Microsoft showed... nothing
Fantastic if you’re a multi-console player; probably pretty rough if you’re strictly Xbox only. There were several big surprises tonight though, especially Death Stranding 2, Hades 2, a new Armored Core, and Horizon Forbidden West DLC. If you own a PS5 there was a lot to be excited about tonight.
…but where’s the Goldeneye remaster? Truly thought it’d be shadow dropped tonight on Gamepass and Nintendo Switch Online, as it’s the last month of Bond’s 60th anniversary.
C overall. F for Microsoft presence. Seriously where was Starfield? Forza? Great line up of games coming in 2023 so almost no showing tonight was sad.
Maybe they’re blowing their budget on lawyers for Activision.
Makes you want any game system not called Xbox to be honest
I had low expectations, but Judas, Jedi Survivor, Bayonetta Origins, Hades 2, Remnant 2, Horizon FW DLC... It was awesome. Best TGA yet imho.
I rate the show rhymes-with-kite.
Didn’t watch, have only caught some random trailers from coverage (finally finished Persona 5 with best ending after 200 hours!)
Sounds like Xbox didn’t reveal anything, making it odd that they would reveal their price increase Monday. Makes me change my mind on the reasoning (that we would see preorders open up for Red Fall) and now thinking it was just jumping in early to fight any building narrative that Xbox would hike prices only after they owned ABK.
Every time that I think Microsoft is an incredibly unproductive gaming company, they top themselves.
They showed...absolutely nothing. NOTHING. Think about this: Microsoft is allegedly releasing a BUNCH of games in 2023. Do you believe that now? Couldn't they put a SINGLE TRAILER together? They didn't even have the courtesy to TELL us they didn't do anything. I'm flabbergasted, to be honest. Phil Spencer was in the audience! NOTHING?! I'm actually really interested to hear the Xbox apologists explain this one. Every other announcement was something for PlayStation. Microsoft showed ZILCH. We STILL don't know when anything is coming, 3 YEARS after that famous sizzle reel. No Hellblade, no Forza, no Avowed. NOTHING. Incredible, that's all I can say.
@awp69 I'm not sure i believe there's a "great lineup" coming anymore. I assume they'll get Starfield over the goal line, and i think Forza will release, but at this point i could easily see them getting nothing else out except a bunch of excuses and promises. Terrible, nothing ever changes.
@Spaceman-Spiff Absolutely, positively NOTHING.
Now just wait for Phil's excuses tomorrow. should be great.
Kind of embarrassing for Microsoft. Not one premier? Really? Maybe FTC PlayStation Progressive Kahn told them they weren’t allowed to show anything as part of the back room deal to get the Activision merger approved. All kidding aside, this was really embarrassing for XBOX. And no Elden Ring DLC!!! Crap!!
Tbh I'm just dumbfounded. They didn't show anything... I mean I didn't imagine that right? And Phil, he was there wasn't he? Look I'll always be an Xbox fan but even I'm struggling with this one.
Outstanding. Even with things I wasn’t interested in, the energy was fantastic (and it had that wtf moment at the end). Really happy with the showcase. And DS2. Need I say more?
Best one yet, though still a bit long. Great announcements in general but a little weak on the Xbox side. I honestly thought they would have more to show.
Thx goodness i didnt watch it live and waited after for the trailers.
The VGA's themselves: B
Microsoft: Incomplete (you don't get a grade if you don't turn something in)
Not sure why anyone is making such a big deal of Xbox but reveling anything there. No one makes a big deal when Sony does not even shows up at E3, and this is always meant to be a show about awards. The reveals are just secondary ads.
This show is so biased though. We should just call it the PlayStation game awards. It was basically a free sales presentation from Sony. All the cheers after every PS5 game. Ironically in the Microsoft theater! Was Nintendo even present?Stray is nominated over Pentiment or Grounded? Stray was unplayable, at least to me. GOW has been out for a month and won that many awards? At least no one could take away how good Elden Ring was and deservedly won GOTY.
The show was great! Lots more games to look forward to now and, although I don't agree with all the winners, I can't complain about any of the award winners.
As for the Xbox side, not sure why so many of you are upset that Xbox didn't show anything themselves. There was lots of cool announcements for games that will be playable on Xbox. Having no first party Xbox game announcements doesn't change the fact that there's still lots of games to look forward to!
@cburg "was Nintendo even present?"
Bayonetta 3, Splatoon 3, Kirby, and Mario + Rabbids all won awards. Doug Bowser was actually one of the few people to go on stage multiple times to accept a major award. So yeah, Nintendo was definitely present.
I think the better question is, did you even watch it or did you just come straight to the comment section to complain because you didn't like all the results?
@bpomber Facts
The show was great. Loved a lot of the stuff. And overall there’s was a ton of content. And the awards were paced okay. Al Pacino was there ….
MS sucked though. Literally a big giant zero.
It was very disappointing to me, as a xbox user. Made me somehow wanting to get a PS5, which is a shame mainly because I've got the Series X since launch date and in the last gen I've chosen PS4 over Xbox One. So this year, Sony takes the cake. Let's hope that 2023 is going to be better for Xbox users. This was a great event for Microsoft to shine with some gameplay and release dates for their new IPs, I guess that they are too busy trying to please Sony in the Activision case, instead of working and creating the needed hype for the xbox upcoming games.
Hugely disappointing from Xbox perspective they didn't even show a new game coming to game pass that we previously didn't know about.
It was as if Xbox doesn't even exist. They did show some promising new games like Judas, Hades 2 and Banisher.
Microsoft continuing with the trend of empty promises and not showing anything to back them up.
F didn’t watch.
@Clankylad TBF they all would have been worthy winners, but Someones gotta win. Charlotte McBurney was incredible as Amicia in Plague Tale: Requiem too. But having just finished GOW:R Chris Judge was absolutely worthy, a performance of real nuance, made me laugh, cry, etc. It wasn’t just voice over, they did full mo-cap for the whole game.
That said I wish anyone else had won so we didn’t have to listen to him drone on for 9 minutes. Worst. Speech. Ever. Lol
I gave it a C. I know he's tried to keep it shorter, but it still drags on..
For Microsoft it wasn't a great showing apart from confirming some excellent day ones on game pass. Bit of a dissapointment.
I'm multiplat though, so for me there was plenty of other stuff I'm very excited to play. I'm very happy to get some HFW DLC and keen to return to that world. I'm glad DS2 is a thing, but as usual, no commitment as to what that thing is! ...and FF 16 continues to excite me the more I see...
xbox series x is a great console and i loved it last year ... but it was gathering dust this year i only now play on my gaming laptop...
man microsoft have 25 studios and 2022 was so emptyyyy so emptyyy and they now raised the prices and 2023 seem ok but i will be honest starfield maybe the hugest game in years in xbox system... but redfall looks like an ok game....that the issue their is no WOW experience in xbox and they are not good at choosing 3rd party exclusivity deals aside of indies
i love xbox but i think im moving on
Worst Xbox year, no big reveal or update just a game pass publicity , no big award either Sony and Nintendo grabbed all the big awards , let’s forget 2022 and hope 2023 will be the Xbox year.
@cburg It’s hard to win awards if you don’t put out games, makes sense that Nintendo and Sony were winning them….
@bpomber You are right about that. They did win several awards.
@Phantasystar77 Fair point. I guess I don't really think about it that way personally because Xbox isn't my main platform.
I do agree with you that Xbox does have issues getting quality first party games released. This is why my preferred platform is PlayStation, because they do not lack quality first-party games.
But at least for the people who do main Xbox, there's still lots to look forward to.
Awards? Solid D. I've had every Playstation console since the beginning and tend to play 100% of their exclusives but I've never been a God of War fan, so Ragnarok really doesn't do anything for me.
Reveals? Solid C. That said, I don't get why the Sony jealousy here? They didn't show a whole lot of exclusives; most of the reveals were multiplatform except for a new Horizon game and FF16. I honestly laughed at the Forespoken trailer because Sony refunded me for my preorder of that game a few months back, now they want me to preorder again? I played the demo this morning and it's fine I guess, but with a new Armored Core on the way, I'd say everyone won something on the reveal side.
Just Diablo 4 for me, and the release date was already out there...
I rate it "who the hell watches this crap"
I gave the show an A, and did so on the basis that I have a PS5, a Series X, a Switch, and a high powered gaming PC. So as a gamer that can access every game shown, it was a very good show.
Now, I think the same can be said if you a PlayStation gamer, as they had a pretty good showing too, plus they got to see God of War: Ragnarök romp home with several well deserved rewards.
If you solely game on an Xbox, then the reveals were somewhat weaker, and then perhaps you would give the show a B (if you were feeling generous), or perhaps a C, because all you could rely on were third-party games.
Here's hoping that Xbox take the criticism levelled at them, and put on their own showcase early in 2023, during which they highlight all the first-party games that we will see as 2023 progresses...
