In the vein of breaking news, it appears that today is the day I finally lost what little remained of my common sense.

A little background first, I'm 41, almost 42, and shall we say on the cuddly side.  According to my doctor, my ideal weight is around 80Kg.  I currently weigh a lot more than that.  (Course even when I was skinny I weighed more cos I have a big build, but never mind)  Anyhoo, I've been hitting the gym with good results, starting to see muscles emerging from the lard....So I've agreed to run a half marathon in September next year.

So, starting Jan 5, I'll be turning into Rocky, running through the streets etc....Although here the crowds don't follow you cheering, they stab you and steal your Ipod.

Why do I let myself get talked into these things?  Even the wife just laughed when I told her.........

Red, it'll be fine man. I too am on the cuddly side having progressed downwards from a body state classed as memory foam. Hang in there and it'll be over before you know it. Also when you succeed can't you then claim to be winning at marriage after defying the laughter? Or am I misunderstanding that game? It's quite possible as I'm not that old and relationships confuse me at the best of times.

Also Hetty, that royally sucks. I would suggest EDF but they have nice people who answer the phones and contractors who can't even read the labels telling them how to read the labels that explain the instructions on determining what is their arse and what is their elbow. I hope it works out quickly for you.

Although if that is seriously how kids are than I am so tempted to nerf my nads.

I left them for OVO, little known company who produce a bigger percentage of energy from renewable sources. Lovely to deal with (so far) as well.

Red go for it, good luck! My sister is running the London Marathon in 2015 and she's never run a day in her life before apart from the 100m sprint at school! She's really enjoying training.

Muppet, toddlers are both a joy and a massive pain in the backside in equal measure. She was two in October, and she can have me in stitches sometimes with her quirkiness, she's brilliant. And then on days like today I can't wait for Mister to get home from work so I can have five minutes away from the little moo xD

Red, they told me I was too fat, they told me a smoker could never finish 15K, they said that I may be risking my own life. I crossed that finish line and drop-kicked my running buddy in an adrenaline high, raising nearly 2K for breast cancer research. Do. It. Up!

And one of my all time fave songs too!

Thanks guys, I'm planning on getting sponsored for Cancer Research as a big kick up the arse to get it done.

Good luck with that Red, you'll smash it mate. Let us know how to sponsor you and I'll chuck you a few quid.
After Christmas my wife and I are going to reduce our food intake to try and lose a few stone. My ideal weight is somewhere between 9 and 13 stone, which for someone that is 6'1" is very thin. I don't think I've been 13 stone since I was about 14 (I'm 39).
It's all in the name of not dying and showing our kids that eating well is the right way to go and not eating crap at every turn.

Another member of the under-tall club here (although I am 6'3")...or as my Doc eloquently put it "in Fat Bastard territory".

Keep it up Red and let me know when you have a sponsorship page up and running. Cancer is a bastard that took my Brother, so I'd gladly contribute.

Excellent, go on mate!

My sister got into running a few years back, she's now done the London Marathon twice, Dublin, various others that I can't remember and is doing Berlin next year, and she's even older than me (although only by ten months).

Apparently, it's addictive. Can't say I see it myself, I think she got the sporty genes.

Lol I'm more lanky than cuddly (6'5 15.5 stone) but I'm certainly not 'fit' by any stretch and the prospect of running 15k makes me feel tired already lol.

Setup a Just Giving page (or something similar) anyway Red and I'll happily donate too - I've lost too many family members and friends to this already and you deserve support for such a crazy challenge!

I don't quite know what a stone, nor a quid is (yet) but set that page up and I'll surely toss some dollars at it Red! Keep us posted on your training as well, "2 min on- 1 min off" was my go to routine.

A 'stone' in this context is 14 pounds or 224 ounces Its approx 6.35 Kg in metric terms...

A 'quid' is British colloquialism for their currency ie quid = £ AND IS APPROX $1.50-$1.60US depending on which currency converter you use and the current exchange rate...

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Cheers guys, I like the support!

Cap'n, I lost my little cousin (Well, I say little, he was 27 but I'd seen him grow up so he'll always be little to me) to it about 3 Xmas's ago.  Makes this time of year bittersweet in that I see all my family, but theres still a hole where he should be, you know?

Anyway, 5th Jan is the official start of the training regime, I'll keep you all updated!

Sorry to hear that Red. Sadly by Brother passed on 31st Dec 2012, so New Year is an awkward time for me. I know exactly how you feel. I raise a glass to him at midnight and shed a tear.

Good luck with the training and definitely setup the JustGiving page.

For me it will be going to the in-laws for Christmas, Boxing and New Year's Day and they only live about 3 miles away so traveling isn't an issue. My kids are super excited for Santa coming in a couple of days!

@Redt620Ti I'll be making the journey to Nottingham in Feb for our OXM get together, I hope you will make the MASSIVE journey
