When the Xbox showcase rumours began showing up late last year, we heard suggestions that the January event would be a smaller scale affair than a typical Xbox live show. Well, Xbox exec Aaron Greenberg has confirmed the overall runtime following yesterday's official Developer_Direct announcement, and it is on the shorter side for Xbox.
Greenberg says that the event is currently tracking at 43 minutes long, barring any potential changes between now and the date of the livestream.
"Since many folks have asked our show is tracking 43 mins long. As outlined in this announcement our goal has been to be as transparent as possible on what dev teams/games to expect to see in the show."
Despite this being a shorter show than something like an Xbox summer showcase, that runtime sounds healthy to us. Considering that Xbox is clearly focusing on Redfall, Forza Motorsport, Minecraft Legends and The Elder Scrolls Online, 43 mins seems like a good length.
Xbox has also confirmed a separate Starfield showcase arriving sometime after the January showcase, although we don't know any further details on that event right now. As soon as we hear more about the Starfield show, we'll bring you the news!
Does this sound like a solid runtime to you? Let us know in the comments down below.

Ten minutes per game and three minutes for GamePass shadow drops.
Was wondering if they could convince me about Redfall, something's just not clicking for me, despite loving Arkane.
Then realised they really don't have to: Day 1 on Game Pass means we can decide for ourselves
Dates, and a few surprises and i'll be happy.
I just want a release date for Redfall
Mine is to make sure no real delays on forza but with comments about being transparent leaves me slightly apprehensive. 🤞
@Gloki_junior I don`t see Forza being delayed. The event will focus on games that were previously announced as `releasing up to the first half of 2023'. I think every game show on the event will have a set release date.
Hope you're right
@eduscxbox If Forza Motorsport does stay on track for Spring 2023 this'll be the shortest gap ever between a Forza Horizon expansion and a Forza Motorsport given FH5 Expansion 2 hasn't even been revealed yet.
@themightyant Arkane games are more of an acquired taste: at first, I didn't like Dishonored 1, on the Xbox 360, then, I tried it again on my Series S, and I've even finished without killing guys, ninja style! The same goes for Deathloop, which I initially dropped, then, after some days, I returned and played it exclusively, for weeks.
However, I've never played Prey... would you recommend it?
And yeah, I share your opinion: Redfall will be day 1 on GP, so, it's a win in my book too.
Probably:
Redfall with more info and dev talkingrelease date..
Some gamepass announcement and a montage
Forza gameplay trailer
Some talk about xbox studios
That's a good chunk of time. Although it might be a decent amount of filler.
Hope there isn't a ton of filler, but even with it that's fine.
I’m sticking with my.
Redfall before June 2023
Forza September 2023
Starfield November 2023
Sensible placed apart and when games are ready.
Also if the did release all those by end of June 2023, they probably have blown their lot for the year or leave themselves open for nothing the second half of the year or a planned other game gets delayed.
That's a good length. Honestly I don't have the patience to sit through a really long event as there'll only be a couple things I'm interested in anyway.
@eduscxbox Set release dates? Lmao! Heard that how many times over last year from numerous games.
My guesses:
Minecraft Legends: March
Forza Motorsport: April
Redfall: May
Starfield: June
@Grumblevolcano They are developed by two different development studios though so is that really that surprising?
@Dezzy70 They can release all those on first half and would still have at least Hellblade 2 for second half of 2023. As they said before, games shown at last E3 were games that would release up to the first half of 2023, so I'm sticking with that until the event.
@eduscxbox That sounds very reasonable tbf
@Grippie It would be surprising for them to be very close together given while Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon 5 are different, wouldn't it make most sense to give FH5 Expansion 2 some space?
@eduscxbox
Let’s hope you are right. I’m up for those release dates.
@OldgamerDave I would absolutely recommend Prey. It’s wonderful and a huge cult hit. Don’t sleep on it. Even better on Xbox Series X/S with FPS boost and faster load times.
@themightyant Thanks, mate! I just needed a genuine recommendation to finally try it. Gonna download it today!
No worries. Let us know how you get along. Hope you enjoy it!
