Ok so last night i played a bit of FH4....and wow. I thought when i played on a laptop and used an HDMI to my TV that everything was 4K but nope...it was not. That game looks so much better than when i played it before. Excited to see how everything else will look and feel... haven't played Hellblade on the X yet.
As someone who is going to be a late adopter of the Series X is there any games that are optimised for it that are not too different to them being played on the One X? I ask because a couple of new games have just been released on Game Pass, Tetris Effect and Planet Coaster.
I am holding off playing AC Valhalla, Watch Dogs Legion etc until I get the Series X as I know Valhalla will have a higher frame rate and Legion will have ray tracing and as well as both running in native 4K.
@MaccaMUFC Tetris Effect is awesome and really shouldn't be too different between the consoles. IMO that game is at its best in VR - I played part of it on PSVR and the experience is otherworldly....but I an't ever get myself to rig up the whole VR apparatus just to play Tetris, cool as it is. So it appearing on GamePass is a boon, because that game is just so darned good.
Planet Coaster struggles with framerates a little even on Series X, so I can't imagine it offering a fantastic experience at all on even 1X let alone an S, or heaven forbid an OG 1. That was actually to be my definitive launch game for Series X, but I find I'm in such hyperactive mode with the launch of all these consoles and games I can't get myself to focus for simulator pacing. Great game, so far, though! Kinda painful to control with a controller though....it really reeaaaaaaly wants a keyboard and mouse. And I'm too lazy to connect one
@Senua Didn't need the video....I intended to play Watch Dogs, Yakuza, Valhalla, Sekiro every night since I got the X and instead I ended up sucked into FH4 most of the nights.....it just looks plays soo good!
I’ve jumped into Ryse on gamepass tonight and I’m loving it. It still looks pretty good! I remember this game getting a lot of negativity when it was first launched but I’m having a blast. Runs great on the series X not sure how it ran on a base Xbox one though.
@Fenbops Ryse was my first download and my first game on the X. I've never played it and it's absolutely amazing...a freaking playable movie. Now I was playing on PS3 before so my graphical impression might be skewed as a result...but it's great. Was going to play for 20 minutes and played for 3 hours
Does anyone know how to get a custom gamerpic? The option seems to have gone from the app and I tried one drive on the series x last night and still couldn’t change it.
@HisD1sc1ple it's such a crazy deal. I remember renting games and for the equivalent of a few game rentals a month you get the full library of gamepass...with no late fees. I'll definitely be playing more as a result and trying games i wouldn't even have thought of as a result.
Hi all, had the series X now for the past three days. Its really well packaged and silent. Setup was really easy. The longest part was moving games from the external drive to the internal and then downloading the updates.
I have unfortunately had a few issues:
The WiFi network speed seems to be awful, even compared to my mobile phone.
Modern warfare - its unplayable, stuttering like mad and glitching like crazy. Uninstalled and currently downloading again to see if that helps.
Dirt 5 - yesterday was fine but today I'm unable to connect online. Playing the career and in races there is a lot of stuttering and popping of textures.
Tetris effect - wouldn't work at all yesterday. Uninstalled and reinstalled today and it still wouldn't start. Rebooted the series X and then it started working.
Horizon 4 - the only issue I had with this game was when I was showing it off and the fast travel froze and my car lost its paint job.
Anyone else having issues like this? Should I contact Microsoft?
One possible issue I'm noticing is with the system staying in some sort of "running" state while in instant-on mode. The power light and video output is off, I have my old (official XBOx Seagate 8TB) HDD attached.....it's leaving the external HDD powered on despite set to "turn off external storage" option - which is an issue I've had on and off with the X1X as well. But I noticed the main system fan is also running a day later at a very low speed. Obviously I don't want to have the fans running 24/7 for wear & tear. Could be an instant-on issue...could be an external HDD issue since it's leaving the external drive running as well. Yesterday it turned the drive and fan off after a few hours. today it didn't.
Not sure if it's just me or if others are seeing that?
@Nexozi i had something similar on Forza Horizon 4. I selected a car with a paint job but it was stock. After I finished a race it was back in the paint job.ran and looked great the whole time but that was odd.
I ended up going from the All-Digital One S to Series X. I was actually gunning for a Series S on Preorder day but the X went up on Amazon before the S and I made a snap decision to get one and secure a next gen console. I must've been there quite early as I got my unit on launch day and was unaffected by the Amazon delay.
Very impressive so far. Early in the year I bought a new 50 inch 4k TV with HDR for the new game building I set up outside the house (giving the old game room to my wife as an office) and the step up from 1080p to 4k is really impressive. Sadly the TV only does 60hz, so no 120 FPS for me, but still the increase in fidelity is quite impressive.
I have over 300 games in my collection (and that doesn't include Game Pass) and noticed a TON of games needed to download updates even though I had two 4 TB drives with all my games on them. I am guessing there were Xbox One X updates, since I was coming from an S model? Thankfully I had upgraded my internet from crap internet (3Mbps) to something a bit better (25Mbps) due to a recent upgrade in our town. It helped a lot pulling everything down.
Also this was my first day one console so that was cool. We tried to do day one on the 360 but missed out, caught them in store a month later. It was sort of surprising considering the preorder fiasco that me and my two friends all managed to get systems (me from Amazon, one from Best Buy, and one from Microsoft).
For those looking for Series X launch games on Game Pass, don't sleep on Tetris Effect. I know "it's just Tetris again" but it's a wild ride, it has a killer atmosphere that feels like Tetris had a baby with Lumines on the PSP. Cross Code is fun, but I'm not really seeing anything in that one that couldn't be done on the XBox One. Sea of Thieves looks a lot prettier, but I haven't spent a ton of time in that game to do much. The water looks absolutely amazing though, it's quite hypnotic in a way staring at the sea. No Mans Sky seems to move smoother during gameplay as well. My son says Dead By Daylight also looks a lot better. I played some Ori and wow, silky smooth movement compared to the last Ori game I played on the Switch. I plan on checking out Planet Coaster this weekend, and the updates for Mortal Kombat 11 and Master Chief Collection next week.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with the purchase. I am usually a PC gamer for higher end games, but the Series X gives incredible value at its price point. This is easily pushing the graphics you would get from a PC in the 1000 dollar range, perhaps more. Heck, there's a part of me that wishes you could get to a normal version of Windows 10 and throw Steam on it, as the CPU and GPU are very high end, it would only be a lil snug in the RAM.
@graysoncharles the internal ssd shouldn't be on while in sleep though, only powering up occasionally to check for updates. And it shouldn't be keeping external storage powered on if set to not keep external storage powered on in sleep. That's not a new xsx issue, the latter is an existing x1 thing I've run into frequently. They did it, then it starts again, fix it, it starts again. Annoying, but the system fan running when it shouldn't is a little more troublesome.
Sounds like mousieones runs even when fully off, so it's not even about having remote playing connections enabled.
Not a crisis but am issue that really should be resolved. Better than ps5s "whatever you do, do not use rest mode or or can corrupt your drive"
@NEStalgia well it looks off. I don’t think anything is downloading. My room is quite cold. Even after I shut it off at night, in the morning, I can feel warm air out of the main vent. It’s not as much. But the console is very cool to the touch; it’s just the vent that expels the air. I have my system set to instant on; I assume it has to do with that.
@mousieone ah, so it probably is due to instant on. I rebooted mine as it had occasional stutter after connecting the old hdd.... Maybe it just needed to flush cache. If the fan stays on again I'll try turning off things like remote management and streaming etc. I like instant on for auto updates, but it's not as important a feature as it was on 1x since QR doesn't need it for game suspend. But i like auto updates....
