pixel Collection yet which is honestly more ridiculous than the previous two since there's no reason given why they skipped Xbox.
As for other Japanese games, I mean... yeah? Only country Xbox outsell PS is the US, and even then Nintendo almost always outsells that here too, so I can't really blame any Japanese dev that's not a AAA studio for thinking an Xbox version would lose money. And despite how much money they throw around to buy studios, they rarely use it to convince devs to give the Platform a chance. Maybe something like Disgaea or Arcade Archives would do really well on Xbox. But those studios don't wanna take the risk, and Microsoft won't take the initiative.
@shoeses I guess in most instances (maybe except for SE and even then we can't be sure) MS is to blame too for not making moves.
Star Ocean isn't coming to Xbox, no Trails games on Xbox, no Octopath 2.
Damn, I dread the day a Chrono Trigger remake comes out and skips Xbox.
High on Life was just okay. It was fun but short, but you'd have to be crazy to pay more than $20 to play it. The guns barely talked even on Frequent Chatter, so I assumed the big patched they did a few months ago lowered it dramatically, which actually led to a ton of dead air and kinda lessened the experience. Depending on how long it stays on Game Pass I'll get the DLC, but... that also depends on the price & length of the DLC.
@OrfeasDourvas If I had to make an educated (and wishful) guess for Octopath 2 & the FF Pixel Collection, Octopath 1 and Dragon Quest 11 got a lot of Game Pass downloads but not many actual sales. So SE might have Xbox versions already made or in-progress and plan to release them on Game Pass a calendar year after release. Hopefully.
@Rafie

Right, so when does the exclusivity time frame expire for FF7R and FF16??
I'm sure Xbox only owners will very much appreciate Sony’s alleged disclaimer🤔.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits never came to Xbox either
@Sol4ris Yeah read what I wrote to the other gentleman. It's not on Sony to tell the public what's going on with Square Enix and their possible releases to other platforms AFTER the timed deal has expired. Understand?
The fact that this game was the biggest Gamepass release last year is an indictment of Gamepass and the lack of great games on the service.
@Rafie
I did read your post and it's as informative as jacket potato. You are the one claiming : Sony at least puts a disclaimer on when a game is coming off exclusivity. And when people point out the ambiguities you get your undies in a twist 😀...
@Serpentes420
The fact that this game was the biggest Gamepass release last year is an indictment of Gamepass and the lack of great games on the service
The game's success/popularity can of course be twisted to fit a certain narrative. However that fact that COD and the yearly sports titles are some of the biggest games (most years) don't invalidate(or are an indictment) the other myriad of fantastic releases throughout the year....
@shoeses @Rafie Yeah I know what you mean as I own all the consoles. To be fair though these disclaimers are a front and FF7 Remake CLEARLY said 1 year. Normally it would be on Square but in this case it's because of Sony that the deal stays the way it is. So that disclaimer is absolutely useless at that point and not transparent at all. Which was probably part of the deal so conversations about it stick to what your saying. FF16 my favorite topic, you wanna know where I saw my first footage of it? On a Xbox showcase not Playstation. @Shoeses I love your enthusiasm but I'd curb it a bit of you think FF16 will be on Xbox in a year. As I stated above some of the first ever footage of the game was on a Xbox showcase and announced for Xbox. Somewhere along the line something happened and that changed. What reasons I have heard who knows what the actual truth is. Saying Xbox can't afford the rights suddenly after some kind a deal was already struck seems off. My guess is they changed the deal to some astronomical number that isn't fair or worth the IP with a nudge from Sony. Sucks that happened to Xbox only users AFTER it was announced to be on the platform at launch. My advice to you is don't buy their games they will regret thier choices in the end, Xbox is becoming a powerhouse. It's up to you to spank them and let them know this behavior isn't acceptable unless of course Sony pulls out they're wallet and buys them in which case I accept it 100%.
@Fragslayer Oh thank god, when I read 'I'd curb your enthusiasm' I thought you were gonna talk about the part where I speculate about Octopath 2 & FF Pixel Collection.
@Sol4ris Who has their undies in a twist? 🤔 There are no ambiguities as no one has proof it's Sony doing this. Which is why I'm saying what I'm saying. I don't have no dog in the console war race. I own all 3 happily. If you can't FULLY understand what I wrote, then I believe our conversation ends here.
@Fragslayer I hear what you're saying, but we have no proof that Sony is the one that's keeping this up. Just blind speculation. Warranted, but still blind.
I played this and liked it, for being a game on Game Pass. Probably wouldn't play the DLC (definitely wouldn't purchase it).
Awesome wasn't a major fan of the comedy but really loved everything else about the game. Turned the dialogue down and just chilled with the music and gameplay. I'm not much of a first person shooter fan but this also had lots of exploration and collection and even some light Metroidvania element so it really won me over. I remember one of the bosses being really hard but eventually figured it out... by getting help online.
Will absolutely pay for the DLC even though it'll be a while before I get to it. Added Sifu by ever-changing rotation of games I juggle and it's destroying my confidence in using an Xbox controller like a human. Like even using an Elite 2 does nothing for me. It does nothing!!!!
Remember when people ruined that guy's life over false allegations
I played the entire game with Kenny, the other guns weren't that funny. If Jusin Roiland isn't in this, and I suspect he isn't, there's no way I'm buying it. Like sitting through an episode of All in the Family without Carroll O'Connor, I'm good.
I enjoyed the game. Ill definitely play the dlc. Part of the games appeal is it's sort of over the top poking fun, hopefully the new scarier attempt doesn't ruin that.
