It finally happened, folks! Microsoft has awoken from its 2022 slumber to announce Xbox 'Developer_Direct', an upcoming livestream featuring deep dives on Redfall, Forza Motorsport, Minecraft Legends and more. Notably, Starfield will be absent from the show this time around as Xbox and Bethesda have other plans for the upcoming open world RPG.
Within the announcement post, Xbox says the following:
"To dedicate the proper amount of time for a deep dive into Bethesda Game Studios’ Starfield, a standalone show is in the works."
Now, we don't have any sort of timeframe on the Starfield showcase, aside from the fact that it'll arrive after the January developer direct of course. Considering it's getting its very own show, we'd expect Bethesda to go all out with its next Starfield showing.
As for the game's final release date? That remains up in the air at the time of writing. Bethesda is still saying "first half of 2023", although the later this showcase arrives, the less likely that launch window seems.
What do you think to Starfield missing the January showcase? Worried about a delay? Leave your thoughts down below.

I had a feeling this was going to be the case, even though people were throwing a fit that Starfield wasn’t going to be in the rumored, but now confirmed showcase on the 25th. Starfield is such a huge new IP, and lopping it in with other games for perhaps a five or ten minute showing would have not done it justice. I can’t wait for what Microsoft has in store for us in these next few months.
Starfield is a super important game to both Bethesda and MS, its needs its own space.
For me a lot riding on this game.
I know one big AAA game doesn’t make a console.
But this has been a long time coming and delayed, which is fine if it produces the results.
This needs to be up there or near to GOWR and BOTW, of course in its own way as a game.
Hi there fellow gamers;
like I said in a previous post, this game needs to win and impress all the people that they can and make sure this is an amazing, brand new Ip and not just Fallout in space.
Can´t wait to see more of this.
Cheers, stay safe everyone and happy gaming to us all
Starfield doesn't need a 'long' time between its 'in-depth' showcase and its release date - a month is more than enough as most people who would 'buy' day 1 would still have time to pre-order and/or buy it at/around launch - but even if you haven't had time to budget for it, you can always play it Day 1 on Game Pass anyway.
It doesn't need 6months of waiting, months of 'new' info, new game-play etc to try and boost 'pre-orders' and hype so I don't think this a 'bad' sign that Starfield won't release before E3. It could release the day before E3 starts or the weekend before (Friday 9th June - with E3 starting Tuesday 13th) with 'Redfall' rumoured to come early May, Forza could arrive in March (with Ghostwire too) and Minecraft Legends in April. Starfield could get a 'deep dive' in late February and release 3months later...
Until I hear to the contrary 'Officially' from Xbox, Bethesda etc, I am still expecting the 'last' info they officially stated to be still be accurate. I know 'plans/circumstances' change, but until I get official 'confirmation' of changes, of release dates etc, I will continue to believe they are 'on track' to deliver.
MS stated back at E3, these games, inc Starfield, would arrive in the first half of 2023, with Bethesda themselves confirming they are still on track to deliver in the first half of 23. Therefore I have 'NO' reason to think that things have changed. It may well be 'earlier/later' than some may think, but I still think it will arrive before MS take to the stage at E3 - as will Minecraft, Forza and Redfall too...
Oh man yes! My most anticipated game this year I can’t wait. I really hope it comes good.
I feel like a lot of excellent games this year are going to fall victim to their own hype cycles, Tears of the Kingdom and Starfield included.
Can't wait to see how my 2015 GPU chokes on this game!
Fingers crossed for this, and I'd like to see more sooner than later!
I seriously hope against all hope that this is a killer app from release. That's not normally the Bethusda way, but I hope MS management has insisted the game is in a passable condition.
This is hopefully the year when MS shows it has big hitters!
This is the right move, Starfield deserves it's own event..
Hope they announce a date for the Starfield presentation at the end of the Developer Direct.
No way is this coming before July!!
I swore after Cyberpunk which I enjoyed day one and thought was great bugs and all just not as great as they had made it to be. I would not let another game Hype me up. However, just reading this makes me excited I am a dope. The one game I wish was coming that would be super duper awesome is a remake of Morrowind.
Gee how many eggs you got in that basket Microsoft?
Good and now hoping that showcase happens no later than March.
I'm skipping that show, I'm already sold on the game. I want as much surprise and discovery as possible when I play it.
@Ralizah “Can't wait to see how my 2015 GPU chokes on this game! “
My guess would be like a house cat trying to swallow a tennis ball. But for the price of a mortgage payment, Nvidia would be happy to sell you a new GPU with loads of driver issues.
Game Pass is great, but sometimes I wonder if it somehow hinders AAA gaming, with the publisher (Microsoft-Bethesda) promoting it via its subscription service.
