The third version of Grand Theft Auto V for Xbox launches this Tuesday, March 15th, this time targeted specifically at Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and we've been lucky enough to go hands-on with it over the past few hours.
So, let's get down the burning question... what does it look like? There are three performance modes you can choose from on Xbox Series X in the form of Fidelity (native 4K, 30fps), Performance RT (upscaled 4K, 60fps), and Performance (upscaled 4K, 60fps), and we've picked out a few random shots from Fidelity mode specifically below.
We'll have more impressions to share shortly (update: now live!), but for now, here are some (mostly) Fidelity screenshots. If you're wondering about the two Performance modes, they actually look very similar to this as well.

I will just stick with the xbox one version to be honest.
It basically looks very similar to the last gen version.
Seen a few videos on YouTube, and in all honesty looks no difference. Obviously some things need to be seen without compression, so I will check it out on the PS5, but I'm not holding my breath.
It’s so hard to tell.
Until you see it on a nice 4K say 65” screen straight from your series x running and in motion.
@Dezzy70 Yeah, very true.
So, am I understanding that lacks ray tracing and the only way to get it performance RT?
Because if those screenshots have raytracing enabled then it is isn't proper implementation, if even a single bounce. Like how Cyberpunk 2077's ray tracking mode on consoles only traces shadows.
I watched someone stream live the PS5 version earlier on YouTube (search for SKizzleAXE) and tbh apart from being 60fps it only looked marginally better. Ironically, at the start of his stream (whilst he was waiting for the game to unlock) he was showing gameplay from the PC version which looks way better. Why couldn’t Rockstar do this on PS5/Series consoles? 🙄
That's how I remember the 360 version looking
It looks nice, but I'm not going to double dip for it. Still if you've somehow never played this game, but want to then it looks like the best version to get.
Looking forward to watching the eventual Digital Foundry breakdown (probably) next week though to see what's changed.
Fidelity mode? This game came out on the 360…there really shouldn’t need to be any ‘modes’…it should just run and look the best as standard.
I never bought the last gen version so looking forward to playing it again - it'll be a decent upgrade from the PS3 version for sure, and I never tried online. Pleased with the price too, I was expecting a full price release. Will be cashing in my MS reward points to grab it tomorrow!
It cost me £8.75.im pretty sure ill get my monies worth. xD
It cost me £8.75. It’s worth that just to save me routing the disc out to play it!!! Not played since PS3 version.
@themightyant because it is this should've been a free update years ago when the one X & PS4 pro came out
I can confirm that the ray-tracing is non existent in Performance RT mode so that will definitely need patched. I was initially going to always play in Performance RT mode but for now I may as well just play in just Performance mode.
Also is the Karin S95 still showing as full price to anybody else despite getting a message to claim it for free from Southern SanAndreas SuperAutos?
