Avowed is the first Xbox first-party game of 2025, and we're kicking things off in a big way! This is an epic fantasy RPG from the geniuses at Obsidian, evidenced by our "Great" 8/10 review that we published here at Pure Xbox recently.
As is often the case with Xbox first-party titles, we're getting both an early access release and a general Xbox Game Pass / PC Game Pass release, so we thought we'd break down all the details you need to know ahead of launch. The early access release is already live, while the standard version is set to launch very soon indeed.
Below, you'll find all the Avowed release dates and release times you need to be aware of, as well as the cheapest way to get early access and a few other bits of key information.
So, here's everything you need to know about the Avowed launch on Xbox and PC:
Avowed Release Date On Xbox Game Pass
Avowed's release date on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass is February 18th, 2025.
Avowed Release Time On Xbox Game Pass
Avowed's release time on Xbox Game Pass is 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm GMT on February 18th.
You can see a full list of times for each region in the image below:

Avowed Premium Upgrade: The Cheapest Way To Get Early Access
If you're looking for the cheapest way to play Avowed in early access, the Premium Upgrade is the way to go. This is intended for Game Pass Ultimate / PC Game Pass members as it doesn't include the full game itself (so you'll need to remain subscribed post-launch), and it's available for £17.99 / $22.49 on the Microsoft Store.
Obviously if you can wait a little longer until February 18th, you won't need to pay for Avowed's early access if you're already an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass member. The choice is up to you!
Avowed Preload For Xbox & PC
Avowed is available to preload right now on Xbox if you've either bought the game or you're an Xbox Game Pass member. It's no longer just a placeholder (300MB) file either - it's now changed to the full preload so you can download the entire game ahead of launch. As long as there's not a day one patch, you'll be ready to go on release day!
Avowed Download Size For Xbox & PC
Avowed's download size is 74.8GB on Xbox and 72GB on PC. There should be minimal difference between the standard version and the Premium Edition, as the latter only contains things like skins and a digital artbook.
Excited to try Avowed on Xbox Game Pass? Come let us know in the comments!

Excited for this one! I picked the early access as I have been looking forward to this one for a while now.
@Darylb88 My only wish was 60fps (or up to) and was granted! 😊
Looking forward to the game!
Now about early access, so if you have GPU you need to pay for premium upgrade which doesnt get you the game just the early access and then you need to rent the game when ever you want to play it. What if its removed from GP? Seems really stupid imo, but people are free to do as they please
@mac_da_man you don’t need to rent it whenever you want to play it, you also have the option of buying it.
It is also extremely unlikely to leave Gamepass as it’s a first party non-licensed XGS game and IP.
Looking forward to playing this Day 6 on Gamepass on PC
Can't wait. Really looking forward to this, and seems the devs have made massive fixes based on fan feedback.
Side note: @FraserG is there a known embargo date?
I’m definitely in at 60fps XSX.
Though I have GPU anyway.
@Kaloudz
It think the review embargo is the 13/2/25 same as earlier access date.
@Kaloudz Yeah, it's been shared by a few people on social media that the embargo is February 13th at 9am ET / 2pm GMT.
@K1LLEGAL Yeah, my thought was if you have GPU and dont buy the game but get the early access. If it never leaves GPU then that makes it a bit better.
@mac_da_man Early access charges are the biggest joke of the generation and a con to boot. 5 Days makes no difference in terms of actual release, so it should be play it Day 6 on GPU**
**Day 1 available with a £20 fee
@Ilyn well people can do what they want with their money but yes, it seems like a bad idea from a consumer standpoint.
If folks want early access its up to them its their money to spend as they wish. Not going to be salty about something that is entirely optional with nothing lost by waiting a few days.
With 60 fps confirmed I have preordered the standard edition & I am looking forward to this a lot as i enjoyed both of the previous Pillars of Eternity games.
@FraserG Y’know, with the review embargo being so out there, it’s such positive PR for Avowed in my opinion. I think we’re at a point where devs should hype up embargo’s rather than hide them if they want to hype their projects. Hope it’s out there because Obsidian is confident rather than because of leakers!
@FraserG @OldGamer999 Thanks guys. Looking forward to seeing how it fares.
@mac_da_man @Ilyn I don't see the problem. Day one means the day it globally releases. Paying to play early is no different to paying to watch a movie at the cinema before you're able to buy it on VoD / DVD.
Would it really ruffle your feathers that much if it was worded the way you prefer it to be worded? In fact, would it really make any difference whatsoever? Fact remains is that you can play it (like any first party game) rather than buy it at £70 a whack.
Paying for early access is a tool that's been used in the market for years. This ain't a new thing.
Better six days later on the subscription service compared to the premium edition that not just includes the early access but extra content, the soundtrack and a digital book than years later or never like on PS Plus. Besides, this is a great way for developers to get extra support by those who choose to do so. Gamers have three choices: play at no additional cost on Game Pass Ultimate, buy the premium edition or buy the regular edition. It's Play Anywhere on top of that (like all Xbox Game Studios releases). No problem here.
@somnambulance Let's hope so! 🤞
@RiverGenie - well said. Early access isn’t for me but fine for those that want to pay for it.
@FraserG I would imagine you probably already know the truth. 😉
At least I hope so! I like reading your team’s reviews!
@Isolte I just play games and I can only control what I do with regards to them. If a game does something I don't agree with I simply don't buy or play it and go play something else instead (as i was going to do with Avowed until they confirmed 60 fps.)
My actual worries are about things way more life changing than games. I play games to distract from those worries, fuel my imagination & simply to have fun.
Its not my job to hold the gaming industry accountable for everything they do nor police other peoples spending habits.
Removed - trolling/baiting
@Isolte Exactly this, its the precedent behind the behaviour. If it was 1 month early, with limited access for testing at a reduced price then thats okay. This 5 day EA fomo however is no different than microtransactions, looot boxes or any other shady practice to just designed to get more money out of consumers.
If GTA6 decided to launch at £100 for the standard edition and have microtransactions galore in the store for skins and vehicles it would still sell loads. People can choose how they spend their money, but that in no way means we shouldn't also be calling out companies for bad practices.
@Banjo- Yeah I'm happy that this one has that option. I think when they say up to 60 frames it's typically as there is the 30,40 and 60 option rather than 50-60fps. The resolution and some graphical settings might be dropped though but that's okay.
@Isolte I mean Microsoft is a business so of course they will do things to driver consumer spend. If this early access technique had not been financially successful they would have dropped it like a stone. I purchased the premium edition because I wanted the additional bits that come with the game alongside the early access. For those who don't want to pay as much, they can get the game a few days later alongside the other 300 odd titles on GP. Ultimately it's the individuals choice regardless of any arguments either way and we can't control that.
@Isolte sigh .... I repeat Its not my job nor is it any part of my hobby to hold the gaming industry accountable for everything they do nor police other peoples spending habits.
If you want to take on the gaming industry, be a consumer champion or just be judgemental of others then have at it that's your choice to make.
I do not and will just continue to play the games that look fun to me or ignore those that don't, that's my choice. Look to save time I am just going to agree to disagree with you & get back to the much more important task of killing digital nazis in Sniper Elite: Resistance
@Darylb88 I agree. I pre-order some digital editions, even when there is no early access, because of the extra content and to support the developer. If I had known that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was so good, I would have pre-ordered the premium edition, but what I'll do now is buy the DLC when is released. Having options is good and on Xbox you can even play on Game Pass and buy the upgrade separately, like I did with Forza Horizon 4. I was even given the game for free when it was delisted because of the limited rights to include real cars.
I’m probably going to get the premium upgrade (yeah I know, I’m part of the problem 😂) simply because I have 3 days off work on the weekend following the early access release.
I’ll skip paying the extra money and happily wait for it to arrive on the 18th
Not sure this is gonna be one for me but I hope it turns out well for all the folks looking forward to it!
Let's hope it's good. I'll check it out, but not totally convinced yet.
I've been looking forward to this - Count Dooku
The only lame part with the physical is that it's a code. Let me has my disc drive 😭 I understand how digital on a disc vs hard drive works but c'mon, even the Witcher 3 got thrown in a Switch cartridge. Gimme my disc. It's probably because of their digital only consoles so if grandma and grandpa mess up there are no returns
Bought the upgrade. Looking forward to this one since the reveal years ago.
The premium upgrade is such a scam, 5 days early access and a few companion skins? Compare this to starfield where you got an expansion, early access, credits and skins.
I guess avowed won't be getting any post release dlc eventhough pillar's of eternity did.
Hopefully it's good looks promising!
Obsidian’s pedigree with day one on GamePass are a match made in heaven for me. Can’t wait to play this!😀
@Nightcrawler71
I’m probably going to get the premium upgrade (yeah I know, I’m part of the problem 😂
Please, please don’t be part of the problem by spending your own money as you see fit. You should just get outraged and be done with it all!! 😅😉..
I could understand the £20 price point (or £18 if you have GPU) if there was an expansion pass included but to only include 2 skins and a digital art book/soundtrack? Behave 😂
It’s obvious this is just a cash grab aimed at people who can’t wait an extra 5 days even though we’ve been waiting over 4 years.
How is this game almost here and we've seen very little footage of it. I feel like it's going to be a huge bomb
Will be playing it Day 6
I couldn't help myself. I had to get the physical Premium Edition. Can't wait to play it on the 13th!
devs already told us that game is full of bugs
without gamepass it would be concord all over again
Just over 24 hours until EA and still no pre load.
I bought the game, the premium edition, if I read correctly I can play tomorrow, I already told my wife and children not to disturb me tomorrow, I also have the weekend since now and I'm really curious
Ohhhhhhhhh not long!
PSA: If you have the premium steelbook ed you can't redeem the code until launch time. I got this Confirmed by MS.
Guide has been updated slightly to align with the Xbox Game Pass release on February 18th. Not long to go now!
@mac_da_man by the time it leaves Game Pass, most people will have either finished it or bought it
This one is going to have to be on the back burner...as I have barely broke the surface of Kingdom come 2....I hope to still play this...one day
It'll be a couple weeks before I dive in. Need to finish visions of mana, and I want to finally try Alone in the Dark. Thankfully that's a short one. I just can't go into another ARPG right after visions.
Have become increasingly intrigued about this one since release. So many Marmite reviews and commentaries, eg
And the list goes on.
I’ve pre-installed it so I’ll give it a go later. Only way to know is to play it - and that’s what GPU is for.
This is the first time I've played a game Day 1 on GamePass and I'm baffled that it's advertised as releasing today but not until 6/7pm for those of us in European time zones.
