As a 90s kid, I've been tracking the European version of Sega Mega Drive Mini for years. Well, today, Sega Mega Drive Mini 2 was announced! I'm beyond excited! It will include Mega Drive and Mega CD games. First games confirmed:

@Beagle It will have over 50 games but only these are announced this far. I also missed the first one and when I wanted to get it, it was impossible to find here. I like the original Mega Drive European design the most, so I regret not getting it when I had the chance.
I actually have two the Mega Drive Minis from when it was released. It is worth every euro. One is hacked and has all Sega games from Master System, Game Gear, Mega Drive, Mega CD and 32X, a childhood dream came true!
I would love to get the Mini 2 but I am not sure I want to pay shipping import costs from Japan. Seriously shipping + import +24% taxes!!! I did not import the Mini Arcade from Sega but it ended releasing in Europe last year and I got it then!
@belmont I'm sure that Sega Mega Drive Mini 2 will be released in Europe and America. The only problem is that I like the original Mega Drive design the most (nostalgia?).
I never owned any of the Sega consoles except Dreamcast. Same with Nintendo. I was an Amiga gamer back then. Think it was an age thing, My friends and I all had Computers. But I have Launchbox with emu's for all those I mentioned.
I missed a lot of really good games back then. This will sell like Hot cakes.
@GarbonZoni I never owned the Mega Drive but school friends did and I loved it but I had the SNES and my parents didn't want to spoil me. The Mega Drive Mini sold very well and the original was ahead of SNES in some regions so this new mini console will sell like hot cakes, indeed.
Looks awesome but an NL article seemed to indicate it would be more expensive than the first one due to higher production costs since that one was made. Maybe that's why they went with adding Mega CD games, to help justify the extra price to consumers.
Will be getting one if it comes to the UK but I'll have to rejig my mini console cabinet!
I'm hoping the thing is under £100 still. I would be willing to go slightly above that if it included Knuckles Chaotix, I am not sure what the resistance has been to re-releasing that game.
I still want that Tower of Power but they only made like 5 "western" versions for influencers. I guess this might get a similar thing going for the Mega CD 2.
Would be awesome if the MD2 Mini was actually a functioning Tower of power. The cables would be less confusing. A short hdmi from the MD1 to the Tower as a pass through and then one HDMI from the tower to the TV.
When I was little, we had a Mega Drive 2 and a Mega CD 1, they fit together fine and worked but it looked very ugly!
According to what's being reported online, Sega Mega Drive Mini 2 will cost 9,980 yen (€71/£61/$76), so it shouldn't be much more expensive than the first one, even considering taxes and import fees. I don't know if the cosmetic Mega CD Mini will be available outside Japan. Nice collection @ralphdibny, I only have the SNES Mini and I really want the original Mega Drive Mini because it's the coolest.
@Banjo- Thanks! Maybe I will move the PSVR and PS TV out of there as they aren't really "mini consoles" as such. I still quite want to get the pc engine mini (coregrax mini) when I have some disposable income so definitely need space for 2 more!
I think the original MD mini was around £69.99. I think we can expect VAT to be added to the Japanese price, unless they have their own kind of product tax as well. Not sure really, fingers crossed that its a reasonable price!
The mainland launch European price of the OG Mega Drive Mini was 85 euros. I was able to get two before the price increased. Seems that the new one will be on par pricing-wise.
@Banjo- I'm not sure if it was you who mentioned that you don't have a mega drive mini 1 because it's price has shot up. I just randomly saw they have them at CEX for 60 and 90 for unboxed and boxed versions. Can check their listings to see if any stock is available near you or if you can order online

@ralphdibny I bought one that is almost new on Ebay, I received it this week but it's already modded and to add/remove games I need the backup files. I'm trying to figure out how to reinstall Lunar. The person that modded it included repeated games and some don't even have art box.
The console itself looks AWESOME and when I was a kid I wanted the Mega Drive so badly that it's great to have this mini version.

I must admit that I've left all my mini consoles with stock software. I do have a raspberry pi if I ever have an itch to play something that is not so above board. I've got a couple mini PCs knocking about too and I've been planning to upgrade to them for a few years so I can emulate more systems, I just never got around to it!!

105 quid. I know I harped on about price earlier in this thread and it is now over 100 quid and also does not contain knuckles chaotix (the localised Mega CD version of Snatcher is also on my wishlist for one of these things) but its looking like this is gonna end up hard to find so probably best to get an order in now.
@ralphdibny Your collection of mini consoles is about to be complete! It's so weird that the final list doesn't include Knuckles Chaotix. I hope that Sega is not planning to release a Sega Mega Drive 32X Mini 🤣.
