Blizzard's Overwatch 2 team has dropped a bombshell today, announcing it will no longer deliver the game's long-awaited PvE Hero Mode.
This mode was originally part of the reasoning behind the release of Overwatch 2, and now in an official Twitch livestream the game's executive producer Jared Neuss has revealed the team "can't deliver" the original vision it hoped to, and that there's no end date in sight, so it's been cancelled:
"With everything we have learned about what it takes to operate this game at the level that you deserve, it's clear that we can't deliver on that original vision for PvE that was shown in 2019. What that means is that we won't be delivering that dedicated hero mode with talent trees, that long-term talent power progression.
Those things are just not in our plans anymore. And we know that this is going to be disappointing to many of you which is why we wanted to bring it up before we talk about the road map."
Game director Aaron Keller also mentioned during an interview with GameSpot how the team was "still committed to PvE" but it would be a different approach, with new story missions planned for Season 6.
What are your thoughts about Blizzard axing the PvE Hero Mode it had planned? Comment below.

So now the only reason for it was more money. 😂
Lazy lazy and lazy
@grumpypotato Couldn't agree with you more, these cartoony F2P games are the bane of my existence and are what keeps awake at night. In all seriousness, they have overstayed their welcome.
slow clap Well done, Blizzard. Well done.
So the only thing that was worthy of calling this game Overwatch 2 has gone, so basically this is just Overwatch 1.1 which they did just to get more money from people via battle passes. What a way to ruin one of my favourite multiplayer games from last gen, the sole reason I was excited for overwatch 2 was those promised PvE missions, Maybe we will see them in Overwatch 3 where they charge £70 for the base game and still include battle passes.
Such a mess of a studio. Maybe it's better off if they're not under MS management. They might get even worse.
Welp, I guess Overwatch just died for me. It's a bad sign when the new battlepasses make people miss the lootboxes of the first game. Unfortunately enough people buy the battlepasses that Blizzard isn't going to change anything.
Btw, I have probably close to a hundred hours on Switch for Overwatch 1, and maybe triple that on Xbox. But I'm uninstalling and not looking back.
Blizzard has become a lazy greedy company and doesn't deserve the devotion it gets from it's fans. They don't care about them at all and constantly show that
