Talking Point: Will Nintendo Switch 2 Appear At Xbox Developer Direct 2025?

OK, look, Nintendo Switch 2 rumours are flying around so much at the moment they're hard to ignore. Yes, we know the system isn't directly related to Microsoft, and yes, we're fully aware that this site is called Pure Xbox - but we actually reckon Team Green could have quite a major role to play in the reveal and software lineup of Nintendo's next console.

Just last week, we heard rumours that the Xbox Series S could play its part in developers porting games to Switch 2; due to its lower-powered nature compared to Series X and PS5. Although this isn't official information — we don't even know the Switch 2's specs yet — it does feel like Switch 2 and Series S shouldn't be too far off when it comes to overall power. And with Microsoft now pushing on with its third-party plans, Xbox could be a major publisher for Switch 2 in the coming years.

Today though, we're seeing fresh hints at Microsoft and Nintendo possibly being more closely aligned than we first thought. It's now heavily rumoured that the Switch 2 reveal is coming this week, and that could potentially open the door to Xbox mentioning the system during Developer Direct next week. The Verge's Tom Warren seems to have taken note of the timing of these two events, anyway.

This is by no means confirmation of anything Nintendo related at Dev Direct, but the possibility will be there if the timings land as we anticipate they will. Fancy another little bit of pie-in-the-sky speculation, from us this time? Bethesda was at the centre of some Switch 2 software leaks recently, so who knows, maybe DOOM: The Dark Ages could be confirmed for Switch 2 next week? Warren also speculated on a potential Sea Of Thieves port for the system recently as well, considering the game is now on PS5. Stranger things have happened in both cases!

If all goes to plan with Nintendo, we should officially learn about the Switch 2 console this week - and who knows, maybe Microsoft may have a thing or two to say about it the following week at Developer Direct 2025. Whatever ends up happening, we're set for an exciting few weeks in gaming, folks.
