@ralphdibny Yep. I will start so many other games play them for a bit then due to something, either work, other games or life in general I don't get back to them for awhile. When I do get back to the game I forget what I was doing and more often then not I have to start over. With the Forza Horizon games it doesn't matter how long its been since I played last I am able to get into it fairly quickly and find something to do without trying to remember what I was doing months ago.

Well.went into Gamestop.today to check out what they had ended up walking out with Forza Horizon 2. I know I can't get the DLC anymore but for $10 I figured why not.

So I finished the story part of Forza Horizon 3 and won the last showcase event. I am not sure if it was me but I thought the final showcase was alot easier then some of the other one, still though it was pretty fun. Not yet read to say goodbye to Australia yet as there is alot I want to do stjll.

@Tasuki nice one!

I honestly can't tell when I'm finished on these games. I thought I had finished Horizon 4 over a year ago but when I randomly played it a few months ago, loads of new story missions had opened up so I guess I hadn't even scratched the surface! 😅

I think when I get to the point that I actually want to wrap things up, I might look up a checklist or something to see what else there is to do in the game. Otherwise I'll just stick to playing it here and there when there are lulls in my other gaming plans

@ralphdibny That's how I feel with 3 right now, lol. I want to move on but there is alot I still want to do it feels that I barely scratched the surface myself.

I've been playing some Horizon 4. Mainly just teeing up some achievements so I can log on and do them quickly if I have a busy day and need something easy to get 50 Reward points.

I think I've only got one or two storylines left that I haven't started and I think I've reached level 10 in most of these race categories.

Except in Street Scene/LaRacer. For some reason, I find this really difficult and I'm only at like level 2 for it or something. I just have no idea what I'm doing in street scene, I don't know what the best car to pick is and I consistently come last place.

@ralphdibny Street Scene is my worst event by far; I've lost count how many times I've gone to overtake someone only to be wiped out by oncoming traffic.

From memory I don't think the Street Scene events are restricted by type, so you can have big off-road cars alongside road cars alongside classic rally as long as they are the same Class. As they are road races, I tend to go for modern road cars as they'll likely be better all round than the equivalent class of rally/retro/off road etc. I generally pick AWD vehicles too as they generally handle better and I normally don't use S1 or S2 class on Street scene as at those speeds dodging the oncoming traffic can be really difficult. Also.... the rewind button

ralphdibny

@dmcc0 I don't think it's as fun as the other races really. My favourite race style is cross country for sure. I love the bonkers routes that those tracks take!

I've just sorta realised that about the car restrictions on street scene. I think I got confused because I was doing a LaRacer race which does restrict your car choice. On the normal ones I'm just using the Jeep Trailcat now because I find it easy to control. Doing these races also knocked down my Drivatar difficulty to inexperienced. Having beat a few in first place it's now bumped me back up to average which is where I'm comfortable for most of the game (but now I'm losing a lot in the streetscene).

I sort of wish the game would give you the option to filter "recommended" cars for individual events. It's a bit overwhelming and I normally just end up using the Trailcat for most things anyway.

But yeah, feels kinda rubbish to either "complete" the race but not be 1st place, or to come first place on anything lower than average difficulty. I'm not so fussed about the rewind, I don't see it as a cheat or anything because it's baked into the design of the game. I often rewind when I get overtaken and then block off the overtaking car!

@ralphdibny The other race types just default to whatever you happen to be driving at time I think, so you can drive the Trailcat on a road race or whatever and it will just put you up against similar stuff. Street scene is the only one that doesn't as story-wise it's outside of the main Horizon Festival. The seasonal races tend to be the ones that make you drive a specific car.

I usually just keep a few different types as favourites; the Trailcat happens to be my go-to for off-road as well and my original Audi TT has been pretty solid so use that a fair bit too. At this point I've got more cars than I know what to do with really and probably dozens that I've never even driven yet. I think I'm done with new races on the main game now, although I've still got the job missions and the top gear story etc to finish up.

My daughter loves this game too so she bought the DLC pack last time it was on sale. I've done a fair bit of the LEGO expansion and still haven't even started the Fortune Island expansion so still got a load of content to keep me going. Oh, and after she started 4 she asked if we could get the others too - managed to get a download code for 3 a while back so still to start that too!

dmcc0

Tasuki

@dmcc0 LOL that's what happened to me. I played 3 and had to get the others as well. I found out at some point I got the first game (I think it was GwG ) and of course 4 is on Gamepass. I happened to come across a copy of 2 a few weeks ago at a Gamestop so I snagged it. Unfortunately I won't be able to get the DLC but I got the base game.

@Tasuki I've actually been watching the 1st 2 games on eBay for quite a while, even though I've actually got no way to play the disc versions - I have a Series S. I was going to upgrade to a Series X at some point though, but I guess 2 would be fine as it's on XB1, but not sure if the first game is even playable on Series X via BC.

dmcc0

ralphdibny

@dmcc0 ahh that's really nice! I used to play more realistic-ish racing games (TOCA 2 and Ridge Racer come to mind)when I was little but I think I went off them quite early on and haven't really played one properly into Horizon 4. Naturally I had a healthy dose of Mario Karts, Micro Machines and Destruction Derby 2 though! It really is a breath of fresh air and continues to be almost 2 years since I bought it.

Ive barely made a dent in Lego and also haven't started Fortune Island but I think I will once I've wrapped up the main UK portion. That could be years away though 😅. I do drive other cars in the game, I can't think of what now though. I think like you, I have too many cars to know what to do with. I think the DLC cars that came with the ultimate upgrade have sort of taken over and made the original cars I was using harder to spot.

Do check this but I think that the original Forza Horizon for Xbox 360 is BC on the Xbox One at least. However, the 360 version of Horizon 2 isn't BC but it was a cross gen release so there are Xbox One copies of Horizon 2 that will work natively. I've sort of done some half hearted research as I've been planning to pick them up too and they occasionally get added to my eBay watch list

@ralphdibny Yeah, she's totally gone "all-In" with it. She's got a learning disability so unlikely to ever be able to drive an actual car, but for her 17th birthday she asked it she could get "Forza Driving lessons". We got her a wheel/pedals setup and she now does a 30min or so "driving lesson" each time she plays where she has to obey to the rules of the road. Drives around in a old D Class VW Golf and has to obey the signs, speed limits etc. Once she's done that she has a few races and rips up the countryside looking for the barn finds!

I never really considered myself a big fan of racing games to be honest, but looking back I do seem to have sunk a fair bit of time into them over the years without even realising. F1 & Stunt Car Racer on the Amiga, Metropolis Street Racer among others on the Dreamcast, Colin McRae and Wipeout on PS1, NFS Underground on PS2, Mario Kart Wii.... Even back in the arcades when I was a kid I recall Chase HQ and Power Drift being particular favourites.

They're more "would be nice to have" rather than stuff I'm actively looking to pick up TBH. Realistically, by the time I've completely finished 4, then gone back and played 3, I'd be more likely to start 5 than go back and play the first 2 - and that's if I do decide to pick up a Series X (a big if!). Having said that, logic rarely comes into it when I'm buying games, so I'll probably own them by this time next month if my previous buying habits are anything to go by

dmcc0

Tasuki

@dmcc0 Yeah I am not a big racing game fan either, I enjoy the more arcadey racers, like Forza Horizon.

As for the first one being backwards compatible on the Seriee S/X because it was free with GWG back in 2016 and I do believe all GWG games are playable on next Gen Xboxes as well as their native console.

Also upon looking it up apparently 2 was GWG as well but apparently I missed it.

@dmcc0 that's genuinely awesome and really sweet. I even think I've tried to play driving games (maybe even like GTA and stuff) like that in the past but naturally I just ended up giving up and driving fast again 😅. That actually reminds me of a trip to Legoland when I was a kid, I was trying to do the driving lessons properly but all the other kids were tearing it up so I couldn't get out at a junction. I remember the Legoland staff actually coming up to me and asking if I was ok haha. I'm playing Mafia on classic mode at the moment so I'm actually doing somewhat realistic driving in that, thankfully there is a speed limiter though so I don't have to think too much about speeding!

I think MK Wii is actually my favourite Mario kart game because of how much stuff there is to unlock in it. It's amazingly addictive and old school in its approach (as there's no MTX).

I'm actually mulling over whether to get Motorsport 7 because it's reaching EOL status. I'm sort of tempted by FOMO but I have had a quick go of it on game pass in the past and thought it was terribly boring so I really shouldn't... But the fomo may yet get the better of me 😂

@ralphdibny I had the exact same thought with FM7 and downloaded it the other night. I did enjoy it, but I don't think I'd actually be willing to put the hours in to be honest so probably won't be buying it.

With Horizon I'm able to just jump on and have a few races or just drive around for a bit, but from what I played of Motorsport it seems like something that I'd have to play quite a lot to get good at. There are so many other racing games on Game Pass at the moment too that I haven't played yet and a few in my backlog too, so I think I'm going to pass on this one and wait for the next iteration to hit Game Pass next year(?)

@ralphdibny @dmcc0 As a person who likes playing both Forza Horizon and Motorsport and has been playing them for years now, Horizon is definitely the better overall series while Motorsport is more geared to the passionate simulation player. I personally play Motorsport only when I listen to a podcast in the background, otherwise I'd never play the games lol. I've finished the career mode in Forza Motorsport 2 and 3 and right now I'm playing through the one in FM4. FM4 is generally considered to be the best game in the series since it has a lot of variety in terms of tracks, cars and so on and I can definitely see that. Career mode is also so much better than previous titles since the races are more varied. There aren't only circuit races anymore, but also point-to-point races, rival races, bowling pin and cone challenges, passing a certain amount of vehicles challenge and so on. I'm definitely enjoying this game the most compared to the previous ones where there were mostly circuit races.

But yeah, I'd highly recommend the Motorsport games as long as you're doing something else in the background, like listening to a podcast. It's very relaxing then to just drive while listening to other people talk. I haven't played FM7 yet but I've heard that it's the best one out of the FM games on Xbox One (i.e. 5-7).

@dmcc0 @LtSarge I sort of have to keep reminding myself that 8 will end up on game pass. I think I'll try and have a bit more of a proper go on 7 before it gets delisted and see if it's worth buying. If I get the time that is

Couple of really good seasonal (Autumn) championships in FH4 this week. A dirt series "Grudge Match" with Mustang vs Camero - The Camero I picked handled surprisingly well on the dirt tracks - and an "Aussie Rules" championship that had 2 dirt races and an off road (I think). Requirement was to use an Aussie made vehicle.

On the flip side, there's also my nightmare championship - S1 Class Street Scene. Japanese requirement for this one. Had a terrible first attempt, but changed to a better handling/slightly slower car for the second attempt and got 2 firsts and a second.

3 more prize cars to added to the bulging collection...

@Reyren Honestly you can't go wrong buying any of the Forza Horizon games right now. The only thing you need to keep in mind that you won't be able to buy the DLC for older Forza Horizon games due to their end of life status. I still am playing through FH3 and have yet to start 4 myself. On top of that I bought a disc copy of 2 a few weeks ago. So yeah its a plausible idea to buy Forza Horizon 4 now.
