We're now firmly into 2023 (which still seems weird to say) and any new year's resolutions we've set ourselves certainly don't include playing less video games. In fact, quite the opposite - we all have plenty to tackle over the next year!
But, let's not get ahead of ourselves, and focus on the now. Here's what we're playing this weekend:

After wrapping up my third person mode playthrough of Resident Evil Village over the new year, I'm going to tackle the 'Shadows of Rose' DLC this weekend before the long wait for March 24th sets in. Seriously, bring on Resident Evil 4 Remake!
If I manage to get through the RE Village expansion by the end of the weekend, I may take a look at the Last Chance sale to see if there's anything worth picking up. This is the first time Marvel's Midnight Suns has been discounted on Xbox, and after PJ's "excellent 9/10" review, I'm very tempted to snag it at 33% off! Have a great weekend folks.

I'm starting off 2023 with some Halo Infinite. For most of the past week I've been grinding the challenges, they're all done now, so I'm going to finally sink my teeth into the game's Forge Mode this weekend. Based on the maps I've seen so far - ranging from Skyrim levels to Minecraft-themed arenas, the possibilities are unlimited! I might also return to some co-op campaign action.
Apart from Halo, I've also been playing quite a lot of the seasonal content in Battlefield 2042 this week. So I'll probably return to that over the next few days as well. Enjoy your weekend, everyone!
What Xbox games are you playing this weekend? Let us know down in the comments below.

Just finished Valhalla's main story, currently enjoying the new Saints Row for the freeplay, and then it'll be back to Valhalla ot do the Paris DLC.
Resident Evil Village the third person mode feels tacked on and poorly done, obviously to extort more money when it should be free. Swiftly put back in first person as the game has clearly been designed for this and is a much better experience.
Makes no sense not to have first person in the Shadows of Rose DLC when the main game is first person.
Good game but not sure on them moving away from the zombies might just stick with the remakes.
I'm playing Ghost of Tsushima, Until Dawn and Bioshock on Playstation. Bioshock is the most overrated game I've ever played. The third game was one of the best but the first one has so many issues.
Over on GamePass I've been playing Vampire Survivors, it's an okay game. I usually just play this on the mobile.
Playing Switch catch up this weekend.
So got myself a nice new game Bayonetta 3 for £30.
Elden Ring! Never been a fan of Soulslike games (though I did get pretty far in Dark Souls) but this game has sucked me in like few others before it. Also, being able to play it on my Steam Deck whenever I can't do that on my PC is just the cherry on top.
Chained echos! And i really enjoy the time with it!
Hi there fellow gamers;
Having finished and Platinum Jedi Fallen Order, this weekend
I´ll be playing Alan Wake Remastered as well as some Guilty Gear Strive and DnF Duel on my PS5 and continue my first playtrough of the fantastic Outer Worlds as well as some racing and driving around in Forza Horizon 5 on my Series X.
Cheers, stay safe everyone and happy gaming weekend to us all
Playing Saints Wok- I mean Saints Row since its free right now. I'll try to finish it if possible.
@Chaudy Hi there friend;
You are currently playing two of my favourite games of all time with Ghost of Tsushima and Bioshock.
The first is the game I always wanted to play and the second still has to this day, in my opinion, the best story twist in any story medium.
I also really enjoyed the gameplay and Rapture was really well done in terms of ambience and atmosphere.
Give it a chance, you might enjoy it in the end.
Cheers, and all the best
I want to continue my playthrough of Cult of the Lamb, but – much like last weekend – I’ll inevitably spend another half a dozen hours playing Vampire Survivors. That game is so difficult to put down.
On my Xbox Im playing pentiment. Haven't played much yet, but it seems like a fun game. Kinda old school rpg like. Good to see Microsoft is making these kind of games.
On my Ps5 I'm playing Marvel midnight suns. The game is surprising me. Expected a tactical rpg mostly, but the thing you do most is social interaction stuff. Like doing clubs, events and hangouts with the heroes. The game kinda feels like a mix between persona and x om. Loving it this far
Will try to finish high on life , the talking guns are so annoying and the music in is so bad but I have to finish it. And I will surely play goat simulator 3 with my daughter this game is so much fun we laugh non stop at all the crazy things that you can do in this silly game .
I'll probably play a bit of Steelrising. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but the story is horrible
Like what happened?! Anyways...
Other than gaming, I'm going to spend some time with my family because it's Orthodox Christmas Day. To any fellow Orthodox Christians who speak Serbian lol, I wish: Mir Božiji, Hristos se rodi!
Have a good weekend everyone!
Probably a bit of Sea of Thieves. We just got pirate legend last night. Now the initial faction grind is over we can focus on other stuff like tall tales or pirate’s life.
My brother and his friend just got into the game at Christmas too so we’re showing them the ropes.
My favourite game of all time, Shenmue. And maybe some Yakuza Zero, which I recently started (my first time with this franchise)
My new ps5 arrived at its destination for repair this past week, so while I’m pining for Midnight Suns I’ve fired up the series S for some Persona 5 Royal (making slow progress in this one), which is delightful but daunting at the same time in light of the games finish time….I keep hearing 100 hours….
Also there’s a Splatfest this weekend running over in Splatoon 3. Definitely gonna be doing that.
@Dezzy70 where’d you find Bayo3 for 30
I'm playing Pokemon Violet..
Started Shadow of the tomb raider as I bought the trilogy a while ago and never got round to it
This weekend I'm playing Neon Struct and Severed Steel, two very different games with vaguely similar art styles. SS is way too intense to play for long sessions, so having NS to chill out for a minute has been nice. These games coincidentally compliment each other quite well. Might play a bit of Prodeus with the guys tonight - super cool the campaign is co-op.
Scorn. Gave it a 2nd go after thinking it was rubbish back when it was released. Hooked now. I love it.
I started Evil West (Xbox Series X) last Sunday and completed it yesterday morning before work. I adore this title by Flying Wild Hogs.
You know what’s great about this game? It unequivocally knows it’s a video game. It’s a pure Xbox 360 arcade-y, on rails third person shooter similar to Gears of War, and the FPS Bulletstorm. It has the over-the-top dialogue that you’d see in B action movies, and uses the comedy style you’d see in the Wolfenstein games in how they discuss killing Nazi’s, but in this case, Vampires.
Sure, the level design is incredibly outdated, particularly with invisible walls — but there is something refreshing about a tight, 12-hour linear experience that is actually nostalgic. I don’t always need an open world 40-hour plus comedienne. That said, it is disappointing that you can’t backtrack once you realize you missed a collectible, but that’s a minor nitpick due to levels being re-playable.
The combat is pretty fun and frantic as well. It takes a while to unlock new interesting abilities and weapons, but once you do it’s a blast combining everything together to wreck havoc. It can get a little too chaotic at times. Oftentimes, too many waves of enemies will sometimes be thrown at you and it can become overwhelming. In fact, I’ve died in normal mode in this game than I have in any other game in years. It requires you to actually use every weapon in your arsenal. Once you understand that it really makes for a fun time.
I’ll probably start a NG+ in order to unlock all perks and upgrades (it’s not possible to do it all in a single playthrough - a flaw in game design, in my opinion) and mop up some more achievements. Maybe this time around I’ll bring a buddy along.
Overall, Evil West is just old school fun, and sometimes that’s all what a game needs. And did I mention that it’s fully playable in cooperative mode? If that doesn’t sell you ok the game then I don’t know what will.
I’m also starting Crisis Core - Final Fantasy VII Reunion on Xbox Series X. I was going to buy it on my PS5, but I decided to support it through Microsoft, with the blinded hope that Square Enix will see the demand to have their games be on this ecosystem.
Another game I’m going to replay is Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition. I’m in an arcade-y, off the walls FPS from the Xbox 360 era type of mood. It helps that it’s one of the best FPSs from that generation, and quite unique as well. I miss those days. Gaming was so much more … fun back then.
Elden Ring just beat a tough boss and Final Fantasy Reunion. On Game Pass Signalis, Prodeus. On Pc The Forest which is terrifying in a good way
I have been playing the new Saint's Row this weekend and I don't find it as bad as a lot of other people said it was.
@Benved Great game to choose! That’s my 2022 GOTY.
While I am still plugging away on my Xbox backlog (playing Halo: MCC for the first time), that was curbed when I was gifted a Switch OLED and LoZ: BotW which is also a first time for me.
@Dusk_Actual
Shhhhhh family staff discount from about
£36 to £30 sorry only for me.
Be playing for about three hours now
Taking my time collecting things.
Switch graphics of course playing docked on my LG C2 settings make it look at little nicer and smooth.
Exploring and collecting is good, combat once trained up very very good, once I charged a few setting like camera distance and movement speed.
LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game (PS2) - Four levels remain to complete.
Tetris (Windows Phone) - Just started to kill some time.
Age of Sparta (Windows Phone) - Still haven't played in nearly a week. I should really get back on this this weekend.
Time to start my how to survive storm warning edition iron man run , really enjoying it and got the sequel for after
@BlackMayge @Benved I have come so close to getting that game on Switch but my backlog.... lol
Speaking of backlog, here's what I am playing this weekend.
Bioshock (Switch) Picked this up on sale. Been wanting to explore Rapture again.
Sports Story (Switch) Trying to wrap this one up before moving on to a new game.
Far Cry 6 (Series X) Been enjoying my time with this one recent got it on sale as well.
Can’t get away from the master chief collection. It’s always on my mind
Just started playing Marvel's Midnight Suns some days ago. Was a bit sceptical going in but I really love it now. The story and the social aspect are way better than I expected. And the fighting is excellent done, so much impact and strategic possibilities combined with voice acting and great sound effects. Having so much fun!
PS5
Horizon Forbidden West
I got all the way to reviving Gaia a few months ago then gave this a pause as i landed four months of free PC Game Pass. Thinking to dive back in, want to finish before i play Call of the Mountain.
Quest 2
Until You Fall
Bloody difficult but rewarding and addictive. Pretty awesome VR roguelite, and what a soundtrack!
Mare
Its a bit meh. Lovely visuals and decent puzzles, but it leans so heavy into Team Ico's aesthetic that it feels more like a rip then a homage.
PC Game Pass
Deathloop
Pretty fun, and its style has clicked with me. Am a bit annoyed that the Roguelite aspect sortve makes my favorite part of an Arkane game (the skill tree and finding upgrade items) irrevelant. Fair enough, they tried something new with their formula, its still quite fun.
Pentiment
This one took a while to warm to me, but now im near the end of the first act and im hooked. As an intreractive narrative, it is really on another level. Fantastic and gripping stuff.
Astronite, Chained Echoes, and Halo Infinite.
Finally playing nobody saves the world since it's leaving the service at some point. Fantastic game so far, really loving the art style and starting to get good at switching forms on the go.
Gonna try to finish Signalis which I really enjoy so far, and hopefully start Infernax.
@munstahunta You can toggle the High On Life guns (and NPCs?) to talk much less in the options...
@Scummbuddy thanks but I already knew that and I just finished the game this morning and it’s already erased from my console and I don’t intend to replay this game not my kind of humor .
