Scorn developer Ebb Software has just dropped a lovely surprise! The upcoming "atmospheric first-person horror adventure" is now launching a full week earlier than previously announced, with a new release date of October 14th.
We'd been worried in previous months that Scorn could even see a delay out of 2022, so we're quite surprised to now see the opposite! It's definitely welcome though; we're ready to be incredibly freaked out one week earlier than anticipated.
Alongside the new release date, the team has broken down a little more about what Scorn actually is in a new Xbox blog post. It's certainly worth a read if you remain as confused as us about this upcoming horror title, but in short, expect exploration and puzzle solving as much as shooty bang bang. That's good to know!
Scorn now launches on Xbox Series X|S and PC, including Game Pass, on October 14th.
Will you playing this straight away? Or will it be a Halloween playthrough for you? Do let us know!

I’m still on the fence with this one. Coming to xbgp i will definitely pick it up, but I’m counting on playing for about 6 hours before i decide if this is for me. Looks totally like a tool video or an exhibition by hr giger, but i actually have no clue of what to expect from it. Seemed a bit slow and empty from early looks into it, but I’ll have to confirm or deny it on oct 14th
I've been HIGHLY sceptical of this for a while. Wowed by the visuals, detail and style but concerned about the gameplay.
But the more I've seen of this the more I'm starting to come around. Not every game needs to be a gameplay tour de force, a gripping experience in an atmospheric and visceral world is also valid.
Cautiously looking forward to it.
I’m looking forward to this. Like the look of it and gameplay could be something different. Bring on 10/14!
Yeah this game reminds me of Hellblade, a AAA action puzzle game that I didn't expect to be so good. it forced me to approach the game differently instead of expecting so much action. I'm def grabbing this, hopefully a physical release too.
Oh nice. Can’t wait for this one.
This is very good news. I was concerned this game would get forgotten about launching just a couple of days after the new Plague Tale.
Releasing it before that game gives it a better chance to shine. (And conveniently helps my playing schedule as well)
Stupid moving it further away from halloween than it’s original date. Hopefully it means they’ve something else to put on that week
@cmr_araujo From what I understand, the game length is between 6-8 hours. So, if you play it for six, you might end up finishing it.
I was concerned that for what looked like a Horror Survival FPS, the actual FPS mechanics looked painfully slow and laborious - especially reloads...
But the game isn't really a FPS game with a much greater emphasis on Puzzle solving. The opening sequence has no 'shooting' at all really and is all exploratory Puzzle solving. I saw several 'different' solutions for opening the 'first' door which required an extra body (or at least arm) to open.
Not every game needs to high action & fast paced with everything directing you and telling you what you need to do. This seems a lot 'slower' and leaves you to explore your surroundings and work out what you need to do to progress.
Not something I'd necessarily want to buy on day 1 but then I don't have to 'worry' about whether or not its going to be 'worth' the asking price, I can play it and let the experience, the game itself dictate to me whether or not I want to finish it. If I enjoy it enough to keep playing until the end, that's good enough for me. If I don't enjoy it, I haven't lost anything...
I'm super stoked for this and delighted it is coming out a week earlier. The Beskinski/Gieger-esque art design and eldritch tone are striking.
its a horror puzzle game... I'm playing it day one for sure
Looks super cool, I hope the gameplay is good too. Can't wait
@themightyant I'm expecting Mist ver H.R. Giger.
I feel like people are getting confused thinking this must be a shooter since it is a first person game.
I am here for the art style and creepy atmosphere
