We've finally got the confirmation of an Xbox Developer Direct event for 2025, and the good news is that it's only a couple of weeks away! We also know what's going to be included, with four titles featured in all.
Three of these have been named in the form of DOOM: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight and the third-party Xbox Game Pass title Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, while the fourth is a "surprise" that's being kept firmly under wraps.
You'll find some of our speculation on what that "surprise" might be elsewhere on Pure Xbox:
Regardless of the surprise, it looks like we're going to be in for a great show. DOOM is an obvious one - if it's anything like DOOM 2016 or DOOM: Eternal (which it certainly appears to be), it's surely going to go down a treat this year.
It's harder to get a vibe about South of Midnight, which is the next release from We Happy Few developer Compulsion Games, but we're certainly hoping it lives up to its potential. Expedition 33 is the wildcard in many ways as it's not an Xbox first-party title, but it still could end up being the highlight of the show for a lot of Xbox fans.
So, let's get some votes in, shall we? Which Xbox Developer Direct 2025 reveal are you most hyped for as things stand? Let us know down in the poll below, and feel free to elaborate in the comments section as well.
Which Xbox Developer Direct 2025 Reveal Are You Most Hyped For? (672 votes)

Expedition 33 all the way and its not even close!
Doom Eternal is one of my favorite games ever. I’m so excited for Dark Ages.
I hope the surprise is the rumoured oblivion remake it would be great to play through the game again!
I’m most excited for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. It looks so good! And I love how it’s so inspired by JRPGs, since JRPGs are my favorite genre of games. I’m also very excited for South of Midnight, as South of Midnight looks very unique and interesting too. Plus, seeing what the surprise game might be is also very interesting.
doom the dark ages and south of midnight for me
I doubt it, but I want the surprise to be Forza Horizon 6.
I want South of Midnight to be good, but I still don't have faith in the combat. It looks incredibly weak from shown footage. Hopefully that will be changed, but Compulsion games have always been sloppy even with best intentions, so we'll have to see.
I am very curious what the surprise is but I am also confident that doom's segment will be the coolest part of the show.
I don't care what the surprise is as I'm looking forward to all 3 of the other games. Not a fan of turn based combat but there is something about Clair Obscur that has really piqued my interest.
Going to be an absolute banger of a show I reckon.
Expedition 33. Don't care about the others, although South of Midnight looks kinda interesting.
ID feels the need to force multiplayer trophies/acheivements on those who have less than no interest in mp and are only here for the single player, so I have no interest in that by way of recompense. South of Midnight looks…interesting, but it could easily end up being mediocre. Expedition 33 looks like the turn based RPG greatness all recent FF’s should have been, instead of that low-intellect real time slop so that one has me most excited. I’m curious as to what the secret reveal is, but that could go either way. Might be cool, might be some rinky dink throwaway nothing of a game.
Can we have a not excited for any option please?
Whatever the surprise is. I would have said Fable but it's not going to be there, sadly.
Oblivion, but Clair Obscur is looking very intriguing as a JRPG fan who doesn't like anime.
I’m fairly excited for all four games, honestly… well, the mystery of the fourth, at least. But of the ones we know, I’m planning on playing the three of them. They all look great to me! I think South by Midnight’s my favorite of the three right now.
The poll results remind me of this classic joke:
A boat is a boat but the mystery box could be anything, maybe even a boat, you know how much I’ve always wanted one of those.
@RBRTMNZ I quote that Family Guy line so much.
Hopefully a decent 'surprise ' game. Not really bothered about the rest.
Doom all the way!
But South of Midnight looks so interesting so that's right up there too.
@RBRTMNZ who could resist the allure of the mystery box?
Clair Obscur by a country mile.
Only interested in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 this time around. I doubt the surprise game will be anything mind blowing for my tastes but very happy to be proven wrong.
All seems like garbage. Cant wait til gta6
People said the same thing about Hellblade 2 last year. But it ended up being a Reality Check Direct.
Hellblade 2 was ACTUALLY revealed to be "as long as the first game", so this confirmed it wasn't a God of Ware level of a game and that it was clearly AA (nobody knew this before this point no matter how many people claim now that it was always AA).
This also revealed that its irrelevant that Xbox bought them and their money didn't make the game a bigger budgeted affair (another claim people kept guessing about the game).
It was revealed it wouldn't have a physical edition........ on a game that turns out it would ACTUALLY fit on a single 50gb bluray disc, the only disc format series x supports for games.
It was yet another 1st party Xbox game with no 60fps option for series x owners....... because series s exists.
Overall it was a pretty big downer for the game and a lot of people were put OFF the game more after these revelations....... definitely given by how it under performed.
"It should be a good show" but you know it won't be, there certainly is nothing historical to prove otherwise. Hi-FI Rush anyone??? and the state of how Xbox treated that franchise and studio beyond the Developer Direct that game got?
Look forward to em all but do wonder what the mystery game is so went with that🤣
@RiverGenie Can we have a not excited for any option please?
We do, it’s called ignore the article cause you aren’t excited for it.
My wildcard prediction for the surprise is the wu tang game that was rumored off and on. It should be getting to close to an official reveal soon.
@HonestHick I answered the question the article asked & wanted an option to reflect my answer to give a more honest reflection of all views both positive & negative. Sorry to have intruded on your sunshine & flowers only positive views allowed echo chamber.
@RiverGenie I welcome negative reviews on games people are interested in and those games didn’t live up to the expectations. Cause that is informative. Not seeing someone say they have no interest in any of the games. Kind of made no sense to me i suppose
