Can you believe it's already been one year since Rockstar unveiled the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S versions of Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online? Both of them launched back on March 15th, 2022.
Of course, the intention here was to deliver a refreshed take on these highly popular experiences that first originated back in 2013, with improved visuals and a better frame rate compared to the Xbox One version of GTA V, along with some other benefits such as improved loading times.
The question is, was it worth the upgrade fee to experience GTA V again in a slightly improved form? As mentioned in our "hands-on" feature, we felt that it was dependent on "how eager you are to revisit the world of Los Santos on Series X or S", while admitting that we'd find it "very difficult to go back and enjoy its sluggish Xbox One counterpart".
But what about a year on? Did you end up buying Grand Theft Auto V for Xbox Series X|S, and if so, was it worth the money for you? Are you still enjoying it in March 2023, and how much time have you put into it so far? We want to know!
Let us know what you think of GTA 5's Xbox Series X|S upgrade in the poll and comments below.

I would love to play the story mode again or just to walk around the city.
So if I ever find it for really cheap, I think I'll take it.
But I'm mostly waiting for the 6, like many people I think 😃
@ActionPanther There's a specific version for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on the Xbox Store. It's not a free upgrade.
@ActionPanther Yeah, it's a real mess.
I think the upgrade should've been free given that GTA V has sold over 100 mln copies, they soaked people over 2 and now three generations, and therefore I refuse to buy it.
Same with Elder Scrolls V Oblivion.
Any game with these massive amounts of sales, should be providing graphical and quality of life updates for free.
It’s just fine, I bought it using my rewards points and I’d say it’s worth it just for being able to play at 60 FPS, other improvements are negligible to be honest.
It's OK but i only played it for about 3 hours then I've not touched it since just want GTA 6 now.
I played Mass Effect LE, and Skyrim SE because they're some of my favorite games, they're on game pass and I could get the achievements again.
Other than a few exceptions, I'm not going back to any game to replay it anymore, there's just too much else to play, let alone for some minor graphical improvements.
I'm not paying for remakes or remasters.
I guess if someone was really into GTAV Online this might make sense?
I've been enjoying it. I do wish they'd bring the install size down a bit, though.
Played this game back on the 360. Stop trying to resell me the same game for three generations, and make something new.
@NeoRatt I wish Oblivion actually got a remaster… Skyrim, the one that has been released over and over, at least gave the anniversary graphical upgrade for free, you only need to pay $10 for some mod goodies, and IMO, not worth it. The DLC mods all felt very amateur by the side of all the official content.
Never played GTA V before, my friends gifted me the game for my Series S in August for my birthday, it's a great game and it was an awesome experience, can't complain here
@ActionPanther that’s what put me off. Which version to get now is confusing. That might be the story version solo without online is 35 full price up but the package with both online and story is discounted to 16 maybe? Tempting.
I'm one of the few people who hadn't played GTA V so when I picked it up on Series X for $10 on Black Friday that was my first experience with the game. Overall, it looks and plays great. Fun game and I get why it's very popular.
The upgrades don't quite feel like they are worth the price (compared to other titles doing the same for free) but are a till pretty nice.
Still a shame RDR2 didn't get a next gen shine up.
I would never pay for something like this.
I think the performance upgrade did far more than the graphics upgrade. Not much difference to the way it looks, but having it play at a smooth 60fps is nice.
I just don't like how they made us buy the game again. Should have been a free next gen update.
I got it on PS5, so can't vote for the first one. I think the current Gen version is superb. It's just, time is so rare, so I'm not really getting into playing it.
@BrilliantBill There were reports that RDR2 was going to get a next-gen version but the GTA Trilogy remaster fiasco made them just drop all their remasters and upgrade plans
I bought this with my series x in October because I wanted a disc game.
I skipped it on ps4 so last played it on 360 in 2018 and it feels incredible, although having missed one generation of updates, I'm.clearly benefiting more.
I still prefer 4 but this is absolutely the best version of 5
I got it on PS5 right at the start, cost me £7 i think. Think there was a time limit an then the price went up.
