It's almost time for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S versions of Grand Theft Auto V to get their long-awaited launch, finally arriving this Tuesday, March 15th. We've already provided our hands on impressions of GTA V for next-gen elsewhere on Pure Xbox, but how does it actually look compared to the old Xbox One version?
Well, we've got some interesting early footage to take a look at today, firstly in the form of the comparison video from MrWilliamThor above, as well as an excellent PlayStation and PC comparison video from TGG down below.
As you can see, the differences are... well, they're minimal. The game does look noticeably better than the Xbox One version on a proper 4K screen, but here? It's not exactly a substantial difference when you compare the two. The images we captured at the bottom of this article should help you see a few of the changes up close.
We highlighted in our hands-on impressions that GTA V for next-gen "is not a massive visual transformation" from Xbox One to Xbox Series X, but the added detail coupled with the much-needed 60fps performance modes makes this version the best one to play. We certainly wouldn't want to go back to the Xbox One version.
"Sure, it's not a massive visual transformation, but the Xbox One version has felt outdated for quite some time now, and the addition of greater graphical detail throughout the game coupled with that all-important 60 frames per-second target (in certain performance modes) breathes new life into GTA V for next-gen consoles."

Marginal differences if I'm being honest.
You can see some differences here and their for the positive. But like I said earlier today until you get it straight from your series x on a nice 4K 65” top end TV it all seems very little.
Of course me being me would rather have them spent all resources and time on GTA 6 and giving us a new game.
Oh look! They adjusted the gamma. Take my money! 😋🤣
Could've just given us a PS4 pro/ Xbox one X patch couldn't charge for that though
Will give this a miss.
I remember doing a midnight launch for this at my local Tesco for Xbox360 and PS3.
Was so funny as they had two separate queues, one queue for Xbox360 and one queue for PS3.
And of course the fan boy piss taking started as we all got bored waiting. Was all good fun though.
Those were the days.
Got it on PS5 this go around. Haven’t played it in several years. This time I think I’ll go for the full 100%. Never got it on the Xbox One or 360 versions.
WOW it looks sooooooooo different /s
It's 60fps mode and nothing else tbh.
Never played this game before so for me it’s a no brainer at this price for my series s.
Wake me up when GTA 6 is revealed... 😴
@Would_you_kindly Pretty sure they did have a One X patch, but they didn't show it here because you would hardly be able to tell the difference between that and the "next gen" version.
@JayJ nope it never got a patch for either the one X or the PS4 pro it couldve easily ran at 60fps if they had bothered but i think they were just waiting for the new gen consoles to come out so they could get more money out of people
I think it’s sad they’re still milking this game 9 years later
@Rural-Bandit I think the popular opinion is that people love GTA 5 and are more than happy for a next-gen upgrade.
A few gripes online don’t deflect from the millions enjoying this game. And many are willing to keep investing into it.
@Thegoodboy007 it is still in the top 10 of the charts every week. Just like Mario Kart 8.
That’s why they keep this game going. And that’s why Mario Kart 8 just got DLC.
This might be strange to console players. But for PC gamers, it’s very normal to have games live a decade or more.
