Can you believe it's nearly the end of 2022 already?! That means it's almost time for the annual Game of the Year awards here at Pure Xbox, where we ask you to vote on the best Xbox games in order to crown an overall favourite.
Looking back over the past couple of years since the relaunch of Pure Xbox a couple of years ago, your Game of the Year for 2020 was voted as Ori and the Will of the Wisps with Doom Eternal finishing in second place, while the Pure Xbox Game of the Year for 2021 was Halo Infinite, which narrowly beat Forza Horizon 5 to the number one spot.
It's not quite time to start voting just yet, but as we approach the end of the year, we're interested to hear your early thoughts on the Xbox Game of the Year for 2022. Elden Ring is the obvious choice, which boasts an incredible 96 rating on Metacritic, but we've also got the likes of Deathloop, Immortality, Persona 5 Royal, A Plague Tale: Requiem, Pentiment and many other potential picks that could spring a surprise and take the 2022 crown.
So, what's your Xbox Game of the Year for 2022 right now? Let us know down in the comments below!

Maybe Shredder's Revenge. But I am pcurrently playing A Plague Tale: Requiem and yet to start Pentiment...
@HarmanSmith A Plagues Tale was fantastic, Pentiment was boring. I couldn't even get passed a half hour of it.
I just finished my new game+ on Persona 5 Royal and I really enjoyed that game. My Xbox goty for sure.
I don't really count Deathloop as a 2022 game, but it certainly is one of the very best I've played this year.
I'd so far put Pentiment at 1, Return to Monkey Island at 2 and the rather superb Two Point Campus at 3. (This is for Xbox of course).
I haven't got round to playing Elden Ring yet.
Elden Ring. Easily.
Shame no first parties to come close.
Definitely Elden Ring..
Plague Tale: Requiem.
Hands down the best game of 2022 imo.
Couldn't care less about Elden Ring but we all know how FromSofts hivemind works.
Don't think I've bought any new games this year. Seem to just play older games on my xbox which is fantastic
Grounded 1.0. I’m kinda stunned by how much I like this game since survival games usually aren’t my thing, but it really got its hooks in me.
Omori and Shredder’s Revenge are up there too though
Haven't played elder ring yet. I would go with A Plague's Tale for GOTY but Grounded has been my most played by far.
A plague Tale Requiem for me. Absolute loved that game.
@Savage_Joe That's why all the games people are suggesting are multiplatform.
It has games. Just no exclusives worth noting.
A Plague Tale: Requiem & Modern Warfare II
Shout out to Metal Hellsinger
I'm going with Plague Tale: Requiem followed by Pentiment and still obsessed with DS3 and Sekiro.
I’m going to throw some love to Vampire Survivors, that game is addictive!
I'm in love with A Plague Tale: Requiem, this is my 2022 GOTY. Though it will be Elden Ring but naah, Requiem ftw.
Played Elden Ring on PS5, but Elden Ring counts and it’s no contest. Honestly, Elden Ring is in a class of its own, especially in 2022.
For games I played on Xbox, I’d easily pick Immortality, which is currently sitting at #3 on my year end list. I still need to play Pentiment too. Pentiment, Pokemon, and Sports Story are the only games that could affect how my year end list looks at this point. Things are starting to lock in.
But seriously too, 2022 is probably the weirdest feeling year end list I’ve ever worked on. Most years, it’s sort of easy, but outside the top 4, which are a lock (unless those other titles join rank), it’s sort of hard to choose. Not in a bad way, just in a “how do I really want to rank things” kind of way. A “do I really want to put Ragnarok and HFW in there?” Or “really I liked Sonic Frontiers and some indies more, subjectively” kind of way.
Just finished chapter 1 of Plague Tale Requiem. Game is promising so this might be my GOTY by the time I finish apart from that As Dusk Falls was good, TMNT Shredders Revenge, Midnight Fight Express and Prodeus get honorable mention. Terrible year for gaming overall. God of War Ragnarok saved it tbf.
Elden Ring
Been gaming since 86' and I'm not even a big fan or player of these Souls games, but this game entered directly to my top5 all-time. Absolute masterpiece
I might have to go with Persona 5. 1st time I've played any in the series. Plague Tale was great but just a bit too same-y. Most addictive? Vampire Survivors.
Less common games I REALLY enjoyed:
Tiny Tina's Wonderlands
Dawn of Ragnarök Valhall DLC which was an entire game by itself. TMNT
Ghost Song
Of the games I played on Xbox probably have to go with TMNT Shredders Revenge. Absolutely perfect nostalgia trip in every way. None of the exclusives (Plague Take, Scorn etc) really clicked with me this year. That being said I'd wager on Elden Ring winning it despite no interest in playing
@Gkobz Agreed! Been playing a couple hours per day since release. It's a perfect game to relax to with some music in the background after work.
5/5 garlics
I had the most fun with Elden Ring. On NG+3 before I stopped to wait for the eventual DLC.
It's clearly Elden Ring.
Hopefully next year they'll be some question lol
Just finished Plague Tale Requiem and it's only a 7-8/10 from me. Nowhere near as engaging as the first one. Simplified gameplay with a focus on combat and an increased narrative effort. It has some astounding moments but I really do wonder if people are wanting to play video games or interactive TV series/Films.
Lots of great games, it's hard to decide. The big ones are, of course, Elden Ring, Deathloop and A Plague Tale: Requiem. Hopefully The Callisto Protocol will be a contender soon. Then there are the smaller titles that I really enjoyed: Grounded, Immortality, As Dusk Falls, Nobody Saves the World, Rogue Legacy 2... and I still haven't touched Pentiment, Persona 5, Vampire Survirors, Norco...
For a console with "no exclusives", it's keeping me pretty busy this year.
Elden Ring. Really, you had to ask?
@pip_muzz I mean, if your pick is Pentiment, which I'm enjoying pretty well, I think many people would have a similar argument about it not really being a game. After all, you just run around and read dialogue, an interactive book if you will. It's hard to argue that one type of game is "correct" and another isn't. True interactive movies, like Immortality or Late Shift, are all valid too.
If I had to pick the game I had the most fun playing, it would be Tinykin. Similar to Psychonauts 2, it was just a joy to play from start to finish.
If I had to pick the game that I thought was the most well crafted top to bottom it would be TUNIC. It really was a perfect love letter to old school Zelda fans.
I played Vampire Surivivors more than any other Xbox game this year...
@UndyingInsurgent95 this. Never seen the appeal
Shredders Revenge is mine. Played it through with my daughter and we both loved it. A shared experience
I really enjoyed dying light 2.
My game of the year selections so far are Overwatch 2, Xenoblade 3, As Dusk Falls and Metal Hellslinger. Of all those right now I’ve had a blast with Overwatch 2 the most, yet all them have given unique fun experiences while playing them.
I think its elden ring but tunic and immortality both are also incredible games and amazing adverts for gamepass
Tunic
Immortality as a runner up
Elden Ring!!! That game was amazing!! ....and I played a lot of video games.
I am afraid, it is Elden Ring...
@Desy64. Exactly. I played all the Souls games...but people played this that weren't Souls fans and were blown away!
Not Elden Ring, that's for sure.
Persona 5 hands down
Easily A Plagues Tale for me.
TMNT Shredder's Revenge without a doubt. That was was just perfect in every way.
My top two are Immortality and Shredder’s Revenge. Immortality was so unique. 1000/1000 achievements for me. Shredder’s Revenge was a perfect co-op beat ‘em up.
Haven't played a second of Elden Ring and I really don't have any interest in the game whatsoever even if it seems like I'm the only one on the planet 😅
Even if I had played it though, my GOTY would still be Persona 5 Royal because frankly the only game I can think of that I have enjoyed more than that (ever) is Persona 4 Golden.
I’d never played a souls game and bought elden ring on a whim after reading some reviews the day it launched. No clue if I’d like it. Booted it up and I have not felt that sense of wonder stepping into a game world since I was a kid. Reminded me why I love this medium. I’d put it at my all time number 1
Definitely Grounded 1.0.
The best game is without a doubt The Last of Us Part 1 on PS5. Best new game then God of War Ragnarok. Best game on my Xbox probably Elden Ring. Xbox has been ***** this year 3rd party games aside. Looking forward to 2023, just hope the big Xbox exclusives live up to the hype.
mine would be as dusk falls loved it
Elden Ring. I didnt play it on Xbox, but its goty for me. Closely followed by GOW and HFW.
Elden Ring felt like something I hadn't ever experienced before. Good as the other titles were (and they were fantastic), they were continuations of games I had played before.
Im afraid for me I havent had the best of years on my series X, because I tend to prefer big AAA bangers over well realised indies,
and I expect I'll get many more of them next year.
Elden Ring is by far the best game of the year. But a massive shout out to Grounded too. I just can't get over how good the game is, it's so clever and totally unexpected. I delayed playing it because I did not think it'd be my type of game, but right now I'm hooked.
Tinykin made me smile
Right now I am struggling with Elden Ring, loving it. But the best Xbox experience I had this year was Scorn, no one remembers it anymore.
@pip_muzz completely agree, I much prefered the first game, even though the second is superficially shinier. The story is so contrived, I just cant gel with it. Amecia is now a one woman army killing everthing and leaving a body count behind that is completely rediculous, whilst dragging a plauge carrier from town to town and wandering why everyone is dying? I thought I was the only one who wanted to punch Hugo everytime he spoke, but ive since seen 'zero punctuation' s' take on the game and at least I share that urge with yahtzee. By far my biggest dissapointment this year, very pretty, but dumbed down to something that makes little sense and abbandonned any idea of historical accuracy. At least it was GP title, so I didnt waste my money.
Im glad many have enjoyed it, but it was not for me.
Not elden ring for me (played it for about 70h and at some point got bored and never came back. I much prefer all Dark Souls with their set of dungeons instead of open world). I really liked As dusk falls but I have yesterday started Vampire survivors and oh Boy... It may well take the cake!!
Elden Ring, no contest
TMNT Shredder's Revenge
Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous, or Elden Ring
It's Elden Ring for me by far. I've not had a game suck me into 200 hours of straight gaming ever, even Zelda BotW only got 120 for me which was shocking at the time. Having never beat a Souls game (I tried Dark Souls 1 Remastered on Switch, liked it but kinda stopped mid way for other games) I can say this was a fantastic experience. ESPECIALLY for a new IP! Loved it. I'm not on social media so wasn't drawn in by the hype. I could just get this game and go.
I think even for a game like God of War (which I haven't played) it'd be hard to sink as much time into the world and character as in Elden Ring. You really imact the entire world with your decisions which led to me beating the game twice. Again haven't beaten an RPG back to back in such a long time, think Elder Scrolls Oblivion on 360? So many great and somber moments. Alexander Warrior Jar and Jar Bairn straight broke my heart, great gaming memory from these two.
Other games I have played I enjoyed this year (some are older titles): Death Loop, Scorn, Assassin's Creed Origins, too many game pass games to count and a bunch of retro games on Evercade.
ELDIN RING, over 600+ hours, I have a wife a daughter two dogs a job in between all of that I played as much as possible it was my addiction......... I bought a classic car that's what I'm up too ......... until DLC time.
Enjoyed a lot of games on GP & less new games on Ninty & a couple exclusives on PS but so difficult to pick one imo. Really was waiting for 1 next gen title on console that would blow me away. But with that being said, a lot of overall good games (several genres too) are available on every console. As a gamer that is a good thing.
Shredder's Revenge.
Not only a great retro beat-em-up but I loved the pizza key fob I got with it.
Yes, I'm that shallow!
And lovely.
Gears of War Ultimate Edition
Nothing other than Elden Ring !
For me it's TMNT: Shredder's Revenge. Close second is The King of Fighters XV, my favorite fighting game of the last few years.
