The whole situation surrounding Black Myth: Wukong and Xbox has been a head-scratcher. Over the past 10 months, we've seen the game delayed after originally getting an August 2024 release date, Microsoft appearing to suggest it might have become a timed PlayStation console exclusive, rumours suggesting the Xbox Series S might have been at least partly to blame, and Xbox boss Phil Spencer himself declining to say anything about the situation.
If you strip all of that away, the fact remains that Black Myth: Wukong is still expected to release on Xbox Series X and Series S at some point in the not too distant future, but it's understandable that some Xbox fans are getting concerned.
For what it's worth, the most recent update actually arrived at the start of the year when it was mentioned by the developer's CEO that the "10GB of shared memory" in the Xbox Series S was "really hard to make work".
Unfortunately, we didn't get any further details about when to expect Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox, or even if it's possible at all at this point, so Xbox fans have been left wondering what kind of timeline might be in place.
It's a shame that the situation hasn't been as transparent as the one surrounding Baldur's Gate 3 when Larian Studios was struggling with the Xbox Series S port, as fans were kept in the loop fairly regularly about what the problem was and how likely it was to be fixed - whereas there's been a lot more radio silence with Black Myth: Wukong.
Ultimately, we're still hoping we'll be able to play this GOTY winner on Xbox at some point in 2025, and here's hoping it might even appear as a surprise at the Xbox Games Showcase this summer. A shadow drop would be very nice!

It’s the devs first full game no?
They said they had issues so just need to respect that - hopefully rather than them half assing it they release BMW in a good state, the delay would be worth it and Xbox players can enjoy it
It's not my kind of game, honestly. But I do hope it comes for the people on Xbox who wanna play it.
Overrated game. Bought it on ps5. Fighting system is cool but the game is a boss rush. Level design is very bad. Forget all the tunnels and shortcuts from souls series. Its literally go right in the desert - fight boss, go left to jungle and fight another boss. Barely any secrets.
It also struggles with fps even on the PRO.
Dont get me wrong its a pretty decent souls-like not from fromsoft but very overhyped imo. I personally dropped after like 20hrs as it got stale and boring. 0 story. Yeah it has its own cool chinese touch but nothing really meaningful or worth remembering. I just feel like 7.5-8/10 max.
I recommend looking at lies of P. Game is 10x times better and on par with the best souls games like bloodborne.
Unless you have beaten all other souls game outta there, I would not be worried that its skipping xbox.
I personally didn't enjoy it too much but it should absolutely still release on Xbox, it seems like the kind of game that the Xbox crowd would enjoy.
We can assume an exclusivity deal for a year.
Even though they say they haven’t got one.
I’m just waiting for it to show up late summer/early fall 🫣😅
I'm not sure why on every article about BMW PX feels the need to lead by repeating rumours that have no evidence to back them up, when GS have made a clear statement multiple times. It just fuels toxicity and the writers should frankly know better.
@Friendly Or we could take them at their word that they are having issues with it on the SS. It's not the first time and if people like Larian struggled its hardly surprising a studio would struggle on their first ever game which was poorly optimised on both PS and PC.
I keep forgetting it exists.
@Friendly Dude it is obviously not an exclusivity deal. Whenever Sony has an exclusivity deal they make sure everybody and their mother knows it. They clearly don't and never did.
It doesn't look like something i will enjoy so I will wait for a massive discount on steam or pass all together.
Honestly forgot this game even existed. It dropped on other platforms and fell out of public perception within a week. Doesn't really doing line something we sounds be holding our breath for. Time to move on to something more interesting. After all, DOOM launches soon.
@Friendly I wouldn't assume it's only a year. Look what they did with FFVII.
This game can be played on Steam Deck yet somehow the Series S is not powerful enough and an insurmountable challenge for the developer.....riiiight 😅.
Absolutely loved this game, and I'm normally one to fall off souls likes in a hurry.
The boss and creature designs in this are simply fantastic, as are the magics and build you can apply to your character. It's tough and unforgiving, but it was definitely one of the best games released last year imo and I agree with the many awards and recognition it has won.
It's a shame it has not made it to Xbox for those who would like to try it as there will be many who will like it as much as I do.
Those suggesting its on a 'Deal' are likely wearing foil hats and reading conspiracy websites as we speak - I can't take anything they say seriously any more.
Hype was there when it was announced, hype is now gone. If it comes to xbox, it's welcome. If not somehow many other interesting games came out, so i totally forgot about it.
@Sol4ris The steam deck has more memory than the SS and they have repeatably stated its the memory issue they are struggling with.
As for insurmountable its more a case of if they have the knowledge and support to make the game run. Its their first game and its not optimised on any platform. So its perfectly believable that they are just struggling. Unfortunately the longer it goes on the more likely they are to give it less resource as they will need to move on to the next project.
I already caved and bought it for PS5 over the summer…absolutely loved it and hope it comes soon so all my Xbox friends get a chance to experience it as well
Was interested when originally released. But with all the various reasons why it's not on xbox and still isn't....
Hard pass I'll play the games that are on xbox and those that are committed to multi format that release at the same time and date.
Anything which is released everywhere other than xbox obviously doesn't want my money.
