A few days ago, Rare announced that it would be be laying out its 2022 plans via livestream. Well, that stream has come and gone, and this year sounds like a big one for Sea of Thieves. If you're after more story-based content from Rare's pirate adventure, you're in luck.
Adventures are coming, new monthly story events that take around two weeks to unfold. They'll be accompanied by "ongoing cinematic lore trailers", and it sounds like Rare is definitely trying to appeal to players who want a little more from Sea of Thieves' world and its characters. Here's the first trailer:
The other core pillar for the next year of Sea of Thieves, aside from its seasons, are Mysteries. These sound more like what we've already seen from SoT, where players will have to work together to uncover more emergent stories. Rare is trying something a little different here too though...
Clues as to how to solve these Mysteries will be released in-game, and out of the game, so you'll have to keep an eye on Sea of Thieves' socials to properly follow them. The first one will involve "players solving the murder of a well-known character in Sea of Thieves". Hmmm, very mysterious.

It sounds interesting and the video looked good. I was just never able to get into Sea of Thieves. I can give it another go and see if it sticks this time, from those who play this game regularly, I hear how awesome the game is. Maybe I just wasn’t fair with it? Maybe I needed to give it more time? I always loved Rare’s games in the past. I think I was looking for something more like a single player from them.
@EvilSilentFrame I'd try the Pirates of the Caribbean content. All of that is single player and helps get the hang of some things. Also the Maiden Voyage. I love the game but it's better with friends. If you are going to solo it's definitely still fun you just have to limit your approach and haul.
They have a great sailing system but the game is structured around repeated A to B side-missions and during these missions, the on foot combat, the puzzles and interaction with the environment is very poor. The world is barren with very little narrative or lore, the menus are overly complicated as is the process of starting a mission. Progression is slow and the game sticks a store-front interface in front of you in which you can spend real money on cosmetics. No update has addressed these issues.
I get this game isn't everyone's cup of tea, but the game still suffers from the same problem it always has. Which his trying to peacefully do PvE story quests and some rando ganks and spawn traps you.
I would love to try it out but sounds like playing solo is not easy.
I wish it had PvE only servers.
Why are they still trying to make this game a thing?
@Halucigens thank you, I will look into those. Maybe the reason I wasn’t too fond of it was because I played it solo. That’s how I play most of my games. Most of my friends either don’t play games or are into different games than I am.
@EvilSilentFrame yeah I started solo as well. It’s just a great game to get lost into. There’s ways to maximize but just take it at your own pace and let the randomness feel like a story. I’ve had hours where I just fished and didn’t see anyone. I’ve convinced a few of my friend to try it and they absolutely love it. You will lose loot to other pirates, storms, skelly boats, you crashing into stuff and many other ways. Enjoy!
