Well, 2025 is officially kicking into gear now that January has come and gone - some of the biggest game publishers in the world are set to drop major projects this month. Of course, one of those is Xbox with Obsidian's Avowed - and we're just checking in to see how excited everyone is for this upcoming first-party release.
It feels like we've been talking about Avowed in some fashion for ages at this point, especially because the game got delayed out of 2024, after being in one of the team's biggest Developer Direct showcases that year. That extra development time will hopefully have helped Obsidian out though, and we're looking forward to seeing the final version in action later this month.
Although we're not exactly connoisseurs of the Pillars of Eternity universe here at Pure Xbox HQ, Avowed is looking like it has more than enough behind it to stand on its own two feet. A bit of The Elder Scrolls here, a bit of Obsidian's own The Outer Worlds there - Avowed will hopefully be a deep and engaging experience that all Xbox Game Pass players can enjoy this month.
So, now that we're finally approaching the game's full release, how are you feeling about it? Are you eager to try out Microsoft's first Xbox Game Studios release of 2025 in a few short weeks, or are you already looking further ahead to what Xbox has in store during the coming months? Talk to us about Avowed down below, ahead of the game's official arrival on February 18th.
Tell us what you're most excited for in Avowed in the comments section!

I tried Pillars of Eternity so many times. And I'm not saying it's a bad game, I'm sure it's great. It just isn't for me.
But I liked the world and the roleplaying. So Avowed sounds like it's just what I want. I'm really excited.
Latest rumours are the game has 40/60fps modes in addition to 30fps. So if true, that’s great that Obsidian backtracked on their previous stance. It would show it’s always worth kicking up a fuss about lack of performance modes, because sometimes the developer actually listens.
I wouldn’t say I’m excited, but I would say I’m interested and hopeful, and I’ll have cleared my backlog by the time it releases unless I pick up something else in the meantime. I’ll be curious which I play first on 2/18. This one or Lost Records. I’d say I’m more excited for Lost Records, personally.
I was always looking forward to this over Indy so yeah looking forward to playing it before wilds comes.
The amount of games releasing is starting to get crazy. Too much to play, with not enough time. I picked up FF7 Rebirth and Dragon Age: The Veilguard over the weekend for PC. I still have to pick up Spider Man 2 and Ragnarok for PC... Now we have Avowed in February, South of Midnight in April, and DOOM: The Dark Ages in May
I haven't played Indy, @PsBoxSwitchOwner, as the style of gameplay is probably not for me. I might give it a go at some point, but I'd have to be scratching around for something to play first, and at present that seems highly unlikely.
As for Avowed, the type of game is of interest to me, however, I've not been overly impressed with what I've seen thus far. So for me, this is a real wait and see type of game. Hopefully it's really good, and something that I'll want to make room for...
Avowed looks amazing, IMO. Plus it's Obsidian. They rarely miss the mark.
I’m very interested in Avowed, on paper it has everything I want but there’s something that hasn’t clicked yet, I’m hopeful this doesn’t turn out in another disappointment.
However, Microsoft, would you mind putting some marketing into your games? Barely anyone knows this game launches in 2 weeks and there hasn’t been any single push for marketing whatsoever.
You should see my Xbox dashboard right now, it's just crazy. I've already pre-installed South of Midnight, Expeditions 33, Avowed, Doom Dark Ages. At the moment, I'm playing Sniper Elite, plus Diablo 4, Indiana Jones, Call of Duty Black Ops 6. All these tiles side by side, that's when you realize that Game Pass is a blessing for gamers
I'm trying to be but no offence you guys are trying your hardest with the stories on here for me not to be!ðŸ˜
Just saying 🤗
@Cakefish where did you read the rumor about a 60fps mode? If this proves to be true, I'll be playing it on game pass day one.
I am very much looking forward to Avowed!

I'm genuinely excited for Avowed! I think that the extra dev time truly helped with extra polish and optimizations. We know it was only going to have a locked 30fps mode but since that extra allotment of time, it's now been announced that Xbox Series X will feature a 60fps performance mode. I wasn't too upset with the 30fps new but I'm glad we're getting 60fps. It just goes to show with more time and proper optimizations a lot more can be achieved than initially realized. If we look at games released late last generation (think Last of Us part 2, and Gears 5) those titles were truly remarkable especially considering they were built on underpowered PS4/Xbone hardware. I think we've yet to see truly remarkable current Gen games, we've come close with Ratchet and Clank Rift apart, Hellblade 2 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, however I think in the next year or so we're going to see truly remarkable current Gen games that truly utilize what these consoles are capable of.
