Thought it was one of the worst gaming shows this year. The games that were interesting, were the ones we've already seen before (i.e. Callisto Protocol and High on Life)
Was in a chilled mood tonight with no expectations and it was a nice watch for me so gave it a C.
Don’t think the industry overall has had a great 2022 anyway. More looking forward to 2023.
Lot of this year 2022 depends on if games like
Callisto, Sonic and Gotham Knights actually manage to pull it off and are top games.
Time will tell, but at this stage I would say they all look and bit in some way, hit or miss.
Had no expectations so was pleasantly surprised at a few so a B from me - although Hogwarts trailer did actually make me less excited for it
It was okish at best. Mostly trailers which doesn't say a thing about the game. 3 million souls clones, games we saw a million times like calisto (looks so generic horror) and Gotham knights. Dead island 2 was the only one where I had like ok this looks like a fun new game, well it had been announced multiple times before but not in this form. Just like the summer game fest 2 hours was waay to long. And stuff like a Pokémon car and a podcast announcement were pure unnecessary fillers
I thought it was decent. 7 new games added to my list.
The only highlight was the subtitles going wrong. Again. It always happens.
D. Seriously the highlight of the show was that Hogwarts preorders are going live.
If I ignore how long it was and the filler, and just focus of what was shown game wise then I will give it an A, so many games that I now want to play/try plus some neat trailers for games we already knew about. Best show so far for 2022, let's see if the game awards can beat it
The games are good but the whole show just felt flat and dull, nothing like the E3 showcases of old, nothing like them. And as for the sponsorship spots and a flipping concept car Mini??? Geoff’s lost the plot I think.
For me overall it ws Dead Island 2, The Callisto Protocol and Moonbreaker that stood out. A few other games looked cool too.
Solid C for me. Highlights being a Pokémon car that's destined to kill somebody. And Kojima coming on to announce...spotify
If you're a fan of dark and/or dystopian themes, extreme violence, gore, and profanity/vulgarity, this has been your year as far as these gaming shows are concerned. They remind me of a comment made by a Japanese developer at E3 2010 regarding the glut of FPSes at the show: "You Americans must really enjoy war" (which, by the way, WASN'T a compliment). If you're a gamer who prefers a more rounded selection such as games you can play on the couch with friends in the same room or simply ones that are family friendly, it's as dry as a lakebed in the Western US right now. I own both a Series X and PS5 and frankly neither has come close to justifying the investment for this console generation for me so far. And looking at what's on offer, that won't be improving for the foreseeable future.
I started watching 45min into so I could skip all the boring parts and in that way was passible. However 90% was just teasers with close to no gameplay or ruining a goodl ooking one with the words "survival MMO"...
@AtlanteanMan Yeah, I completely agree. I play mostly indie games for this very reason. I loved my Series S, but I ended up selling it and getting a PC for the more niche and varied gaming options.
@Dezzy70 I also had no expectations and wasn't particularly looking forward to seeing/hearing news about anything specifically. We all know its been a 'difficult' year for Gamers and Devs/Publishers with 'delays' having an impact on this year.
All I hoped is that some 'surprises', things I wouldn't of expected, elevated what I was certain would be an interesting, if somewhat 'underwhelming' opening night live - at least 'underwhelming' from the perspective of the biggest 'IP's' in gaming not showing up - but that does allow some new IP's and Indies to stand out more and potentially Surprise.
The biggest of the Surprises for me was Life of P and that did more than enough to 'interest' me into wanting to try it. Even if a game is coming to Game Pass day 1, that doesn't mean I will want to play it just because I can. I can't stand 'Fighting' games for example so I couldn't care less if Street Fighter released day and date into Game Pass, I have NO interest in it at all.
Overall, I too gave it a C. Its pretty much what I would of predicted - especially with the way the year is looking. I'm sure some Publishers want to show off 'their' games in their own time - MS has a show tomorrow and today has the Future Games Show so its what I expected from ONL...
I gave it a B. Some interesting stuff for sure, but the big swingers fell a little flat for me. The Hogwarts video was a little under-baked and left us in the office wondering what all the commotion was about that it would be presented. I didn't understand the blonde in the black dress. She read from note cards the whole time and never gave us anything worth watching.
