Microsoft has officially announced the new Xbox Games With Gold titles for December 2022! These games are available to download for free for Xbox Live Gold members (including subscribers to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate).
Keep in mind that as of this past October, Microsoft will no longer be including Xbox 360 games as part of Games with Gold, so we're getting a limited selection of titles from now on.
Here are December 2022's Xbox Games with Gold games, with more details and footage for each of them:
Xbox Series X|S / Xbox One
Colt Canyon (December 1-31)
Hold on to your hats, partner. Let me tell you a tale ‘bout a gunslinger that’s been left for dead and his partner kidnapped. It’s time for you to head out to Colt Canyon, an unforgiving western landscape filled with hidden treasures, weapons, danger, and bloodthirsty scum. Shoot your way through and maybe blow a few things up with TNT along the way with a spaghetti western soundtrack humming in the background. Save your partner and other innocents, and if you’re lucky, you’ll have a blast doing so and won’t end up as buzzard food.
Bladed Fury (December 16 - January 15)
Accused of murder and exiled, Princess Ji goes on a breathtaking, action-packed journey to prove her innocence, rescue her sister, and blaze a trail of bloody vengeance. Unleash your side-scrolling skills in this classic 2D game based on Chinese mythology. Take on ancient enemies and gods using high-octane combo attacks! The art and sound design are gorgeously rendered, mixing traditional flourishes with a surreal edge.
Will you be downloading these Games with Gold in December 2022? Let us know below.

Oh dear seems a waste this does.
Let’s just ditch it and go Game Pass with online.
And free online gameplay to those that don’t want Game Pass.
That would be extremely competitive, especially free online.
Bladed Fury looks fantastic, actually. Will definitely give that a go.
PS+ next month has 5 games (Mass Effect Legendary Trilogy, Biomutant & Divine Knockout) meanwhile GwG can't even throw us a bone for the Holidays. Bladed Fury looks rad, but they gotta quit it with the rogue games.
Looking forward to Colt Canyon.
Just wish there was a bit more on offer considering its December.
I miss the 360 titles.
Still amazed they keep this when PSN essential absolutely kills it every month. Surely MS must see those optics?
I've never once downloaded a GwG game, they are a complete waste of my time.
However, I've played Bladed Fury and its not too bad, a solid 7/10 and worth it if you fancy a last gen side scroller....
Plus offers Mass Effect and Biomuntant and Gold offers why bother.
Never heard of either but Bladed Fury looks like my kinda jam.
Opencritic scrores
All I want for Christmas is.. not this? Nothing for me here..
Bladed Fury actually looks cool.
It's cool PS+ has Mass Effect but it's already on Game Pass.
Ah, With my series x. I can really use these 2 games use the power I have on my console...........NO, crap another month gold game. I think Microsoft need to get off the GOLD and take some off money the game pass ultimate instead.
If they're gonna give us games like these, the '$40 value' basically being a lie with how often they all go on sale, they could at least let us keep them without still needing Gold - at least then there'd be some kind of redeeming quality to them for all the people who don't care about them. Still pales in comparison to PS Plus Essential, even Nintendo's online... can we go back to getting OG Xbox & 360 games? They said they 'reached the limit' but that's just pure bull.
@Dezzy70 I have seen comments like this forever and yes the games are weak* but if they bin the games you won't get anything else and will be paying the same. Ive seen it with ps Plus, my service subscriptions away from gaming and DAW subs. PS Plus used to give away roughly 4-6 games a month on the instant game collection (variable quality admittedly) and that was reduced to 2 a couple of years into the PS4 gen. Do not give companies the ability to take away your perks, that's the only life advice I will ever give out. Bear in mind Xbox live - you originally paid a fiver a month for just the online. There have been a decent amount of playable games over the last year including portal 2, broken sword and yokis island express. It's not Forza 5 but they are great for an evening session.
@Lup cool is an understatement. Mass effect is the best trilogy ever (up there with Halo, Streets of rage and the naked gun films).
It's great for everyone! Ive Played every game through 4 times now and it's so so good. Once the credits roll everything else is pants in comparison.

While I agree with your stance in general using PS+ is a really bad example. Yes they reduced the number of games but the quality almost instantly went up noticeably. Since the change we’ve had titles like Yakuza like a dragon, God of War, A plague tale, Persona 5 Strikers, Kingdoms of Amalur Re-reckoning, Tiny Tina, Dirt 5 etc. and if the leak is to be believed Mass Effect Trilogy next month. While not every game or every month is great it’s a lot better than it was.
Sometimes you are better off getting less, but higher quality.
Some of us were hoping when they dropped X360 games the quality would go up like that, but unfortunately not.
I will download Bladed Fury, but it's another poor month unfortunately....
@UnusedBabyWipes Ooof, I missed that and just bought ME legendary on the black friday sale.
All those complaining about the 360 titles because they had some of them. Well, hope you got what you wanted
@NEStalgia it was free on pc not too long ago with Amazon prime aswell
Why do you keep this around MS, you are not fooling anyone.
Oof. Someone needs to inject the Xbox GwG team with some festive cheer.
Is anyone actually able to explain to me why there is such a gulf between the quality of games offered by the PlayStation and the Xbox?
The only reason I can fathom is that Xbox wish for their gamers to choose Game Pass over Gold, but is that actually the reason?
@UnusedBabyWipes That selection is better, no dispute there, but the problem with your point is that PS+ and Games with Gold are very different services when you cancel them.
PS+ games are all locked as soon as you cancel your subscription, Games with Gold on the other hand are yours to keep forever.
It's so obvious that Gold is nothing more than a paywall. Even Microsoft with all their consumer friendly features aren't willing to give up on this free money.
@Acurisur
So your argument is 'Its cr@p but at least I can keep it'.
I keep my subscriptions on my machines for as long as I own the console. Even if I didnt, ive never claimed a gwg title because im just not interested in any of it, so id have nothing to keep.
Meanwhile this month I get Mass Effect Trilogy, which is great because unlike with gamepass, essential games are always available and dont cycle out, definitely a bonus for an rpg trillogy.
Also on offer is Biomutant PS5 version which is 4k 60hz. The other title is a fresh launch to the service, though it looks fun.
Edited...
When Gamepass is such an amazing service, its baffling that the entry tier is left so obviously sub par compared with its rival. Microsoft have made many crazy decisions over the years, and keeping GwG so poor is one of the craziest.
@Titntin I wasn't replying to you, but since you started with the smack talk I'll give you my 2 cents. Not every game on GWG is "cr@p" as you put it, and yes, getting to keep those games even after you cancel is a more consumer friendly option imo. I do still own a PS4 so I speak from my own personal experience.
Mass Effect Trilogy on Game Pass won't be cycled out - do you do any research before you post? It's an EA Play title, so it won't be removed.
GWG is not the "entry tier" of Game Pass, they are completely different services, and Game Pass overall is far superior to PS Plus, in fact it was a key factor in my decision to get an Xbox Series X for this generation rather than a PS5. No idea why you posted but there's a lot of errors in your statement.
@Acurisur Yes they are they are not enticing to me at all, and even most of the die hard xbox fervant supporters often post that they should drop the service. If you are one of the few people that believe these games are great every month then thats great for you, but I suggest you are part of a small minority.
Not suprisingly, no I dont go and research a reply before I type in a comment. You are simply being antagonistic, but I thank you for pointing out that that game, as part of the EA service rather than GP, doesnt have an expiry. Its inclusion on psn is therefore no more useful to me as I already have it, though Illnplay with the PS pad.
GwG is monthly subscription service to allow online play which comes with some free games. Thats exactly what psn essential is. If you dont think they are comparable, then you are the only person Ive seen who thinks this.
Im glad you also believe gamepass is an exceptional service, as I originally stated.
I posted because I like to share my opinion and engage in meaningful dialogue with others. I have no idea why you post in comments when its clear you cant take or allow for another viewpoint without getting annoyed?
@Titntin I didn't say every GwG game is great every month, go back and read what I said. I've never subscribed to solely GwG, my sub has always been to Game Pass Ultimate which includes GwG so to me it's completely irrelevant.
@Acurisur
Well thank you for at least not engaging in 'smack talk' as you described it.
For the record I am also an ultimate subscriber, have two more years stacked. I also have PSN premium and was subbing to NOW well before Microsoft had a game pass. As such, I'm also not bothered by how poor GwG is for me, I have access to plenty more, and some people collect earlier games, my needs certainly are not everyones.
However, the one area I believe MS has Sony trumped is via Gamepass. So I think its a little silly of them to keep this particular service going, when what most people consider is it's opposite number (psn essential) is clearly better value in most peoples eyes. Lots of people just sub to the lowest service that lets them play online. Those people get more from a Sony sub at present, and I think that's a metric that MS could and should fix if they wish to grow the user base.
My posts are less 'look at this goodness from sony' and more 'com'on Microsoft , you shouldn't let them take the win here'. I probably didn't express that well.
I think we probably have more in common than you think! Apart from a love of GwG games of course
Have a great day and enjoy whatever it is you are playing..
@Acurisur The BC GwG titles (OG/360) are free to own. Now they're gone. These 2 (One/Series) GwG titles will vanish when your Gold sub expires, like PS+.
