Since Xbox announced its intention to buy Activision Blizzard, a lot has been said about Call of Duty and its hectic release schedule. Last year's game, Vanguard, fell below expectations for the publisher, and reports are now surfacing that the upcoming CoD game for 2023 might be delayed.
With that in mind, would you be happy to see Call of Duty skip a year? When reports surfaced last month that CoD may ditch annual releases following the Xbox takeover, we expressed why that might be a good idea.
Of course, there's still the flip side of this. Millions of players enjoy CoD every year, and they'll probably be pretty disappointed to see a gap in releases.

Even if it skips the next 5 years I'd be happy.
I would. It’s a tired formula. I’m not really sure what they can do with it at this point if they’re going to keep it ‘boots on the ground’
Maybe bring back a sp that can be played in co op throughout too - spec ops was always fun.
Or, maybe the next sp they bring out can actually allow us to play it without needing war zone installed, and doesn’t delete itself whenever warzone gets an update. That would be pretty cool.
I'd be happy if a call of duty game never releases again.
Just imagine the new games these developers could make instead
I would like COD to skip 50 years.
How about that?
As long as they keep updating COD 2022 which is going to be modern warfare (my favorite of the COD installments) I’m cool.
Yes, Call Of Duty has become a copy n paste game for years now.. They should ditch annual releases all together..
Definitely needs a few years off. They`ve done the past, present and future and it`s basically all rinse and repeat.
Surprised they have never done a Vietnam campaign, but then again you`d just be playing as a Yank being shot and bombed by other Yanks.
Yea I can live without a new CoD for one year. In fact I'd be happier with a 2 years cycle.
I skip it every year…….. absolute cr@p
Tbh I couldn’t give a....
I'd just like them to add the multiplayer to the mw2 remaster I think they finished it but didn't include it because they didn't want to split up the player base
The last CoD I played was MW way back when and the remastered version on PS4. Nothing beyond that really interested me. Also, many CoD games are absolute space hogs
As long as they continue to support and fix Vanguard I am OK with them skipping next year. I won't be playing Modern Warfare II since Modern Warfare 2019 ruined CoD. But as long as they continue support for Vanguard I will be fine.
I stopped buying CoD a few years back and haven't played a CoD game (inc Warzone) for years either.
We all know the reason that CoD was an 'Annual' release for Activision and that was purely financial. The fact that CoD was Activisions biggest selling game every year and scared they would miss the most 'lucrative' release window is why more an more studio's became involved in CoD. First Treyarch because Infinity Ward needed an 'extra' year for the 360 era with CoD4, then during the XB1 era, they needed more time so Sledgehammer was needed. When Crash, Spyro, Tony Hawkes etc don't sell 'enough' to offset the 'loss' of CoD money (if they miss the year or even delay the game to after Christmas and miss the holiday season), then those studio's also got pulled in to ensuring CoD releases on time and any 'issues' can be sorted after launch...
Its basically 'reskinned' year after year just to 'sell' you the same game - just a different 'era' with a 'few' newly designed maps, some 'reskinned' maps (or at least a similar template). The only thing that does change is the Campaign.
I wouldn't be surprised if CoD 'online' goes Free to Play - maybe even integrated more into Warzone so everyone is on the 'same' generation and has access to all the same maps, modes etc. Every year a 'new' CoD releases is a new 'split' of the Community. You have those players that bought the 'new' game split from all those on the older game(s) - just like DLC splits the community or platform 'perks' (earlier access/timed exclusivity) splits the community too.
I'd be happy with CoD Online going Free to Play as EVERYONE, regardless of budgets, platform preference etc all have the latest edition, the same maps, same weapons, same game modes etc - not a split community. Whether they 'opt' to make CoD Single Player campaigns at all, periodically or even at regular intervals (Annual, Biennial, Triennial...), I don't care. As long as ALL the Studio's are involved in making their own games instead of ALL working on 'one', then we should have a LOT more variety and creativity within those games. They'll only make a Campaign if they want or have a creative idea that would benefit from the CoD name. The rest of the time, as long as the CoD Online Community are still being catered to with new regular content drops, new seasons etc to keep them happy, those studio's can create whatever games they want - their own new IP's or new games from any of the growing portfolio of IP's MS now own - not just CoD!
I’m fine either way. I was dumb enough to purchase a lot of yearly CoD titles, and play like two weeks worth of multiplayer, and drop them to play F2P Warzone for long enough anyway. I’m giving Activision a second chance because of the buyout anyway.
Would love to read some of the posts from the people saying they are not happy (3% as of this writing.)
For sure! Take a year off. I don’t think it will hurt.
@UltimateOtaku91 totally agree! I would be for first person games in general to decline as we go forward. Xbox has been saturated with them since the beginning!
I'd happily buy a zombies standalone, but after that I would never purchase a game with a name called call of duty ever again.
Keep Warzone for the CoD multiplayer crowd (CoD’s bread and butter, really).
Otherwise, ditch everything else and let these developers make different games. Maybe..you know…experiment with new ideas?
@Tharsman it's 4% as of writing, and I too would want a response out of them.
I hope that when Microsoft's acquisition is completed they'll move away from the yearly CoD release.
@Rural-Bandit Where's the connection with controllers?
I just can't.
@Rural-Bandit I know haha.
If each studio that was going to make COD makes a new IP, we would have like 7 new completely new games.
So...
skip cod for 50 years please.
I'm not bothered. I haven't played one since Infinite Warfare, and even then I hadn't played any of the previous ones since Modern Warfare 2 (the first one) and only got it as it was super cheap second hand, and worth a go.
The move of focus to multiplayer meant it wasn't worth my while to buy an expensive title for a short campaign.
I haven't played a COD game since the 360. I'm sure they're fun for MP but I only play SP games generally and the COD campaigns were very repetitive back then. The last COD SP campaign that interested me was the space-based one but I never got around to buying it. After that they've gone back to boring "realistic" combat, which doesn't really interest me.
As long as the one I get to play for 2 years is an Infinity Ward CoD it should be fine. If it was Black Ops or anything else I would be disappointed but would keep playing MW2019
