The Nintendo Switch 2 has been all-but announced at this point, with leaks taking place on a near-daily basis for the console that's set to be officially unveiled over the next couple of months. We're only watching the news from afar here at Pure Xbox, but an interesting new rumour suggests the Xbox Series S could have a big impact on the device.
When it comes to third-party ports on the Switch 2, we've already seen some rumours floating around for the likes of Tekken 8 and Red Dead Redemption 2, although obviously nothing is confirmed yet. When discussing this on ResetEra, an apparent insider known as John Harker advised that companies may be leaning on the Xbox Series S versions of major games to help build new versions for the Nintendo Switch 2:
"There's movement to try and get scaled Series S versions, don't know how it's tracking obviously."
To us, this would make a lot of sense. The Nintendo Switch 2 looks set to be much more comparable to the Xbox Series S than the Series X or PS5 in terms of performance and graphical capabilities, so it could end up becoming an extremely useful resource for anyone trying to fit demanding games onto Nintendo's hardware. This includes Microsoft, of course, which has a full lineup of first-party Xbox titles that could potentially make their way over to the Switch 2.
Again, this is just a rumour and it may not end up being as big a deal as suggested, but clearly some companies are going to lean on the lesser-powered Xbox console for assistance in situations like this. Microsoft probably didn't factor in the Switch 2 when conceiving the Xbox Series S all those years ago, but considering the big multiplatform push that's going on right now at the company, it could end up proving more valuable than first anticipated!

Let's hope series s haters will finally stop their lies... Now the developers will do their work to port games on switch 2 and there won't be any excuses.
Oh to get Sea of Thieves on a Nintendo console!
The next COD may be a Switch 2 release, and be very similar to the Series S version. MS signed that ten year deal to take COD to Nintendo after all.
Oh yes, and with AI enhancement these days it could even perform better.
Would be so dope to get these games om the switch 2. MS can make serious money with their IPs on that device.
Killer Instinct, banjo, qonquer quest and perfect dark. Those games would sell like hot cakes on the device.
I already have KI but would double dip easily.
Switch 2 using Nvidia chipset means different upscaler, different delivery method so I wouldn't expect this to be too comparable. Suppose lessons could be learned from the whole "start with lower powered hardware in mind" development cycle?
They seem like very different systems with different architectures, from different providers etc. If leaks are to be believed the Switch 2 will have more RAM than Series S, which is it's main issue, but a slower CPU. So they will have different requirements.
But more broadly I agree that by already having to target a lower baseline of hardware like the Series S, or Steam Deck will make ports more frequent and help Switch 2 out in that regard. Though if it sells anything like the OG Switch devs will want to port to it anyway, it's too many potentially missed sales otherwise.
With the number of Switch 2 units that will be sold, it's a great opportunity for Xbox to port certain games like Call of Duty to the Nintendo console. The future of Xbox is bright, and their hybrid strategy that combines multiplatform and exclusive games is bearing fruit. Another nice snub to the haters and the blue-capped fanboys.
I just wish Xbox hadn't given up on Smart Delivery as a mandate for all new titles. Sony is much better at it now.
Developers should build for the S first and then up the ante for the X rather than the other way around. The majority of games do not need the full power of top end consoles.
Switch 2 will return the favor to series s. Companies will make new releases targeting switch 2 that will keep series S releases possible.
Most games are likely to continue this plateau for the next 5-10 years regardless of what "gen" consoles are in. Handhelds will drive the market.
Well we will see more games on switch 2 than on series s.
The difference is switch sells in droves so devs want to port their games and willing to put extra work. We have seen ports of games that were considered impossible on switch like witcher 3.
Switch 2 is guaranteed to sell at least as good (assuming people with switch 1 upgrade at some point).
All this is NOT the case with series s as it sold not enough to justify costs for some devs. Moreover recent trends are people buying series X more now than series s (there was an article about this for US for sure). So when parity ends at the start of next gen (i am convinced its one of the top reasons they want to kickstart next gen earlier), series s will be the quickest to die whilst we see way more interest for switch 2 from devs.
Would be very funny to see something like black myth port on switch 2 in couple of years lol
@RadioHedgeFund This would not only make Series S ports higher-quality and easier to make (no getting painted into a corner like with Baldur's Gate 3), but Series X and PS5 would also benefit: if the S is getting anywhere near 1080p60, then that guarantees that the big consoles will get great results, even with minimal extra work!
...but people would complain that the games aren't pushing graphical boundaries, and that the Series S is holding the generation back.
Irony would be to see Black Myth Wukong announced on the switch 2. This is an odd comment though because the tech stack is so different on Series S vs Switch - except artifacts.
Actually the Series S should have a big impact on the Switch 1.
Considering the Switch 1 is more powerful than Series S. Less issues too.
@RadioHedgeFund And that is exactly why and how the Series S has held back the Series X from reaching is full potential.
@Millionski People should absolutely buy the Series X over Series S every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
For starters it's the superior console without the issues we read about Series S on weekly basis.
@GuyinPA75

Look, just because you don't like the Series S and bash it at every opportunity you get, you shouldn't make flat out false statements.
@GuyinPA75 The whole point of the S/X is that the X plays S games in 4K120. If they aimed for the lower console you'd hit this level of performance on the top model.
What we instead have are games on the X and PS5 with so much visible vegetation pop-in it would make the PS1 blush.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Series S isn't also helping games come to Xbox One/PS4 after their current gent launch (like Jedi 2)
@GuyinPA75
“Considering the Switch 1 is more powerful than Series S”
Just no.
@GuyinPA75 yes. A 100%. Bad series X suffers because of the need to develop on series s. Hence the 30fps issue on the SX
Just bought a bunch of Nintendo stock on this news
@GeorgeKal There's valid excuses for the Series S problems, namely 7.5GB of usable RAM for games. It's the reason BG3 lost its split screen. Seems to be the reason for no Black Myth too. Switch 2 with 12GB, which might have 10GB available to games, is already at an advantage there. The other being it's probably only PS4 level in GPU power, so games will have to be scaled down a lot more, thus needing even less RAM.
@Millionski Nice to see someone that understands.
@electrolite77 @Sol4ris Wait? My statement of Series S being less powerful than Nintendo Switch is false? The Switch is not more powerful? Interesting. Surprised me.
But I do know that I'm correct in saying Series S has lot more issues running games than Nintendo Switch does.
Actually...more think on it. Series S is the only console this generation that has so many issues trying to play games from this generation. Really makes me want to go out and buy one. Heck maybe 2? That way when try play game that's not working properly, I can try it on the other Series S to make sure it's the console and not the game.
Oh, who am I kidding. It's always going to be the console.
If the rumors are true about the next Nintendo console the next Pokemon game better not be a total piece of ***** like the last 2 or 3 have been
