Remember this, COD fans? All the way back in October of 2020, we reported that Black Ops Cold War would be getting a PlayStation exclusive 'Zombies Onslaught' mode, but now that timed exclusivity period has finally expired.
It means that as of yesterday's November 2nd update, Zombies Onslaught is available to play on Xbox consoles - a 2-player co-operative experience in which your goal is to fight off waves of increasingly difficult zombies.
Warning. Containment Breach. Dark Aether anomalies have infested familiar locations across the globe with hordes of the undead in an all new Zombies experience – Onslaught.
This week's release of Call of Duty: Vanguard will also be sporting PlayStation exclusive perks, but fortunately it looks like there won't be any game modes or major content (at least at launch) that will be restricted to a single platform.
So then, while we might be a year late to the party, Zombies Onslaught has finally arrived on Xbox. It's about time!
Happy about this? What are your thoughts on timed exclusive content for COD? Let us know below.

I get marketing deals will be marketing deals, but this was a really grimey one.
Back on the 360 when MS had the deal it meant that DLC maps were available on the PS3 a month later. This is a whole game mode and for a year. I understand that they don't sell DLC maps now and have to offer something as a sweetner, but a game mode? And for a year?
Not cool Sony/Activision.
@JetmanUK Another reason to be glad MS acquired Bethesda before Sony could clamp down on it 😀
@FriendlyOctopus 🤣 True!
Doesnt really matter as the new call of duty is out now, should of just made the mode fully exclusive instead
A bit too late with Vanguard, Halo and Battlefield coming out here soon, does anyone care.
Seriously, what is the point? The new game is about to launch and people will stop playing the previous one (if they haven't already). This is why I hate this kind of practice, an entire segment of the game was hived off to Xbox players, and yet they were charged exactly the same in order to play the game. It is a malevolent practice that shouldn't be permitted...
Its so disappointing how they do this constantly to xbox players and when xbox does it all hell breaks loose.
Time to acquire Activision Blizzard.
@tigersden98 That's because the Sony fanbase tends to be very loud and divisive. The Xbox fanbase has always been a lot more relaxed. I know things were different in the 360/PS3 era, but that might as well be ancient history these days.
@tigersden98 Agreed, 100%.
@JetmanUK tomb raider , dead rising , GTA IV expansions , pubg...
@Would_you_kindly Thanks for the list. Haha
I didn't actually say that MS never do deals if that is what your comment was suggesting.
They are however very much less active in this area than Sony.
My thought on the games you mentioned:
PUBG, MS helped a very inexperienced dev team with the game, also Sony don't have an early access program and this game was early early access, I know, I played days of if with friends from the very start. It was rough! Haha.
But yeah, Sony could not have had the game at the same time due to their policies.
They did however get the benefits of MS helping polish the game whilst it was 'exclusive', they never saw the rough 10fps performance that the Xbox had in their version. I still had a lot of fun with this game.
Tomb Raider - I think this deal was done to help MS get something out there that they didn't have in their internal studios, a year deal. Not a fan of these deals. Can't remember many (any?) deals like this since
Dead Rising (3 and 4?) - I think this was marketing and a funding of the project deal. Did 3 and 4 make it the PS4? I think 3 maybe did? Not sure.
GTA IV - I really don't remember this, this was very much of the era when MS were active with deals though for sure. These days are looooong gone. What was the deal?
But yeah, my comment was not on which corporation has which deals and the various details of them, it was on COD and how the Sony deal is much more harmful than the old deal under MS. I'm sure no-one would disagree with that.
I's also sure that no one would disagree that MS are much less active in these practices than Sony too.
I'm not a fan of anyone doing these deals even though I am immune to them, I play on all formats. Its crummy for many.
The last Call of Duty I bought was Modern Warfare. Rented Modern Warfare 2. Can say this really bothers me one way or the other TBH
Wow! Just in time for Vanguard! How convenient 90% of the player base on Xbox will never try it.
@Royalblues reason i didnt and wont be buy either cod or battlefield this year was Infinite
@JetmanUK all the dead risings are on PS4 except 3 that one never got ported & the GTA IV dlc was a year exclusive
I'm pleased to say that Vanguard does not include an exclusive game mode.
Here's what I found on what PS got for their exclusives this year:
After keeping specifics under wraps for months, Activision recently detailed how Vanguard will dish out PlayStation exclusives, starting with five extra tier skips included with the battle pass bundle. PlayStation players will also receive 25% more weapon XP when playing in parties, and both PS4 and PS5 will apparently receive exclusive 24-hour double XP events each month.
Other PlayStation-exclusive trinkets include two additional loadout slots plus a free in-game bundle for Season 1 of Vanguard and Warzone with a new Operator skin, a weapon blueprint, and other goodies. Future seasons will come with their free bundles.
I'm 100% ok with this.
