Update: Microsoft has now confirmed the dates and platforms for this next batch of departures, which takes place on September 30th. Note that Dirt Rally and DiRT 4 are now just leaving PC on September 30th.
Original story: Microsoft has quietly revealed the next batch of games leaving Xbox Game Pass in late September 2022, and once again we've got a lot of departures on the way, including the likes of Subnautica: Below Zero and the OG Slime Rancher!
Keep in mind that Slime Rancher is being replaced with Slime Rancher 2 on Xbox Game Pass later this month anyway. Also, you may remember that Aragami 2 was expected to leave Game Pass back on September 15th, but the game's developer has confirmed it will now be remaining on the service for the foreseeable future.
The dates below are mostly question marks at the moment as Microsoft hasn't revealed exact timings, but September 30th sounds probable - aside from the two Dirt games, which are confirmed to leave EA Play in early October.
Here's the full list of games set to leave in the late part of September 2022:
Date | Game | Platform |
September 30 | AI: The Somnium Files | Console, PC, Cloud |
September 30 | Astria Ascending | Console, PC, Cloud |
September 30 | Dandy Ace | Console, PC, Cloud |

September 30 | DiRT 4 | PC |

Wasn't Dirt Rally added like 2 months ago? I don't see the point really. Now I'm wondering how much time till Grid Legends leaves and I'm really enjoying it right now.
I need to get back to AI Somnium Files, and maybe Visage.
Too much other stuff to play though... Guess that's the nature of the beast and makes me more focused with my backlog.
Does seem they're losing more games numbers wise than they're adding recently - I'm guessing delays affecting Day 1 games are the reason
I like Slime Rancher up until the part where I had too many slimes and the frame rate dropped immensely. Probably because I was playing on an Xbox One.
@gollumb82 Don't worry about EA titles because once they are added to EA Play, they're staying put.
@gollumb82 grid legends is a EA title wont be leaving anytime soon if ever, and Dity Rally yea it was a older game anyhow...
none of these games are really anything to cry over leaving gamepass In My Opinion...hell think dirt rally is the only one on that list i even played.
@UndyingInsurgent95 @Blessed_Koz
Hmm. Dirt Rally is a Codemasters game and Codies are now part of EA. That's why I find it weird. Licencing issues maybe. As for Dirt Rally, I bought 1 and 2 a long time ago. Played the hell out of both, too, so I'm good either way.
@UndyingInsurgent95 nah that's incorrect. I've seen multiple racing games disappear probably because of licensing stuff. Sports games like fifa get removed as well.
Have to say, the last couple of months the quality of games leaving Game Pass is pretty high.
MS could do with locking games down for longer than a 12month period. The last couple of months have seen better games leave the service than come in, and I say that as someone looking forward to Deathloop and having loved Two Point Campus
@gollumb82 Dirt Rally and Dirt 4 are being delisted by EA. That’s why they’re leaving.
Whew, nothing of much note for me this time, and I was able to finish A Plague Tale the night before it left.
@awp69
Thought so. Same with Project Cars 1 and 2. Typical for sports and racing games in particular, I guess.
Shame about AI: The Somnium Files, I was planning on playing that. Oh well, the never ending backlog..
@SplooshDmg super glad we got NES to play Ai Som now and when we did.
@SplooshDmg it’s literally a twist. Lol that’s for sure. I that game might actually break NES. Ultimate has to play to :c it’s leaving so not much time.
@EliSweetG Yeah, some games take a long time to play. I was planning on playing Hades but couldn’t find enough time before it left.
More people need to buy and play Unsighted. The game is one of the best Zelda-likes out there, and it has a very cool and unique concept that really makes the game standout above the rest.
Astria Ascending was not as bad as I thought it would be.
I would agree with @BlackMayge that Unsighted is a must play if you haven’t tried it out. One of my favorites I played this year.
So many games leaving…
i don't understand the point of adding couples games each month and removing aggresively a bunch more of them each week, the success of gamepass is in a always growing library of games not his contrary, i hope they will add a bunch of game before the end of the month as well.
I really liked Unsighted. Great gameplay, interesting story, and beautiful pixel art. Wasn't so keen on the time mechanic, as i'm slow and methodical, but you can turn that off, even if you lose something that makes it unique. Definitely worth a try.
@Kalele More games were added every single month this year until at least August. The service IS growing. I haven't counted September yet as they haven't announced them all but there have been a lot of additions too.
Subnautica: Below Zero its newer than Subnautica right? Just wondering why they remove the second first. Never try the Subnautica games they are good?
@Shramm No it isn't. A lot who loved the first though the second was very average, and a disappointing follow up.
@themightyant but the first one its good? Never give a try.
@Shramm It's brilliant. You have to fend for yourself at the beginning a bit, I was a little confused at first as it doesn't hold your hand, but once you get past that it's a brilliant game of exploration and survival.
argh why visage right before october
@Cikajovazmaj It's a 20 hour game, you have time to complete it before it leaves.
@Reptilio Because generally speaking Xbox only agrees to a 12 month deal for these games to be part of Game Pass and those 12 months are up.
