High on Life developer Squanch Games has quickly begun pushing out patches for the game over the past few days, with the first update making big improvements to performance on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in particular.
Now, it's just received a second update targeting a variety of other upgrades, as you can see in the image above. Xbox One and PC Game Pass have been a key focus here, although the PC Game Pass version still has some known issues:
"NOTE: The team is aware of a frame rate issue present during the tutorial on some configurations within PC Game Pass and currently investigating a resolution for this issue."
Following the update, High on Life players are still calling for an FOV slider to be added to the game, and there are concerns that the Hunter Forums haven't been fixed properly, so perhaps we'll see these changes in patch 3?

With High On Life specifically, I have a feeling I'm just so distanced from reality. It is getting all these decent reviews, and the game is just plain bad for me. Literally no redeemable qualities.
I downloaded this latest patch last night and I’ve still got issues like audio cutting out, subtitles sometimes not appearing and the gun not talking when I interact with something/somebody. I’m having these issues on Series X. I’m hoping the next patch will solve these before I go back to it.
@Cikajovazmaj it’s a comedy FPS with an emphasis on the comedy. If you don’t enjoy the comedy you probably won’t enjoy the game. Thats fine! Not everyone enjoys the same thing.
Hunters Forum is so fun to read!
Something I haven't heard anyone talking about is how bad the directional audio is in this game. Sounds are louder when you look at them but other than that it doesnt seem to change based on orientation. If someone is talking to you and you don't see them, it's difficult to know which direction the voice came from.
@MaccaMUFC I have that issue too. I fixed it by changing the audio on Xbox settings to stereo uncompressed
@Cikajovazmaj Maybe you're just old
@Cikajovazmaj I’ve seen more bad reviews than good ones. PX here gave it 4/10 as did PC gamer, Eurogamer gave it a rare ‘Avoid’. Seems divisive to say the least.
I played about an hour tonight and found the gameplay very basic and lacking so far. Not sure the Nihilistic ‘humour’ is for me either, but sure some will find it funny.
It seems the game is having quite a positive reception regardless mixed reviews. Yesterday it was 11th most played game on Microsoft store's website, today its up to 4th most played game. Thats extremely impressive given that list is usually dominated by multiplayer games.
It's also 7th top selling game despite being free on game pass.
The great game that keeps getting better!
I don't think the game is bad but I had to stop playing after an hour, I played using headphones at full volume and the constant chatter and mortys voice was giving me an headache. But today il turn the chatter down to less frequent and see how that goes.
Not a bad game once you get into it. Traversal can be fun and it looks good. Nothing more than a casual funny shooter with fantastic use of swearing a lot. Would be a good VR game
@UltimateOtaku91 I’m surprised you have ear drums after full volume headphone listening. Lol.
@Cikajovazmaj You're not distanced from reality, everyone else is
I think there's 4 camps for this:.
People that love the humor (for reasons I can't comprehend) and therefore enjoy the game because the gameplay doesn't matter it's just glue for the "humor"
People that hate the humor and wouldn't care if the gameplay was Quake 3, wouldn't touch it at all.
People that don't get the humor but could like it well enough if the gameplay were compelling, but it isn't.
And people that somehow like the gameplay irregardless if they like the humor. There's something wrong with these people
The humor, idk, I don't get it. There's some good jokes in there delivered with terrible delivery so they mostly fall flat. I still wonder about his anyone thinks it's hilarious but it's a reminder to swing wide past most of humanity... This seems like a 13 year olds idea of "hilarious"
@NEStalgia @themightyant The gameplay is great! How far have you gotten? It's a Metroidvania so your options at the start for combat and traversal are naturally limited. You get some pretty great guns and tools as you progress! Even the knife and dodge that you get after the first level add a ton!
@NEStalgia Don't tell me what I should like or shouldn't. Due to the creative weapons with unique ways to blow up baddies, this is the most original and satisfying shooter I've played in quite some time. The platform elements only throw in extra varieties in how to kill bad guys - I really dig it.
@themightyant The first hour is very chatter-focused, but once you'll get some extra weapons... for me at least, it became much more fun.
@Door I got up to the river canyon and wasn't feeling the combat so I stopped. But it's short so I will probably go back in January as that is always my backlog month where I try and play as many short games as possible.
I actually started that Jan effort early and spent the weekend playing Nobody Saves the World, The Gunk, The Pedestrian & Olija instead. First two were brilliant. Pedestrian was OK, just started the last.
@Bartig good to hear. Also that you can tune it down in settings.
@Bartig @Door I can't tell you not to like it. But the shooting mechanics feel worse than Fallout 3. Which was bad... There's a decent gameplay concept in there but the implementation is just poor. I can understand that people that like the humor can have an ok enough time plodding on with gameplay because they enjoy the writing, but I just can't see how people can like this specifically for rough and clunky gameplay. I can't see loading up game pass and seeing the variety of games with quality shooting available and picking this one to play, unless it's just to experience the writing.
FWIW I wish the writing were one that landed for me instead of what it is because I'd have liked a "fun" colorful shooter that doesn't take itself seriously, but this coupled bland shooting and bad navigation with humor that doesn't work for me 80% of the time. The metroidvania would be cool, but it's more about treasure hunting than progression.
I'll have to give it another try, but I've tried a few times to not hate the gameplay and left off in an area where I couldn't proceed through a door because battle music was playing meaning somewhere there' some bad AI enemy stuck on a box and I had to go find them and at that point I was just plain out
