The Xbox April 2023 update begins rolling out to all users on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S later this week, although it's a fairly small one with just two major new features to take advantage of.
Here's a brief overview of what's on the way, with more details available at Xbox Wire:
- Refreshed Xbox Search Experience
"Looking for your next favorite game, movie, and more? You can search for games, entertainment, and apps using the refreshed console search page. This includes a sleek new look, gallery-style results, visible filter categories navigable with RB/LB, the option to “search on YouTube” within the Movies & TV tab, and more."
- Adjustable Active Hours Power Setting
"With the Xbox April Update, if you have the Sleep power option selected on your Xbox, you can configure your console active hours, which default to “always active” unless you change them. During your selected active hours your Xbox will boot quickly and be available for activities like Remote Play and mobile game installs. "
Which of these new features are you most excited for? Let us know in the comments below.

Not major features. Sure lot of people will utilize these features happily though.
That active hours one is pretty cool - I keep swapping between the two modes for things like remote play and remote install.
It'll maybe mean I can have it "warmed up" for the hours I'm likely to use it, and off the rest of the time (not that it's exactly slow to start up anyway).
Active hours seems pretty interesting. I intend to use it mainly for getting reward points whenever I'm away from the console.
@Kaloudz Obviously your wife has hacked your account …
@Kaloudz Can't you just hit the "Guide" button, go into "Self Control" and select "Enable"?
Nothing game changing, but I have been using the new Search Experience and it's quite good, scrolling with the LB & RB through the clutter helps finding what you are looking for much easier instead of having dump of info when searching.
The Xbox Wire blog is actually talking about both the March and April updates combined. I was getting Deja vu so I went back to check the release notes for last month’s update and sure enough the refreshed search experience is listed there.
Active hours is a welcome addition, I almost exclusively play via Remote Play these days.
@Kaloudz ooohhhh...riiiiight.... The kids... Sure, sure. Just like all those ads for games and food huh? I get you, say no more, nudge, nudge, wink, wink.
I want my Xbox to show the dashboard in HDR and save passwords for known WiFi networks
@Kaloudz LOL, if it goes beyond the waifus, I'm also grateful!
"Darn that ChatGPT, it saw I liked frozen fried calamari rings for $8.99 at the supermarket and Persona 5 and made assumptions about what I'm into! That's the ticket!"
@NEStalgia Loved the Monty Python reference!
@Kaloudz I get you, my man. Damn those problematic "ads", lol. Some time ago, I was a victim of those, but on my smartphone!
@Kaloudz 😂 I do not have a snarky comeback for that one. It's fine just as it is...
