Well, it finally happened. Today, Todd and the team dropped the big Bethesda bombshell of a new Starfield release date, with the game now planned for September 6th, 2023. Even though the launch date is still six months away, that hasn't stopped Howard & co. from teasing more gameplay already.
If you've seen the new launch date trailer already you probably spotted plenty of developer shots with actual gameplay in-frame. There's nothing major here of course, but yeah, the team is already teasing some of what you can expect to see at its upcoming Starfield Direct event.

That event takes place June 11th, right after the Xbox Games Showcase 2023 livestream concludes. So, we're still a few months away from the Starfield Direct, and in the meantime we'll likely watch this trailer a good few times to uncover everything it has to offer.
Oh, and we'd expect every Bethesda subreddit under the sun to be analysing these shots in the coming weeks and months as well. We can already see some text that might be worth zooming in on!
Are you excited to finally play Starfield this September? Let us know your thoughts on Bethesda's 2023 plans.

Is it still going to game pass day one , it's been removed from the platforms listed at the end
@Would_you_kindly Yep, this is a Microsoft first party game so it will be on Game Pass day one. I assume Bethesda just included the actual hardware platforms here!
@Kezelpaso
The end roll did not say Game Pass, which I have.
But it should have done?
@Kezelpaso don't Xbox count cloud gaming on gamepass for mobiles & Samsung TV's as a platform though
Anyway the sneaky game footage in the background actually looked dam good.
Time will tell but looks better than I thought it would. But need to see more.
Finally got the Gamepass perk I wanted! (Booking annual leave)
2:20 The bit with the Alien dinos gave me NMS vibes, in a good way.
Even though it's on Game Pass, I'll probably buy this physically, if the game is actually on the disc. I know I'll buy the DLC too. I'm playing through Outer Worlds & Fallout 4, so I'm really looking forward to this. I know some people don't like FO4 but I'm enjoying it for what it is. It's nothing amazing but it's got really great side quests & it's a surprisingly good FPS. So I'm really glad we got the release date & we know when it's coming out.....I'm super hype for it. Starfield, Redfall, Spider-Man 2, FF16, Resident Evil 4, Street Fighter 6.....this year is shaping up to be a great one.
Great news it had finally has a release date. Embarrassing for them it’s outside the year window they made such a fuss of in June.
Let’s see if Forza makes it.
If not, I can’t see them doing the whole ‘everything we show here releases in the next 12 months’ again. Which is a shame as it could have been some great messaging/marketing. I just hope we don’t go back to having games announced 5+ years away
Looks like maybe Starfield will get some decent advertising along with promoting game pass and Xbox consoles, fingers crossed.
They need to give Redfall some advertising love first, May not far away.
As general public and some gamers won’t know these potentially amazing games exist on game pass and Xbox consoles and eco system.
@Bleachedsmiles
Well I said back in June 2022, Starfield November 2023 so my expectations have been improved by two whole months, so I’m ok 😊
@Dezzy70 ha yeah. I was one of the ones making excuses for them having a slightly lacklustre E3 because I figure last year was one to get ‘out of the way’ and then the 12 month thing pays off each year that follows…as it’s not filled with games that have had delays or we’ve already been waiting for for years
Ah well, it wouldn’t be Xbox if they could release games without delays upon delays
@Bleachedsmiles
I don’t mind as i thought it would get delayed.
Now if the game is top notch AAA then we talking definitely worth the delays.
Sony and Nintendo do it as well with their big AAA titles but usually then bring the big AAA quality all round, so if Xbox do the same with Starfield then that’s cool with me.
@Dezzy70 It will be great…I’ve no idea how it can live up to the hype though. And there’s no way it’s not coming quickly followed by reports of bugs and crashes. So my expectations are set there. Can’t wait to play it to be honest…been looking forward to it for so long now
@Bleachedsmiles
Amazing how things change year on year,
My multi console games preference 2022 to 2023:
So for me if I had to rank this year 2023 on what we know so far it is totally different from 2022.
Game wise only 2022
PS5, Switch then Xbox
Game wise only 2023
Switch, Xbox then PS5
Amazing how game release years effect things.
Looks like it's running at 60fps, maybe that's why they needed the extra time to optimize for the series consoles. I remember when they had the reveal that everyone was making a big deal about frame rate.
Starfield will be GOTY - period. You can tell they know it by the pride in their work. He just wanted to say “its a big expletive game” and do a mic drop…
Anyone else think that opening line of dialogue sounds like Chekhov?
Also getting a “Mass Effect” vibe in a good way….sorry for all the messages … a tad excited … where’s my paper bag?
@AlwaysPlaying "where’s my paper bag?"
Is that what they're calling "canvas" now?
@AlwaysPlaying I felt the same way, ME, Stargate or maybe The Expanse. Some remnant of alien technology that allows humans to reach distant star systems. More grounded than Stargate or ME though.
I’ll admit that Starfield looks like it could be incredible. I’m hoping I get those good, old fashioned Bethesda feels from this one. I want to believe.
