We haven't really heard much about the long-in-development Everwild over the past couple of years, but Rare has been silently working away on it, and we might have a sign that some kind of reveal will be shared with us in 2025.
As part of their "Happy Holidays" message on social media, Rare shared a new piece of artwork from Everwild as you can see below, which once again has left us very intrigued to find out more about it... hopefully next year!
Rare first revealed Everwild to the world back in late 2019, but it's clearly undergone some development challenges ever since. Over the past couple of months, we've heard rumours that progress is going well on the project, and Xbox boss Phil Spencer even namedropped the title during his recent visit to Rare's offices in the UK.
We're not expecting to play Everwild in 2025 — we don't even really know what kind of game it is (!) — but here's hoping Xbox might have more details to share in the summer, or perhaps even at an Xbox Developer Direct in January!
Do you think we'll be seeing Everwild next year? Give us your thoughts down in the comments below.

The art style is sublime in the image. Look forward to see more of it, hopefully next year.
Could it be a new MMO from Rare?
I'm guessing survival/crafting gameplay.
Not sure if the key art here is indicative of what the actual game will look like, but if it is…I’m not a fan. Looks like it was thrown together in Microsoft Paint with some magic marker touch ups. Actually, what it reminds me of is the downslide in card art quality in Magic: the Gathering for about the last 8-10 years or so.
Oh well. I suppose for every Okami and Pentiment and Animal Well out there, there’s a law saying we have to get an Everwild, Fortnite and Avowed too. I guess we can’t wear out all the good visual aesthetics.

I think a game's art style has to match its game play and story. Until we get a picture of what the actual game is like I won't be judging the art style. I wouldn't call see of thieves all that great of an art style but it fits the game really well. Unfortunately, my expectations are very high on this game since it has been in development for so long. Just hope it lives up to the development time.
I’m intrigued by this game. It’s a big mystery and I just want to know more. Last I heard, they were thinking of going more in a route of Viva Piñata. Curious what they finally came up with.
Considering how many XGS games that were announced in 2019 - 2021 ended up reappearing for the first time in 2024, it feels a safe guess that Everwild and Contraband reappear in 2025.
The genuinely crazy part is that Everwild was announced as an Xbox One game... and now it might be one of the final games released on the Series consoles, as we're in the final year's for that system. Development problems are an understatement.
The dinosaur nerd in me loves this.
It'll launch in 2025 to mass complaints as a live service game then be playable in 2027 with Cap'n Jack Sparrow doing an in game event in 2029. Roadmap predicted!
I actually really liked the vibe this game gave off, hope it's similar to Gris or Ori in terms of the feeling you get playing it. It'll stylistically be different of course but let's hope it's fun more than anything else!
I vaguely remember a time when I was hyped for this but my very long term memory isn't what it used to be.
However good this ends up being, I hope Rare switch up to some smaller games after this. Between Rare and Double Fine the creative AA games should be off the charts.
The visual design always looked stunning. Hopefully they can make a fun game that aligns with that aesthetic. But it’s been in development for a decade and been rebooted, they’re clearly struggling to bring it to reality. Fingers crossed they manage it.
As long as shakey arms Drew and 3 Sheates Neate stay out I think the game has a chance.
Why do I now look at that and think it's going to change to a 2d plat like Moon Studios games were. Weird.
Obviously won't be that given the dev time but stranger things have happened.
