Last week, we took a look at the highest-rated Xbox games of 2022 (according to Metacritic), with Persona 5 Royal having recently joined the lineup in second place, but what about us here at Pure Xbox? What have we been giving top marks to over the past ten months?
Well, the answer is that we've awarded the "Outstanding" 10/10 verdict to four games so far this year.
Below, you'll find snippets from each review:
Elden Ring (March 4th, 2022)
"Elden Ring is a crowning achievement for FromSoftware and undoubtedly the very best gameplay experience they've yet delivered - and that's really saying something given this developer's incredible back catalogue."
Immortality (August 30th, 2022)
"Immortality is easily Sam Barlow's best game to date and, when you consider the delights he's served up previously, well, you get an idea of just how good this one really is."
Deathloop (September 20th, 2022)
"Get busy unlocking new powers, blinking in behind bad guys, stabbing and shooting and skulking around, scouring environments for clues, choosing which lead to follow next as you push and pull and probe every corner, every wrinkle of this labyrinthian puzzle box."
Persona 5 Royal (October 20th, 2022)
"One of the best games of the last generation of consoles, and in with a very strong shout as the greatest JRPG of all time, Persona 5 Royal makes for a fantastic new addition to Xbox Game Pass."
All four of the Xbox games we've awarded "Outstanding" scores to in 2022 are also included in the top ten Metacritic list, with Elden Ring currently sitting in first place. As for the rest on the list, we gave 9/10 scores to The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe, Rogue Legacy 2, TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, A Plague Tale: Requiem and Tunic, with just Cuphead in the Delicious Last Course missing out as that currently remains unscored on Pure Xbox.
And of course, we're not done yet! There's still the potential for one or two surprises before the end of the year, so we may yet have another 10/10 score to award in 2022 - let's hope so! We'll see what the next couple of months bring...
What games would you award an "Outstanding" 10/10 score to in 2022? Let us know down below.

Elden Ring and Persona 5 Royal are the easiest 10/10 experiences here. I haven’t played Immortality and probably never will, so I can lend judgment on that. As for Deathloop, I personally loved that game head to toe. A lot of people are harsh on the game due to tons of mainstream outlets - and other game journalists - rating it 10/10, but the game is excellent.
4 games on xbox were given 10’s not xbox games should be the title. Also shocker Persona 5 is still incredible years after it was deemed incredible by the majority
@BBB Your comment doesn’t make a ton of sense. Every game made is going to have some issues. I suppose you don’t consider any game a 10/10 then? I’m assuming you consider a 10/10 perfect? If that’s the case then so be it, but most outlets that do a number ranking don’t consider 10s perfect. I’d be curious to hear what you consider a 10/10, if you even do have games that you hold to that caliber.
Elden Ring is one of those games that sort of redefines gaming. When Metroid Dread released last year, I said that I realized how much I’ve overrated a lot of titles because I remembered what an authentic 10/10 felt like after not truly playing one in a while, and then Elden Ring comes along, not only being an excellent game, but redefining a genre. I can’t say enough about how positive it was as a gaming experience.
Immortality is another strong title. I’d personally give it a 9.5/10. The game is just such a unique piece of art. There’s nothing like it. The experience is haunting and unlike anything else. It’s deeply immersive, as well. I can’t find a flaw in it, outside the fact that I enjoyed two other games more than it this year, and I know I can’t give one of them a 10/10! Lol. I think it’s potentially a 10/10, but personal semantics are in my way for that!
Deathloop, I think the game’s an 8.5/10. I think it’s an absolutely essential title for anyone to play because it’s such an in-depth meta-commentary on the FPS genre. I like it’s ideas, gameplay, and level design immensely. The puzzle solving is excellent as well. However, the game grated on me a bit because of the characters. Not the two main characters, but the other ones. It’s an essential title though because the game will mean different things to different players.
And then there’s Persona 5… I just… I’ve never been able to sink enough time into it. It’s so long and, well, if I couldn’t get through it in 2020… you know what I mean. I wish there was an abridged version.
Elden Ring needs to come to Gamepass...
@BBB Hm; interesting. To each their own, I suppose.
Agree 100% for Deathloop. Didn’t Persona or Immortality (just not my thing)
Elden Ring I agree but only while playing on the ps4 version on PS5 which has a 99% locked 60fps
Deathloop was an extremely hard game for me to finish. Just was not fun at all. Anything above a 6 is unrealistic. Bad AI, mediocre gunplay, meh story.
Nope to any of these. Persona 5 is a solid 8.5/9 though. If it wasn't for Tartarus 2.0 and some predictable stuff could have been the best in the series.
I just finished A Plague Tale: Requiem and, man... that game ALMOST desearves a 10/10. The only downside holding it back is the combat being bad. Which would be fine if there weren't a few mandatory combat gauntlets throughout the story. But other than that minor hiccup, it's a superb game. It's up there with Naughty Dog's narrative driven adventures on Playstation.
Elden ring and Persona 5 royal
Ooo I didn't know you gave Immortality a 10.
The other day, my partner asked me what rating I'd give Immortality considering she watched me play it.
She seemed surprised when I told her that I'd give it a solid 9. I explained that it did what it set it out to do. Gameplay wise, it had modest ambition that was excellently achieved.
It was unique in its game mechanic. The films were mostly entertaining especially as they ramped up to their finales and the secret 4th story was intriguing.
Collecting all the clips was fun and my favourite part of the game
I fully agree with Elden Ring and Persona 5 Royal being a 10, they are both generation defining games (if that makes sense).
I haven't played Deathloop yet although I will probably start it this weekend once I'm done with Beacon pines. But from the gameplay I've seen and the amount of people who complained about its repetitiveness then I don't see why it's a 10, but saying that persona 5 is a 10 and that's repetitive as hell.
And I don't plan on playing immortality, those kind of games (if they can even be called that) seem to boring and weird to me, I mean I like some realism to my games but not actual real lol
Only other 10 I see this year on xbox is maybe the callisto protocol, I really hope that game turns out to be something special.
I think it's great that 10s are given more frequently. No game is perfect.
That said Deathloop wasnt for me (that AI?) and P5 is great, however I had played P4G to completion recently it didn't have the same effect. For anyone new to the series, yeah it would blow you away!
A couple of 10s available on Gamepass are Inside and Forza Horizon 5.
CrossfireX, Gotham Knights, Saints Row & Scorn are 10/10 games
Not many games I give 10/10s.
2022 games I've played through so far:
Immortality - 9
Tunic - 9
Deathloop - 8
Horizon Forbidden West - 8
Shadow Warrior 3 - 8
TMNT Shredder's Revenge - 8
Cuphead DLC - 7
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes - 7
Gotham Knights - 7
Kirby and the Forgotten Land - 7
Nightmare of Decay - 7
Pokemon Legends Arceus - 7
Splatoon 3 - 7
Stray - 6
Trek to Yomi - 6
Scorn - 4
Struggle to take anyone serious that tells me Death loop is a 10/10 game… no way, no how. It’s one of Arkanes weakest games.
Immortality is a unique experience…but everything is left to chance. Aimlessly playing video clips trying to find a link and indulging in some pretentiousness. This isn’t their strongest game either - the likes of Her and Telling Lies seemed better structured where you felt you were making real progress off the back of your own detective skills. Immortality felt like I was more a voyeur than anything. It’s not a bad. But a perfect 10/10 game?
Persona 5 I haven’t played yet.
Elden ring is my game of the year so far. And as close as you can get to a 10/10. But it isn’t perfect…it has its faults and short comings.
One of Xbox’s weakest years and somehow you guys have managed to find four perfect scoring games in this lacklustre Xbox year… talk about stretching.
Getting P5R on Switch, but Elden Ring and Deathloop on Xbox (mostly because neither will come to Switch, but also I like shooters on Xbox).
