Let's talk Assassin's Creed! The new release of Mirage has been available for over a week now, and it's clearly been a massive success for Ubisoft as the company's "biggest new-gen launch" of the generation.
Here at Pure Xbox, we also had great things to say in our review, giving the game an 8/10 and praising it as "a fine adventure that more or less gives us the game we'd hoped for when we took our first leap of faith back in 2007."
We know that not everyone has been in agreement though, and you're bound to have your own opinion about where Mirage sits in the list of "Best Assassin's Creed games of all time". Some may think it's a contender, while others may believe that it's actually one of the worst entries in the series... it's definitely a divisive one!
So, we'd love to hear your thoughts on Mirage down in the comments below, but if you haven't managed to try it yet, let us know instead what you think is the best Assassin's Creed game that you've personally played so far.
Where does Mirage rank for you? If you haven't played it, what's your fave AC so far? Tell us below.
If You've Played It, Where Does Mirage Rank For You? (386 votes)
- The best Assassin's Creed of all time!
- One of the top few for sure
- Good but not one of the best
- Closer to the bottom of the list
- Probably the worst Assassin's Creed of all time!

Not played it yet. Played the others though. But Valhalla is deffo my favourite so far
Loving it, but I think it's going to be too short as a campaign. Much better than the last few iterations.
As of right now:
16. Chronicles
15. Unity
14. Liberation
13. Freedom Cry
12. Rogue
11. Syndicate
10. Odyssey
9. Origins
8. AC1
7. AC3
6. Mirage
5. Revelations
4. Valhalla
3. AC4
2. Brotherhood
1. AC2
Mirage could still go up, I suppose, but it won’t go down. Even if it does go up, I don’t see it topping AC4. The game is so far more consistent than Valhalla, but Valhalla was just so wild of a game that it had these huge peaks to outweigh the lows it hit.
AC is just generally such a divisive series. It was a generally reliable series up to AC4, but then it went off the rails a bit and oversaturated simultaneously, rebirthing controversially into basically a different genre, and now it’s trying to play both sides. What a ride it’s been though. Never a 10/10, but never a dull moment. Even when AC is bad, it’s hard to call it dull. The characters can be dull, but not the game around them.
I think it's good but definitely not one of the best. Granted, I vastly prefer the open world AC games over the traditional formula.
This is kinda the problem with people wishing for franchises to return to their roots. This new entry is just more of the same. Sure combat is better than ever but it's just more stealth, combat, assassinations and so on that we've seen in the series' dozens of entries. At least the open world games were different experiences.
I like Mirage but it's not a game that'll leave a lasting impression on me.
Realized what a great franchise this is when even the games at the bottom of my list were amazing. One of the IP that I will show up for no matter what the buzz is.
1. Brotherhood
2. AC4
3. AC3
4. Valhalha
5. Syndicate
6. Odyssey
7. Origins
8. Unity
9. Mirage
10. Revelations
11. Rogue
Loving it so far, at the moment in my top 5...
1. AC 2
2. Brotherhood
3. Syndicate
4. Mirage
5. Origins
6. Unity
7. Revelations
8. Odyssey
9. Valhalla
10. 4
11. Liberation
12. Rogue
13. 1
14. 3
These are the ones I've played, know there's a few I'm missing. Even the games lower on the list I really enjoyed.
A million times better than the travesty Valhalla . Ranks in my top 5:-
1.Assassins Creed black flag
2.Assassins Creed 2
3.Assassins Creed brotherhood
4. Assassins Creed Origins
5.Assassins Creed Mirage
6.Assassins Creed odyssey
7.Assassins Creed rogue
8.Assassins Creed syndicate
9.Assassins Creed 3
10.Assassin’s Creed unity
11.Assassins Creed liberation
12.Assassins Creed revelations
13.Assassins Creed 1
14.Assassins Chronicles
15.Assassins Creed Valhalla
I’m loving it. It’s nice to have a more streamlined campaign. It merges more modern parkouring and fantastic graphics of the newer games with the original focus on being an assassin (won’t say stealth as you can still play it how you want to.)
When Origins came out, I really enjoyed it at first. The graphics blew me away and I loved the Egyptian setting. But the typical Ubi open world started to wear me down. Felt the same with Odyssey.
I absolutely hated Valhalla because it was so far removed from what I expected from an AC game with the region empire building, etc.
Glad to finally have a “real” AC game to play again.
Might have to give it a shot when things slow down a bit
Haven't tried it yet. Not in any rush to do so since it looks average.
1. AC: Odyssey
2. AC III
3. AC: Syndicate
4. AC: Rogue
5. AC: Origins
6. AC: Unity
7. AC (1)
8. AC 2
9. AC: Liberation
10. AC: Brotherhood
11. AC: Revelations
12. AC 4
13. The 2D ones
Valhalla (playing right now) would probably be in the top 5.
Mirage... seems like it would be at the bottom 6 but maybe I will be proved wrong.
not gonna pay money for a 15 hr ac game.
Haven't played it yet but will play it down the road with Ubisoft+. Heard alot of positives from a friend playing and just need to find the time to play it. Roughly around 40 hours of gameplay with is decent
AC1 remains my favourite. I had fun with AC2 and Unity too. And the sailing of Rogue was great (even if the rest of the game was weak). That’s all of the AC games I’ve played.
Haven't played Mirage yet, but I'm more of a fan of the newer-style games. Of those I've played:
1. Odyssey
2. Valhalla (currently playing, so not final rating)
3. Origins
4. AC 2
5. Unity
6. Syndicate
7. AC 4
8. AC 1
It’s a decent game more excited for assassins creed red
Haven't played it yet. Assassin's Creed III is still my favorite Assassin's Creed tho....
Disappointed that finished the story line in a week but game play is good now open world and just contracts . Hope they do some dlc updates . And also such a small map for this game
So tired of assassin's Creed games they milked them to death can't be bothered to go back and try any new ones
where the option of they are all rubbish
I am in the middle of Mirage and really enjoying the scene of Bagdad. A lot of AC1 vibes but with way better gameplay. When playing these games the parts in history and areas are really cool to me.
1.) AC Blackflag
2.) AC Brotherhood
3.) AC Syndicate
4.) AC Mirage
5.) AC Odyssey
6.) AC Origins
7.) AC 2
8.) AC Unity
9.) AC Revelations
10.) AC 3
11.) AC Valhalla
12.) AC Rogue
13.) AC1
Wow, @somnambulance! There was me thinking that I had played the majority of the games, then I viewed your list, and realised that was not the case:
I have not played
Chronicles
Unity
Liberation
Freedom Cry
I have played Odyssey and Origins, but after having completed near three-quarters of each, I burned out and then failed to finish them. For me, they just got too long. I also just did not enjoy AC3, which I also could not bring myself to finish because I just didn't like the setting.
I have not played Valhalla at all, despite having pre-ordered it. Now, I look at it with trepidation because my understanding is that the game is by far the biggest, meaning that if I could not cope with the previous two, then I can see me struggling with Valhalla. I also have never played Blackflag (which is missing from your list), but I have no idea why I never played it, though most likely work intervened and I was just unable to find the time.
However, having completed the following, I would put them in the following order:
1. AC2
2. Brotherhood
3. Revelations
4. AC1
5. Rogue
6. Syndicate
I am yet to start Mirage for which I have the Collector's Edition (in fact, I appear to have two, which is a tad unfortunate, as I didn't mean to! 😂). Once I've finished Baldur's Gate 3, Starfield, Alan Wake 2, Modern Warfare 3 (campaign only) and Spiderman 2, I should be good to start it. So probably some time in 2025, maybe 2026... 🤣
Origins is my favourite.
Haven’t yet played Mirage.
Enjoyed it a lot, especially as a more traditional non bloated AC, but def in my bottom list.
1. Brotherhood
2. AC2
3. AC4
4. AC3
5. Origins
6. Revelations
7. Rogue
8. AC1
9. Valhalla
10. Syndicate
11. Unity
12. Mirage
13. Odyssey

Spot on with your 3 top predictions. 👌 👍
I am currently playing Assassin's creed origins and bought gold edition origins. But i have got Assassin's creed odyssey ultimate edition. Just waiting on a big sale of Assassin's creed valhalla complete edition. Bc not going to pay € 140 on that edition.
But like you, I more into open world Assassin's creed last 3 games. But I will pick up Assassin's creed syndicate, as I like Victorian London background. Plus gang wars in that game reminds me of the Warriors game. 😊
Good choice and enjoy lifetime of 3 great games, that will take some time to finish. 👍
@Fiendish-Beaver Black Flag’s number 3 on my personal list. I highly recommend it. I can’t honestly say I’ve finished every AC game, but I’ve touched them all. I really loved the series through Black Flag, but found games after that difficult to complete for some reason. I ended up calling it quits on the series when Origins came out though, after diminishing returns and the genre pivot. I didn’t go back to it or Odyssey until I played Valhalla at the request of a friend. Valhalla perhaps received a full playthrough due to it being one of the very few next gen launch titles for PS5 where I played it. I didn’t finished either Odyssey or Origins, but got a little time in both. Both of them had that overstuffed feel to them, which, yes, Valhalla has too, but I just feel like perhaps they leaned a little too heavy into the arpg elements in the first two moreso while going deeper into their sci-fi mythos. It actually surprises me how much some like Origins and Odyssey. AC3 wasn’t my favorite AC either. I did finish that one and felt it was a huge step back from the AC2 trilogy in some respects, but still felt it was a solid title.
I understand that feeling of being overwhelmed with games this year. I’ve yet to return to BG3, personally, after having a rocky start with couch co-op on PS5. Personally, I’m hoping to finish Mirage before Mario Wonder comes out, then blasting through that before Alan Wake, then blasting through that and going back to BG3 as I’ve heard the co-op issues are patched. And in all this, I’ve sort of acknowledged that I just probably won’t have time to return to Sea of Stars and wrap it up in 2023. What a year in gaming, huh? I know my top 20 list this year is one of the favorites I’ve ever had already and there’s still more to play that might make it. Incredible.
Am really enjoying it, but a poll re "RPG of the last few games (origins, etc) vs return to roots" would have been interesting !
I see a place for both, hope they haven't abandoned the RPG for good, esp 'if' this one is a success.
Ahh, you fooled me, @somnambulance, and I've had to amend my list as a consequence! 😂 I thought the first game in there series that I didn't complete was Unity, which launched will a whole load of performance issues, but now you advise me that AC4 is actually Black Flag, I realise that that game was probably the first one that I didn't play. I just don't understand why I didn't play the game, though my life had been completely upturned by some events in my personal life that might explain why. Anyway, I therefore assumed that I had played AC4, when in fact, I hadn't. My list is a little bit iffy anyway, as to an extent, I don't fully remember some of the titles now, just maybe a vague feeling of which I enjoyed more.
I hope you do get to enjoy Baldur's Gate 3. For me, it is my all time favourite game, and I've been gaming since I first played Pong as a 9 year old way back in 1973 (yes, I am that old! 😂). I've been playing the BG3 on my PC since it came out in August. I have a solo run that is nearing completion and that has thus far taken over 260 hours, and a co-op campaign with two mates, which will likely take well over a year because either one or the other of the other two is invariably missing in action. The game is a genuine masterpiece, and will win a warehouse full of awards over the next 12 months.
I think for me, 2023 has turned into probably the best time to be a gamer, despite a slightly slow start, it is finishing in majestic fashion... 😊
@Fiendish-Beaver I’m sure Baldur’s Gate will no doubt win multitudes of awards. I jumped on it for PS5, given that all my PC friends had been gushing about it, only to have my wife and I have a buggy experience the first couple times we tried to start. Without crossplay as well, there goes my friends that have it too. Lol. I’m hoping it knocks our socks off when we relaunch our campaign. It was impossible to tell how I’d feel about it from what we did play, but I could feel there was something special there, even if those early technical issues sort of prevent it from being my personal GotY… unless my mind is blown completely when we try again. It could happen.
To be fair, AC was beginning to enter a CoD/Fifa/Madden rotation where it was small variations on the same game over and over to an extent. Rogue and Liberation were totally expansions that didn’t really need to exist, for instance, and I’ve sort of soured on them in time because of the sheer number of AC entries. When a series is so prolific, it can hinder how the series seems title-to-title because it can be a chore to play the same thing with little variation (or if you don’t like how they vary). I’d say the AC series is pretty much a 6-8/10 series through and through though. Only 2 and Brotherhood and maybe Black Flag would be above an 8 for me and I may be thinking in 8.5 land. 2 may be the only 9. Maybe Brotherhood. I like the series. It’s good we have such a workman series, even if it never touches the stars it reaches for.
I for one think that Assassin's Creed: Mirage is great. I mean it's not my favorite of the franchise but it's definitely in the top 3. I'll definitely be playing it more even though I've already finished the game.
