Here at Pure Xbox HQ, we've begun theorising on what games might show up at a potential Xbox Developer Direct later this month. We know that the showcase hasn't even been formally announced yet - but it's still fun to speculate on what could make an appearance if Xbox continues its recent trend of January showcases.
We're starting to think that South of Midnight and DOOM: The Dark Ages would basically be lock-ins for the show if it happens, but what about the rest of the event? Could something like Rare's mysterious adventure Everwild finally make a proper reappearance later this month?
As you can see through the story up above, the Xbox studio closed out its 2024 with a fresh image from the game, and that has us hopeful that we might see this title reappear properly in 2025. Truth be told, we're still somewhat confused by what Everwild actually is as a video game - so we'd welcome Rare giving us a good old deep dive on it sometime soon.
As for whether the game would actually launch in 2025 if it's shown off at Dev Direct...who knows? Typically, Microsoft tries to give us an overview of titles planned for the year ahead at these events, but Avowed was featured last year and eventually got pushed out of 2024, so it feels like there's room for something like that to happen again. At this point we just want to see another trailer for the Xbox title!
Anyway, what do you think about this? Could Everwild realistically be shown off at Developer Direct '25? If so, do you think the game would actually make it out this year?

Small snippet of video, maybe this month is a bit early.Perhaps June would be more likely. No chance of 2025 release.
Tbh I've forgotten about this game so a few appearances to get the hype up a bit would be a good idea.
I'd expect it to appear at Not-E3 and probably not with a release date.
Even if it makes an appearance at the show (which would be great) it's unlikely to release this year. We already have Avowed, Doom Eternal, South of Midnight, Outer Worlds 2, and potentially Fable. That is a good amount of first-party games for this year.
I think it reappears in the summer with a new trailer showing gameplay and releases next year. I also expect it to be survival/crafting heavy.
I think they continue the trend of focusing on only near releases for the developer direct show. Avowed, towerbourne?, doom, south of midnight, outer worlds?
Hopefully. I want to know what it actually is.
@BacklogBrad I hope avowed isn’t at the developer direct since it was in the last one with a bunch of review footage
I would like to see Everwild and a hint of what's coming from DoubleFine
I think we’ll see something this year. I don’t think it’ll come out this year, but I think we’ll see a trailer on it sometime this year. Not sure about this month though. I’m going to guess no on that.
@Sol4ris
What the hells going on about 90% of Smyths Toys stores have no series x disc editions in stock across the UK and none for online ordering.
Maybe great for sales for over Christmas but terrible for continued sales.
Are Microsoft having one of those moments or a think tank 🤣
@OldGamer999
Seeing a post from you not lamenting Xbox consoles sales it's a rarer phenomenon than Microsoft actually doing advertising for it 😄.
Jesting aside, I don't know mate, perhaps they never had any substantial stock of Xbox consoles to begin with...
@Prestige-worldwide yeah I feel like we have seen a ton already but that seems to be their strategy. Heckblade, starfield, redfall, indy were all seemingly shown at every show possible for like 2 years.
@Sol4ris
Not having ago about anything anymore all the companies are not worth it, they all seem to be doing things that I totally disagree with at times and seem to either have their heads in the sand or up their own ar*ses 🤣
Joking aside it was nice to see a good few Xbox sales in the UK, though UK does well and USA.
Was just a bit concerning that they have let stock get that bad in good Xbox country.
Just a reminder, Everwild was announced in 2019/2020. As an Xbox One title. It's been going for five/six years since announced. That level of development hell is worrying. Especially since around the time of this games announcement Rare said they were becoming a "new IP factory".
Im not trying to spread doom and gloom, I just wonder what in the world has been going on with this game?
No, and no.
Oblivion Remake though
Yea Everwild is gonna release this year and so is Silksong finally and GTA 6 isn’t gonna be delayed and I’m gonna win the lottery 🙃
I would settle for 2025 being the year we just see what Everwild actually is. If Xbox hits this year with what it claims, that's a banger of a year already.
