Well, Microsoft's 2025 Xbox Developer Direct announcement is here, with the company planning to detail four upcoming titles set to grace Xbox Series X|S this year. However, while we know what three of those games will be, Microsoft is being very secretive about its fourth title; the event will see Xbox "visit a surprise location to see another studio’s brand-new game".
So, folks, what do we think this mysterious fourth game could be? Prior to the announcement (and afterwards, in some circles), we've seen speculation that Virtuos' rumoured Oblivion remake could be that final title - but we're now hearing otherwise. Extas1s — a well-known leaker in the Xbox world — claims to know that the fourth Dev Direct title will not be this new version of The Elder Scrolls IV.
If that ends up being the case, and Oblivion doesn't make an appearance, where does that leave us? Well, to be honest, there are so many options from Team Xbox that it's hard to name them all. Could it be Halo Studios' rumoured Combat Evolved remake or Rare's Everwild like we mentioned in our initial news post? How about something like Gears of War: E-Day or Fable; two titles that also could launch this year? At this point, who knows?
Another, perhaps left-field choice, could be 'Quake 6'. If you cast your mind back to last year's Developer Direct, Bethesda did tease such a thing during the team's in-depth look at Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. However, with today's announcement saying that this fourth reveal will see Xbox "visit a surprise location", this seems unlikely - given that Quake developer id Software will already feature in full force during its showcase of DOOM: The Dark Ages.
