Of course, this is the precursor to the arrival of the Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake at some point in the future, which has already been confirmed to be coming to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
We'll throw some more details about the Master Collection below:
"The origin of stealth action returns. METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol. 1 unifies the beginning of the METAL GEAR gameplay experience in one single package. Infiltrate enemy fortresses all over the globe, complete your missions with stealth and experience the thrilling cinematic story of the METAL GEAR series. This collection includes the classic versions of the games, complete with minimal edits to copyrighted contents."

This is getting ridiculous… I really want to experience this since Death Stranding is one of my alltime favorite games and I haven’t played anything else from the master. But with FF XVI, Starfield, Forza Motorsport and tons of games in my backlog there’s no way I can play this in 2023.
Have they mentioned what will make this different form the 360 collection of the same games?
I'm definitely getting this despite having the HD collection but the plus side is MGS1 is finally on Xbox and don't have to bring out my PS3 just to play. Hopefull MGS4 gets ported in Vol 2.
Have Konami confirmed what resolutions they're gonna be? Looks like the same as the HD collection but then again it was shown on the Switch.
no Xbox One port?
And this is coming to Switch
Bit disappointed it seems MGS1 is stuck at its PSX resolution. I played this game on PC back in the day and it looks so much better at higher resolution. Hope there is an option to increase resolution.
Vol. 1? So there will be a Vol. 2?
What's left? MGS 4, GZ, 5 and Rising?
It would be nice if they actually finished MGS 5.
@Magabro 4, Ground Zeroes, Phantom Pain, Rising, Portable Ops, Peace Walker, Acid, Acid 2, there was a Game Boy Colour game as well... I don't think I'm forgetting any.
@Magabro And the PSP games, MG Acid 1 & 2 (doubtful they're seen again) and portable ops/peace walker.
@Darude84 I only played Ground Zeroes and MGS V.
The gameplay of V is still unmatched. That's easily the best stealth gameplay I have ever played, period. But there was a lot of drama behind the scenes, as you're probably aware of, an it clearly effected the game. The open world feels empty, the story is unfinished and they forgot to design clothes for Quiet
Without the Kojima-Konami meltdown, that game would be truly legendary.
@Markatron84 There's also Twin Snakes aka MGS1 remake on Gamecube
My heart just dropped oh my god I am excited, metal gear 1, the nostalgia dose might kill me. Yes to this a thousand billion times. Yes. Jeeeesus, I can't wait. This year of gaming news has been insane. What's that then,
Starfield in September,
Spiderman 2 October
Forza October
Metal gear 1 October
And yes I'll be playing mgs 1 on xbox, it'll be the right thing to do hahahaha
@MetalGear_Yoshi
Normally I would agree with you thinking there is no way Acid 1&2 have a chance for Volume 2...but then I saw Volume 1 includes Snakes Revenge.😄
If that game can come back then I could see the Acid games making the cut after all!
@Zoidpilot4 I never thought I'd see the day when MGS1 gets ported to Xbox. Luckily for me though my favourite game of the series MGS2 is already backwards compatible.
@VoidPunk I'm wondering the same. Can you believe I bought the Xbox 360 2&3 HD Collection and Peace Walker HD and I haven't played them yet? I have beaten The Twin Snakes (NGC), 3 (3DS) and both V titles.
MGS1 looks really rough in the video
No Xbox one or PS4 version is really stupid when its coming to the switch
@Solidchief That's the good news, that this is volume 1 so all the other games will be included in 2, I hope. I also wonder what the resolution is but Switch is not the best example of graphical quality.
@Zoidpilot4 I know best year of gaming since late 90s I reckon. Just watched the Nintendo Direct, a new 2d Mario on the way too.
This years already been epic already; goldeneye 007, dead space, RE4 remake, Zelda, Hi fi rush, Diablo, street fighter.
Starfield is the next one for me.
We’re gaming well this year
@LordFunkalot I saw that, the new Mario 2d game, man I'm gonna be poor in October haha
@Zoidpilot4 lol big time
I'm guessing the price will be something like 70 beans.
The NES games are unironically a big draw, as I already have the others.
@Banjo- Seeing as the previous HD collection already ran at 720p 60fps, the Switch should be able to get good results.
It won’t feature the main theme. From those games. Better off getting the 360 versions of 2 and 3 and emulating 1.
@Benjamin @smoreon Copyright replacements aside, the trailer doesn't show any improvements. I might be wrong because I have only played some games on certain platforms. Isn't The Twin Snakes a remake of 1? I played it on GC, it's a great game and looks good.
@Banjo- MGS 2 and 3 are listed as the HD Collection versions, so it'll basically be the original graphics, but in HD. 1080p60 seems likely, since the 360 and PS3 were able to do 720, but the trailer's quality is too low to tell.
Not sure why they're showing off MGS1 in its original 240p. Are they really not going to make it HD as well? (Either way, I think it's hardcoded to 30fps.)
Yeah, Twin Snakes is a full remake of MGS1, but Nintendo's involvement apparently prevents it from being ported to anything but a Nintendo system... not like they've been jumping to release it on Switch themselves.
Not going to lie, kind of a missed opportunity to not get these running at 4k 60fps. I'm still going to get this but the HD Collection versions were only 720p as far as I remember...
@smoreon I hope that we get the technical details soon.
Vol II
Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zero
Metal Gear Solid 4
Metal Gear Solid 5
Not sure if they will do the non cannon games like acid, portable ops, etc. Those three games above in collection 2 will already be a massive download.
Konami, what happened to working on relisting the 360 MGS Collection? : '(
@Korgon Fingers crossed. Would be very cool. I assume they're including Revenge because they're including Metal Gear so maybe it's as simple as using the same emulator so it's no extra work. Perhaps it'll be a similar story for the PSP games?
sounds pretty..good
Wait is this the basic version of MGS3 or does it have the "subsistence" camera (the one that became the base for the games going forward?
No last-gen version surprises me, considering that this is essentially a collection of rereleases that's also releasing on Switch.
@Magabro the open world was fine and more realistic. You will never see enemies all over the place in the real world, it just isn’t happening.
@JokerBoy422 These will hold the original rez which will look like crap in 4K. Even at 1080 it is playable but starts looking pretty blocky and strained.
@smoreon no reason to release TS when the collection is coming to it anyways.
@DdG1408 It's great that the whole set is finally coming to more platforms, but the original MGS doesn't really replace Twin Snakes or make it redundant, seeing as the latter has much better graphics, running at 60fps- not to mention all of the other changes (whether good or bad, they still make it different)!
By the way, has the resolution of these games been confirmed, besides MGS1 (plus MG1 and MG2, of course) being an eye-gouging 240p at 30fps? I'd expect 4K60 on Xbox, seeing as this is a separate release from the backwards compatibility versions.
@Tharsman The rest of the collection of this vol 1 will play at 1080p (it was 720p with the xbox 360 HD collection).
If I remember well (I live in Europe...) there was a code in order to download ... MGS 1 (the PSX version..). Of course, I bought the US 360 version but I couldn't get the download code working for an European account... Konami is really now a "shabby" company...
Too bad, but I guess it's"life" : you grew , flourish and then.... disappear, forgotten....

" Metal Gear Solid will run at 30 frames per second and display at a 1920×1080 resolution on all consoles. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will run at 60 frames per second and display at a 1920×1080 resolution on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Steam versions. With the Nintendo Switch version of both games, they will run at 30 frames per second and display at a 1920×1080 resolution when the Nintendo Switch is in TV mode.
All three games will display at 1280×720 and run at 30 frames per second on the Nintendo Switch when used in Handheld mode. "
@johndoe89 That's what they claim, but the screenshots and trailer clearly show that MGS1 is only in 240p. (If there was a 1080p option, I assume they'd show it off.)
I suspect that this "1080p" figure refers to some upscaling nonsense, kind of like how you can have pixel art games in "4K". There's nothing remotely HD about it, aside from the final video output signal being HD, so this comes just short of a blatant lie.
This has me wondering if MGS 2 and 3 are similarly running at an internal res of just 720p, which is upscaled (i.e., enlarged and blurred) to a faux 1080p.
@smoreon With the actual technology of AMD's chipset, I think you are perfectly right.
Is Konami a lazy or "in desperate straits" company ?
Worst : Konami is already trying to communicate on the next collection volume ...!! oh my ... It's sad , even if .... MGS is a unique gaming serial.
@johndoe89 I do think it's great that the NES games are available in Volume 1 now, and if this upcoming Vol 2 has a solid port of MGS4, then that's even better. I like to see as many old games re-released as possible, even if they are largely unchanged.
However, Konami has apparently done the absolute bare minimum here, and it's disappointing. Getting all of the 3D games (including MGS1!) running in 4K or at least 1080p should take almost no effort, as emulators have already been doing this for years. And I know that making MGS1 run at 60fps without bugs would take some work, but it still would have been a welcome upgrade, and I would have been willing to buy it again for that reason.
But instead, upgrades are almost non-existent here (with the Switch versions being downgraded from previous releases!), and so I'm concerned as to how MGS 4 will be handled. Will they just slap a 30fps cap on it, and offer it at 720p, with any PS3-specific references ripped out?
