We're fast approaching the Xbox Game Pass launch for Avowed, and about a week out from that release, the Obsidian team has set preloads live for its upcoming RPG on Xbox and PC.
Heading to Game Pass on February 18, Avowed is now available to download - coming in at roughly 74.8GB on Xbox Series X. Over on PC, preloads are also ready to go - the game clocks in at roughly 72GB on that platform.
This comes shortly after more news about console performance details for the upcoming Obsidian RPG. The Xbox developer has confirmed that there are three options in total on Series X: Quality at 30FPS, Performance at up to 60FPS, and a Balanced 40FPS mode for those with 120Hz displays.
If you're a Game Pass member and want to get Avowed installed and ready to go before launch, you can simply search for the game on your Xbox console, find the standard edition, and hit install. Alternatively, you can search for Avowed in the Xbox mobile app and download the game to your linked console.
As we mentioned earlier, Avowed officially launches on Feb. 18th, but there's also an early access option if you're super keen to go hands on with the game ASAP. For all of the details on early access and what's included in that edition, check out our full release guide for Avowed down below.

No download for me at 6am EST
I'll be waiting until Feb 18th for Game Pass launch, but man, I cannot wait to get hands on with this. It looks amazing and Obsidian rarely miss the mark!!
I'm actually starting to get a bit hyped for this now hopefully it's good!
I'll just be waiting for the gamepass not bothered by early access 💆
Looking forward to the pure Xbox review👏
Time for another purge of unwanted games to clear up some storage space.
Nothing showing for me at noon UK time. Does it tend to vary when preloads become available for people?
Looking forward to reading the reviews. I’m expecting 8’s, developer has admitted there’s some jank. But as long as it’s released in a good state I’m looking forward to jumping in.
Tide me over till wilds drops
I've not been too impressed by the pre-download service. Some games like Stalker 2 gave a massive download in advance, then made us download an equally massive update... what was the point? Others even though I downloaded the pre-download haven't downloaded the rest of the game by the time I go to fire it up. It's definitely an area that needs some improvement. But i'll try it again.
It's only February and I'm already falling behind! Started Indiana Jones last month and still not finished it. Played a couple of hours of Eternal Strands. Now this is nearly released and I have still to even start up sniper elite.

Exactly why I don't download (in most cases) until launch day 😅 nowt worse than downloading a game for the night of release, only to sit down and be told to wait 2 hours for an update to finish.
@Kaloudz At this point I generally have more faith in my ability to remember to turn the console on earlier in the day and manually start an update than I do in the pre-download service which in my experience doesn't always work as intended.
@Nexozi I used to feel like this, but at some point you have to accept this is an impossible task that requires a mindset change. I suspect you don't download Netflix or Spotify and think I have to watch/listen to everything I can on it, similar with Game Pass. There's only so many hours...
@themightyant people complain when devs dont update stuff and even more confusing to me when they do updates.
In Stalker 2's case would you rather have played the version that PureXbox reviewed with all the issues they highlighted or the day 1 version were many of those issues just didn't exist. Though it still had problems without that download it would have been a lot worse.
I wouldn't be a game dev folk just complain no matter what you do.
@RiverGenie You missed the point. Of course we are happy the game updated and we got to play a less buggy version day 1 - though it still very buggy in my experience - but what is the point of having a pre-load for around 150GB in the case of Stalker 2 and then getting us to download another almost 150GB a few days later overwriting the whole file? (I forget the exact size of the second update but it was similar in size)
But more importantly the Xbox pre-load / update system didn't work properly. I had pre-loaded the 150GB specifically so that I could play the game immediately on release, that's the point of it right? But instead when I tried to play it said I had to download another 150GB.
What is the point of the pre-load then?
So tempted to get the early access for £17.99 with my GPU.
Must resist 🤣
Honestly if deluxe edition had some actual content (like dlc/expansion/season pass) i would pre-order. But now its paying $30 just to beat FOMO and get 2 skins so nah.
Really interested in the game though, so playing day 1 (5) with GP
Oh good, I'll get this pre downloaded and hope there is not a massive update before Day 5, when us lowly subscribers get to play.
I hope this is truly special an not jank, as I've waited so long for it...
Just for fun, I'm going to predict a Metacritic of 85. Most of Obsidian's games land in the 80s and, just from what I've seen, it seems like an overall quality experience. We'll see.
Glad that we had KCD2, so too busy to even think of paying for that “early access.crap”
Still no pre load at 636pm EST
@weaponx69 Same nothing here yet. I think the Xbox servers must be having a technical issue on console because it looks like the 74GB file is there but it just won't push through and keeps installing the 300mb placeholder. I have tried installing from my phone/ uninstalling/reinstalling and restarting my Xbox but to no avail.
As we mentioned earlier, Avowed officially launches on Feb. 18th, but there's also an early access option if you're super keen to go hands on with the game ASAP
Oh I see, so that's how it works. There's an official release date for the game, with an option to play it early if folk decide to do so.... Incredibly this seem a hard concept to grasp for some people (day 5-6 blah, blah, blah)😅.
@Darylb88 yeah I’m having the same issue. Won’t download the full 74gb, just the 300mb placeholder. Hope they fix this soon.
Never understood why folks preload a week in advance. I get it when someone has a slow connection speed but for others, couldn't you do it the day before and use the storage for something else you can play in the meantime?
@Nightcrawler71 I hope so too! My internet isn't super fast and launch is 6pm UK time tomorrow
@Darylb88 still not downloading for me 🙄 sort it out Microsoft, I wanna be playing this tomorrow night!
@Nightcrawler71 I hope they do. It's not ideal for those with the slower internet.
Damn thing won’t download. It keeps stopping and crashing.
@Darylb88 It’s finally downloading the full 75gb file! 🙂
@Nightcrawler71 Same here! Glad it finally worked! Looking forward to tomorrow!
