The huge Xbox end-of-year sale is now underway, featuring more than 800 discounts across all sorts of Xbox games and DLC packs. It's a biggie - containing even more deals than last month's Black Friday promotion!
With such a gargantuan sale comes the effort to scroll through the entire thing to pick out what you might want. Well, we're here to break down some of the very best deals the Xbox Countdown Sale 2022 has to offer!
From huge 2022 releases to some incredibly hard-to-resist discounts, here are 10 games you should definitely consider picking up in the Xbox Countdown Sale 2022 in our opinion:
Elden Ring (Xbox Series X|S)
What we can we say with this one? FromSoftware's 2022 smash hit recently won GOTY at The Game Awards, and for good reason. Elden Ring successfully builds on what came before with the Dark Souls series, breaking down any barriers and creating a vast open world for players to explore.
Elden Ring is currently discounted by 30% in the Xbox Countdown Sale. While this isn't the biggest discount you'll see here, it's applied to one of 2022's very best games and if you haven't dipped in yet, now could be a great time to do so!
- Xbox Countdown Sale 2022: £34.99 / $41.99
(Deluxe Edition also on sale)
Resident Evil 2 (Xbox One)
Resident Evil 2 Remake may well be the best Resident Evil game ever, well, before Resident Evil 4 Remake launches anyway! Capcom's re-imagining of the 1998 classic delivers the perfect balance of classic RE atmosphere, modern controls, spooky zombie bois and smooth, slick third person shooting.
This one has been on sale quite a lot in recent months, but we want to highlight it again here. Resident Evil 2 is a whopping 75% off right now, so you've got no excuse to bring the Halloween cheer to this festive season! The 'Raccoon City' bundle is also heavily discounted right now, containing both RE2 and Resident Evil 3.
- Xbox Countdown Sale 2022: £7.99 / $9.99
(Deluxe / RE2&3 Editions also on sale)
The Quarry (Xbox Series X|S)
2K and Supermassive's summer blockbuster The Quarry was a real return to form for the dev team, which has been deep into developing its Dark Pictures series in recent years.
The Quarry had more Until Dawn vibes than those later efforts, which is a big reason behind our positive review of the game back at launch. This one makes for a great horror movie-like experience to chill out with over the Holiday break, and well, it's currently the cheapest it's ever been on Xbox Live!
- Xbox Countdown Sale 2022: £21.44 / $34.99
(Xbox One / Deluxe Editions also on sale)
What Remains of Edith Finch (Xbox One)
We'll beat this drum all day long - What Remains of Edith Finch is one of the best ways to spend two hours of gaming time on Xbox! Giant Sparrow's narrative adventure is a real delight throughout, throwing some surprising twists into the typical 'walking simulator' formula.
The game also recently got upgraded for Xbox Series X and S, delivering a smooth 60FPS experience on current-gen consoles. Oh, and it's under a fiver, which is a bargain considering the quality on offer here.
- Xbox Countdown Sale 2022: $4.79 / $5.99
Need for Speed Unbound (Xbox Series X|S)
Need for Speed Unbound only launched this month, but it's already a whopping 40% off on Xbox right now! Thankfully, such a steep discount doesn't reflect the quality of the game; this is our favourite NFS title in some time!
Criterion manages to add its own flair to the tried and tested formula, delivering a more 'fun' take on the series after the team's decade-long break from the franchise. Racing fans, this is definitely worth considering if you're after some open world arcade action this year.
- Xbox Countdown Sale 2022: £41.99 / $41.99
(Palace Edition also on sale)

I've never played a Diablo game... ever.
Worth a buy? Feels like a steal at that price.
@Kezelpaso Hey Ben, any idea of RESIDENT EVIL 2 Deluxe Edition have a "save 37,50 with game pass" tag? The game is not part of game pass, is it?
@raftos Hey! No, it's not a part of Game Pass but for some reason it's showing as being extra discounted for Game Pass members. The store appears to take another £1 or so off when signed in as a GP member!
@FraserG It would be but still has many issues look at the reviews. The Diablo games are excellent especially 3.
I had to get it refunded a couple of weeks ago as the servers wouldn't work. I had great difficulty signing up for an account took several attempts. When the game finally did load there was no sound. However some seem to have no problems.
@Kezelpaso Bizarre. Thank you Ben!
@Cyberpsycho Hmm, maybe I'll look into 3 instead.
@FraserG It would be a safer bet but you could also get the Prime Evil collection with both games as in the sale. I think it's £16.49.
@FraserG I found Diablo 3 to be alot more new player friendly. I would start with 3 and if you enjoy it then go to 2.
@Tasuki @Cyberpsycho Thanks both!
Nothing that really catches my eye after all. But it might be because I've already bought pretty much everything I wanted in the last few sales.
I'll probably grab something just for the sake of it though. Soul Hackers 2 it's tempting.
