As many had expected, Hogwarts Legacy looks set to become one of the biggest (if not the biggest) Xbox launches of 2023, smashing records all over the place since its Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S release earlier in February.
Therefore, you would expect that DLC plans would be in the works, but apparently that's not the case! This was revealed by game director Alan Tew as part of IGN Fan Fest 2023 over the weekend. Here's what he had to say about it:
“We’ve been really heads down bringing [Hogwarts Legacy] to life, so at the moment there are no current plans for DLC.”
Tew's comments are strange, and we're hoping they don't mean that Hogwarts Legacy will never get DLC. Perhaps the team is more focused right now on the Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch versions of the game which are set to release over the next few months - once those are out of the way, we're hoping DLC will be in the works.
Whatever happens, we're still having a great time with Hogwarts Legacy, giving it an "Excellent" 9/10 in our Pure Xbox review the other week, but it'll definitely feel like a missed opportunity if it doesn't get an expansion or two.

Hogwarts Legacy does not exist in a vacuum. There are important discussions being had about the views and opinions held by the creator of the Harry Potter universe – views and opinions which we do not agree with.
Our goal is to create and foster a positive environment for people – all people – to discuss and celebrate video games, not to amplify ignorance or provide a forum for unconstructive arguments. As per our community rules, we do not accept any form of hate speech on our platform.
IMO it already overstayed its welcome. The open world is just brutal. The castle is its saving grace but you're barely in it.
Didn't they have to not develop a Quidditch part of the game, due to time and resources? That's at least a possible DLC idea, but may be too different from the current gameplay to bother, and instead go with similar storytelling.
I think when they made this decision probably as a year ago they did not know if the boycott would hurt sales. But with the sales, it's getting financially stupid to not invest in more content. They could make a huge expansion called' Year 6 Azkaban. Put in quidditch and add Azkaban as a new location. Add new spells like Patronus and Riddikulus. And new quest lines in the world. Expand the room of requirement. Add new potions and beasts.
Hopefully get to the inevitable sequel quicker. It's a brilliant game in places that can be improved with another iteration.
That's how it should be. Nowadays it's DLC for every little thing.
A surprisingly great game in need of more! I usually ignore dlc but would make an exception in this case.
@KonstantTrouble As s Hufflepuff you do get to go to Azkaban During the House exclusive sidequest. Though the area you venture into is small and your time there is brief, you do see dementors and the Patronum spell.
On topic: I would love DLC, although it has to be something quite fresh for me to be entertained by it. I think the open world is all to same-y, I would have preferred to have less of a huge open world and more smaller areas that are very different in style; Like Hogsmeade and the Forbidden Forest, but then also Azkaban, Ministry of Magic, Diagon Alley, etc.
I would not mind DLC at all. I loved my time in it, would love to spend more time in it, but hope that they leave last-gen consoles behind and focus on a next iteration. Absolutely loved it.
I want DLC so bad for this game!! Easily a 10/10 game for me. I am almost 100% my playthrough and I am almost 70 hours in!
