It was bound to happen eventually, but we didn't expect it an entire month before launch!
Somehow, this person has already managed to unbox an Xbox Series X retail unit, and the video gives us a good look at the elaborate and well-designed packaging inside the box (thanks Video Games Chronicle).
We haven't embedded it in this article - we're assuming Microsoft will swoop to remove this as soon as possible - but you can see a brief clip of it in the tweet from Windows Central's Tom Warren below:
The console itself looks to be really nicely packaged with a 'Power Your Dreams' banner wrapped around it, while the controller and cables are separated in bespoke compartments.
It's a shame that it had to leak this way, but our hype levels just increased even further!
Liking the look of the packaging for the Xbox Series X? Let us know in the comments.

Man seeing one opened up is exciting! I still can’t decide whether to keep my S pre-order or cancel it and wait a few months for the X to come back into stock. I have a nice mid grade 4K 120z Samsung TV, though it’s not hdmi 2.1. Maybe I’ll just keep the S and upgrade later 🤔
I love to have Xbox Series S but I will get Xbox Series X for 2 main reasons. Digital Downloads from Game Pass and second reason is Discs can be trade for other and newer games and it will save a lot of money.
@mehrannaseer brilliant comments and people forget when you drop £70 on a digital game it’s worthless to anyone else, once you’ve finished it.
Example is Godfall, you buy Physical edition and after a month trade in for £30-£40, putting towards another game. On Digital, this simply doesn’t work
@thejameswhogames @mehrannaseer Wise Words. I would benefit from your patience. If I do the upgrade route, I’ll probably loose 100-150$ in the process. So I have to decide if it’s worth it to play a few months earlier. Might just be to get through the quarantine Winter, for me at least.
That's an awsome unboxing..
@thejameswhogames
Digital Foundry have confirmed that with Dirt 5 at least, if you are using a HDMI 2.0 TV that supports 120Hz at 1080p or 1440p, you can set the console to that particular setting in the menu, and you can still gain access to Dirt 5's 120 FPS mode.
The full video shows the HDMI lead,
Looks good and long for my set up.
I actually wished I hadn't clicked on that
1) That's a great unboxing experience
2) It's nice to have some surprises on the day
3) Now I want one TODAY.
It's going to be a long month
Xbox Series S will be a great console but if you buy the games like Watch Dogs, Valhalla, cyberpunk and Call Of Duty, Digitally you will spending more money and they won't be returnable. So save your money and sell the games you don't want it and invest it in your XBOX Series X Console.
Xbox Series S is cheaper but future run it will cost you then Series X.
You don't have to get your PS5 or Xbox Series on lunch day. There are people who buying Xbox s and Ps4 Pro now.
I won't watch unboxing just here for comments. Re game performance 60 is fine after so many 30 titles and 120 will be with concessions anyway I have LGB9 55 but 60 will do for me I would prefer more effects and better textures and LOD. Enjoy your Xbox Series consoles guys.
I started to watch it then changed my mind. I'll we with for mine to come.
@themightyant I clicked on it and noped out before it actually started playing for the same reason Sony left a few TOO many surprises for launch day, but I don't want every surprise down to unboxing to be spoiled, either.
@thejameswhogames Yeah HDMI 2.0 can do 144fps at SDR.
Not like a whole lot of us have HDR TVs/Monitors just yet anyway lolz. I'd take 120fps over HDR anyday.
@Nalverus
Will be interesting as to what games can offer 120FPS modes.
For example, I wonder if Halo Infinite for multiplayer could offer a 1080p 120FPS mode? Would be very interesting.
