It's time for the weekend! We've got plenty to play on Xbox over the next two days including a few new Xbox Game Pass additions along with three more Free Play Days titles, and there are also hundreds of new deals on the Xbox Store!
Here's what we're playing this weekend:
Fraser Gilbert, Editor
I haven't yet had a chance to play Still Wakes The Deep on Xbox Game Pass, so I feel like that's a good candidate for this weekend. Walking simulators can be a bit hit-and-miss with me, but everything I've seen of this game so far suggests I'll enjoy it, and our 8/10 review here at Pure Xbox suggests the same as well!
Elsewhere, I'm still enjoying the wonderfully clunky Police Simulator: Highway Patrol expansion, and I've also started re-downloading Starfield to check out some of the new Xbox mods that are now available. All I need is an arachnophobia mod, and then I'll be ready to put 100+ hours into the game...
Have a good weekend, folks!

This is the first weekend since being in Downtown LA for Summer Game Fest where I can slow down and just… play a game. Well, as I write this I’m re-installing Elden Ring on my Xbox Series X. I don’t have the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, but it’s easy to get swept up in the hype, y’know?
Besides being the ‘hype-sheep’ I often find myself becoming when folks get excited, I’m also playing New Super Lucky’s Tale too. Honestly, it caught me off guard because I thought the game would be awful. It’s not bad at all!
Happy gaming, folks!
What will you be playing on Xbox this weekend? Let us know down in the comments below.

Hello there fellow gamers.
This weekend is all about Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.
It´s all I can think about right now, playing this gem of a game.
And Nothing Else Matters....... Until I´m done with it.
Then, I´ll probably go back to AC Odissey and Rise of the Ronin.
Cheers everyone and happy gaming weekend to us all
Fallout 76 skyline valley
Have decided now to drop Rise of the Ronin and Hellblade 2. Just playing Gran Turismo 7 while I decide on the next game to play from the backlog. Maybe Balatro, who knows.
Playing the rôle of a messed Up détective Lost in a strange Disco world, trying to resolve a crime while discussing with my inner thoughts.
I havent played a game like it for over a decade, but I took a look at Anno 1800 a few days back and Ive have late nights since!
Ive also got the latest WRC game (codemasters/EA) cheap in a sale, and Im really enjoying it - so much content!
Whatever you are playing, have a great weekend...
Working today and helping someone move tomorrow, so I’m not sure I’ll play anything. I’d like to play Shadow of the Erdtree though and I’d like to have a session with my kids and The Thousand Year door, but I don’t know if that’s going to happen.
I'm still playing FIST: Forged in shadow torch before it leaves gamepass. Other than that maybe a few rounds on PGA Tour golf.
I'm moving house at the beginning of August so there's a few things I need to be getting done in preparation for that.
Oh, and the football is still on 😉
Happy gaming everyone 👍👍
@xeofate Can’t go wrong with Balatro. Best indie game released this year by a wide margin. If it clicks for you, man, will it click. It’s the only game my wife’s gotten annoyed with me playing this year.
Finishing up Still Wakes the Deep. Sooooo good. Don’t sleep on it!
Playing Jedi survivor this weekend.
And might give Mass Effect Andromeda a go.
I'm trying to finish Sword and Fairy since it's leaving Game Pass. Didn't feel too well these last few days so it was on stand-by. Hopefully I can get a few hours today and tomorrow.
Played more Zombie Army 4: Dead War with the guys last night. Still having a blast with it.
Since the Nintendo Direct did not show Metroid Prime 2 Remaster, I figure it must not be coming for a long time if ever, and got Metroid Prime 2: Echoes running via the primehack version of dolphin. Yes, I do own the physical copy, I just don't want to play it with that horrendous control scheme. I'm maybe 1/5 of the way through. It's pretty good, but not great so far. Scanning everything is just kindof annoying tbh. Looking forward to what will happen next.
Also chipping away slowly at Octopath Traveler 2 and possibly starting up Still Wakes the Deep if I end up with any extra time or get tired of scanning ad nauseum in MP2.
Resident Evil 1 remake. I’m surprised at how well it holds up, it’s just a really good game. The controls and fixed cameras are difficult to get used to though.
First days of summer vacation, so awesome 😎
Rise of the Ronin - its very fun to play this game regardless of its flaws. Im going bonkers clearing the map for collectibles while trying to keep focus on the main missions as well, but its just so satisfying clearing each area 😅 Switched to japanese as well which is so much better!
Still wakes the deep - Havent played very much yet but really like it so far. Great scottish dialects and good voice acting, very good atmosphere in the game as well and it looks good but performance is not very good on the Series S. Still, looking forward to playing more!
I'll be on elden ring but not the dlc just yet have to level up a bit before mohg so I'll just be searching for random mini bosses and stuff to level up and hopefully beat the main story boss I'm on aswell I'll be on still wakes deep aswell really good game so far happy weekend all
Ice Age Village (Windows Phone) - Still visiting daily.
Microsoft Bingo (Windows Phone) - I feel like my grandpa with all the bingo lately
On Switch, I'll be busy with Trails of Cold Steel IV, Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and maybe Knights of the Old Republic.
On PS5, I'll continue Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance.
On Xbox, I'll most likely play System Shock, Red Dead Redemption 2 and maybe some Ghost Recon: Future Soldier on the side.
Still wakes the deep is quite fun so I will be playing that mainly with my favorite Indy this game so far Brotato … Try Octopath 1 for the third time and am enjoying a bit more but have a hard time with the voice acting
Started a replay of Elden Ring, I dont want to go into the DLC with my original character.
That monster looks like Chris Hemsworth.
More Fallout 4. Having a great time - funny, I don’t remember enjoying it half as much when I first played it about seven years ago. The improved graphics help. As I’ve got Monday off, I’m certainly going to give Still Wakes the Deep a go.
I’ll also try to make the most of the sunshine, since we had to wait six and a half months for it!
World.of Warcraft Mist of Pandaria Remix (PC) I got two months left to grind out as much bronze to get all the mounts I want. I am also really tempted to start another character, if only I had the time.
XDefiant (Series X) This game keeps growing it's nice when you have devs that listen to the players. Along with the upgrade to weapon leveling and TDM I will be hitting the this game a bit this weekend.
Evil West on Xbox and TTYD on switch.
@somnambulance Hopefully it does click, I've got it on the steamdeck so will give it a go later. A lot of the innovation in the games industry is coming from indie games like Balatro while the big companies play it safe with the big games. Rise of the Ronin is a decent game with good combat but doesn't really do anything new. Nintendo are also quite innovative with their games to be fair.
Finishing gears of war UE, Still wakes the deep and Callisto protocol.
Haven’t played anything for over 2 weeks, and prior to that I was averaging 2hrs/week on AC Valhalla. Realising now that I need something else to give me a quick fix so I’ve just picked up Order 1886 for my PS4 Pro. Also fancy getting back into Days Gone.
Doom Eternal and Gears Tactics. The Xbox game showcase clearly had an effect on me!
Nintendo - advance wars 1, Kirby return to dreamland
Xbox - dead space remake
Pc - quake 2
Playstation - burnout 3
Totally digging Still Wakes The Deep. Was playing it with Gerry Cinnamon and his girlfriend. When Gerry asked why all the Scots had Irish names I shrugged and Gerry's girlfriend punched me on the mouth. I guess she really was a belter. Still Wakes The Deep is a belter of a game as well.
Focusing on Mario Rabbids 2 on Switch, but looking forward to go back to Boltgun and Immortals of the aveum next week on Xbox
Spongebob truth or square, and I like it better then the two new ones.
Still Wakes the Deep, and finishing up Hellblade 2
Jedi survivor, I might shelve this. It is a great game but I've played so many games recently like this lately that I think I'm getting open world fatigue, even though I know I could just jam out the main quest I can't help but explore every little nook and cranny and side quests that I'm burnt out. Need a palate cleanser after this for sure. Any suggestions?

@xeofate I love Nintendo’s first party output and I love Balatro. It’s a pretty inventive take on a pretty basic game, if you ask me. It’s one of those games that wormed into my brain and I thought about it when I wasn’t playing it. I don’t get that “I can’t wait to get home to play that game!” type of feeling very often these days, so it was sort of a thrill to have that again for me. Don’t get me wrong. I love games, but I love them in a way that doesn’t usually make me distracted from normal life. Lol
I've been playing pretty much just F.I.S.T. for a few days now and I think I'm nearing the end. It has been a very satisfying Search Action game and it can be very challenging at times. I'm glad I'm putting a focus this year on playing games that are leaving game pass as I've played some gems that I might otherwise let pass by.
Finished replaying Fallout 3. Blew my mind back in 2008 and the exploration, vibe, VATS, freedom all still hold up.
Tried Zelda TotK - seems like a huge hassle without the elegance of BotW.
Animal Well is probably next.
Just finished Hellblade 2, an overall fabulous experience, just the right length for a narrative focused game. Astonishing graphics even at 1440p. I've thoroughly enjoyed Senua's two games although I can safely say they won't be for everyone. The visuals have me excited for the next Witcher among other future titles.
Tomorrow I'll start Still Wakes the Deep while I'm on this quick narrative kick.
Nothing, because I am burning in hell, covered in browntail stings. It sucks so bad.
@ZYDIO ouch.. Hope it improves man, that sounds horrid...
How do you mean my friend @ZYDIO ?
You ok ?
Playing Elden Ring non-stop.
Not "Shadow of the Erdtree"...
@Jenkinss You could respec your characters stats would save some time but going tru with a fresh character sounds fun too
@FatGuyInLilCoat Still wakes the deep is good if your sick of open world games I recently finished jedi survivor aswell great game but felt compelled to do all the side stuff aswell curse that voice In my head
@somnambulance Yeah there's not many games that have that effect nowadays. Balatro is the sort of game that makes me want to make games myself, it almost seems doable with the limited assets it uses. The focus is on the gameplay rather than the graphics. I'm glad its seen the success it has had and hope to see more indie games with clever gameplay like that.
Oops,I ended up playing Doom Eternal all weekend 👀
@Bullspit760 great picks 👏👏👏
@Ricky-Spanish yeah actually that does sound like a nice change of pace. Something linear and I enjoy horror games. Thanks!
Octopath Traveler 2 for a long time for me still
Well here we are with another superb WAYP. That Nintendo Difect this week eh? Definitely gotta say my next most anticipated games this week are gonna be Mario and Luigi and Zelda. Them and Metaphor. Weekends been pretty neat with some Apollo Justice Trilogy and Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth. Tho I feel I’ve been neglecting my switch a lot with how work is so that along with a really rough emotional dream has me thinking I’m gonna do some Paper Mario and start Chapter 3 and then either some FFXIV and get set for Dawntrail with some Pandemonium wrap up or some SMTV: Vengeance because I’ve really been wanting to show that game some love. Thinking it’s gonna be XIV tho. Thinking this week is gonna be some Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, Paper Mario, more P3R and maybe more Stellar Blade. Oh and some Ed/Akuma/M.Bison sets in SF6 with a buddy. Gonna be a weird gaming week as my only day off is when I get to go to Madison Square Garden and get to see FRIDAY NIGHT SMACKDOWN. Very excited for all the Money In the Bank Qualifiers I’m gonna get to see like with Logan Paul and Tiffany Stratton and Blair Davenport. Hoping to get to see Cody Rhodes, Solo Sikoa and the Wise Man Paul Heyman as well. Also got two new games coming this week in the form of Super Monkey Ball and Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD. Extremely excited. Also think I’ll check out and chill in some of the new Hololive EN Girls streams now that I’ve reorganized my VTUBER love to focus exclusively on the Hololive English Speaking streamers. Anime of the week gotta go to Kaiju No.8, Go Go Loser Ranger, Delicious in Dungeon and Urusei Yatsura of course. All absolutely superb. Podcasts of this week gotta go to Castle Superbeast, Big Think Dimension, Into The Aether, RPGsites Tetracast,Minnmax, Jeff Gerstmann, Kit and Krysta, Last Stand Media, Easy Allies, Second Wind, Nextlander, Cultaholic Wrestling and Remap Radio. And alas we wouldn’t be done without an incredible huge magnificent lovely shoutout to my dear friend over at twitch.tv/akibread and their wonderful amazing streams please give them a look. As always yall stay safe in this wild heat, be incredible to each other. Have an excellent weekend and of course Happy Gaming.
@Titntin Thanks, It's pretty bad when something keeps me from my Xbox. I haven't played in 3 days I think. I haven't gone that long in probably 10 years.
@ozkrmz Browntails are the caterpillar to the browntail moth and they have all of the poisonous hairs all over them. They are overpopulating this area. The hairs linger for up to 3 years. People breathe them in, they fly through the air and land on people's skin. I got extra lucky and got a huge concentration of them while cleaning up the yard that's in the woods. My whole body waist down is covered and some on my arms and chest. It's so bad it made me sick and get no sleep for days.
When I get better I'm gonna start Hellblade II, I just finished the first one. I'm also playing through Spec Ops: The Line again after playing it years ago. I record all of my gameplay if anyone cares to watch. www.youtube.com/zydio1103
@xeofate Oh, man, the soundtrack in there is fantastic too. In my younger, more eclectic years, I was contracted to soundtrack a JRPG that never saw the light of day (or finished development, for that matter). Only gig I ever got in music, and I’ve not really written music since that project like 7 or 8 years ago now, but, man, I was jealous of the sound design and songs they made for that game. So simple, so easy, but so perfect and so utterly unique. I totally get what you mean by that.
Dear friend @ZYDIO
I am truly so sorry...
I hope you can recover as soon as possible...
Please kindly share the good news when you are fully recovered.
Those poisonous catelpillar hairs are awful...
Get soon well...
I finished up Stellar Blade, jumped back into a bit of FFVII Rebirth, and even though I had no plans to play it, I spent most of my time playing Shadow of the Erdtree.
@ozkrmz Thank you and I"ll be fine soon, the worst is over. I think I'll get back to gaming today.
@ZYDIO
Sounds great...
Truly happy to read that you'll be fine soon.
Regards from Mediterranean Coasts my friend
Take care...
@ozkrmz Thank you and you take care as well.
