Earlier this week, we were treated to the news that Alan Wake 2's Lake House DLC will be dropping next week on Xbox Series X and Series S, and therefore we thought our weekend poll should revolve around this popular sequel from 2023!
Of course, Alan Wake 2 got off to an outstanding start with the critics when it launched in October of last year, racking up an average of 90 for Xbox on Metacritic, with our own review giving it an "Excellent" 9/10 here at Pure Xbox.
Since then, we've been treated to the Night Springs DLC that, again, we really liked in our review. Who knows how the Lake House expansion will fare, but we've got high hopes that Remedy will continue this 9/10 trend with us!
These are just our opinions though, and we're keen to know what you think of Alan Wake 2 overall (meaning the DLC as well if you've played it), especially now that we're 12 months removed from its original release. Also, if you haven't bought it yet, feel free to let us know what's holding you back in the comments section!

Will be good to see opinion on this one.
I really enjoyed Alan Wake.
But I have not played number two yet.
Is there as much action in AW2 as in AW.
A good few reviews said there was a lot of investigating and less action than AW.
let’s see what gamers says.
@OldGamer999 There is still a good amount of action, it's well balanced with narrative segments. Overall the game oozes style in typical Remedy fashion. If you're a fan of their games in general then this is a must play. I also love the way they've incorporated and combined the lore between Control and AW. We need more developers like Remedy who make these brilliant interactive single player tales.
Without spoiling anything, AW2 has one of the most memorable video game chapters I've seen in 35 plus years of gaming. The DLC has been short but sweet too. Enjoy!
7/10 good. I enjoyed it but also really disliked things about it. Trekking back through areas, little variation and annoying enemies, and the combat to me is worse than the original. I wasn’t even sure that would be possible. Also Saga was bland and uninteresting to me, I don’t care or like her enough to be invested in.
Imo it’s far from the masterpiece reviewers and some people make it out to be. Good, not great by any means.
There needs to be a voting option for ‘Refused to buy at launch because of scummy decision to release only a digital version; excited to play soon when my physical disc version arrives.’
@Balaam_ Exactly. I'm looking forward to playing this, only a few days to go.
Amazing game absolutely loved it

I had been waiting on a physical edition but now I might wait them out for a complete physical edition. I'm not in a hurry to play this one.
Game’s a 10/10, best game so far this generation for me. Stunning visuals and sound design. Level design is impressive. The characters, the writing, the ambition, the creativity… I could go on and on about it. I had a big, dumb smile on my face several times during my playthrough because it just made me happy.
I realise I’m in the minority, but it just isn’t for me. I tried out the 2 hour trial on PS+ extra, but I couldn’t get into it.
Played it on PS5 but whatever. This was my GOTY last year. Collected all trophies and currently doing an ng+ run. Really looking forward to Lake House next week. Fingers crossed they will add at least one gold trophy. And when that is my only "complaint" this game is a 10/10 in my book!
@OldGamer999 Alan Wake 2 balances things out pretty well between action and exploration.
It doesn't ever reach the levels of the original Alan Wake where, like in the last few stages, you are just taking out wave after wave of enemies (except for one exception I won't spoil).
Alan Wake 2 also handles collectibles very well. Doing those Side Cases actually offer benefits to your character rather than being there for the sake of a trophy/achievement: there are actual character upgrades in this one and in order to get those upgrades you have to explore.
Not played it & having seen a couple of YouTube lets plays I have zero interest in playing it.
It was far and away my GoTY last year. Sound, visuals and level design were astounding. So many unforgettable moments in that game. And can’t wait for the expansion next week!
@GamingFan4Lyf
Thanks, sort sounds good for me.
@tslog Gosh, you must really be bent out of shape that you don't play as Zelda in a vast majority of The Legend of Zelda titles.
10/10 for me great game loved the first one on the 360 the atmosphere the story the graphics it's an amazing game the dlc so far isn't great but lake house dlc looks good!

One of the better games last year for sure. Scared the crud outta me quite a few times.
"im waiting for the disc version" is missing in the options!
Truly an amazing game. Really wraps everything a storytelling game can do. I still haven’t beaten it though. Horror really isn’t my thing. Love the music videos between chapters and jump scares.
No disc version, no sale. At least till a deep discount.
@Faruko a Half-Joke I guess. At the time of this writing, at least seven members from the community seem to have liked it. I guess your sense of humor might be different? Im sorry you didnt find any humor or value In my post but I wish you a good day, sir.
Remedy games just don't do it for me personally.
I was a bit disappointed in how little the story progressed and the confusing nature of T Zane. (New guy or retcon?!?!) I preferred the Stephen King style the first game had. Dark but fun and somehow uplifting.
I love Alan Wake 2. I think the story is great and I absolutely loved the whole Coffee World theme park area. I really tried to get an Oh Deer coffee mug, but have yet to be successful. I would actually love to have an entire game devoted to Saga, because honestly, I enjoyed playing her more than Alan this time! If I have one criticism, it’s that damn studio chapter- not when he’s trying to get out of the studio, but when he’s walking around the sets. It’s just so long! But I could have walked around Bright Falls and Coffee World with Saga all day! Loved her!! I was a huge fan of the first game and have probably played it 5 times on Nightmare mode. I finished Alan Wake 2 (even though it took a long time because of all the crashing on Series S!! Thank goodness they finally fixed that mess!!) and I am trying again on Nightmare mode now! Looking forward to the DLC!
@tslog There’s nothing Woke about it. You’re just someone who is petrified that the world doesn’t revolve around white men. Saga was biracial but not once was race or sex ever projected into the story, unless YOU put it there in your own sick mind.
@Benjamin The Zane part is a bit confusing, but nothing in the series is ever wrapped up neatly. In these psychological horror games I’ve come to the point that in order to buy into it you have to be able to suspend reality entirely, so I just go with it.
You're definitely missing out by not playing it, @OldGamer999. Tis a very good game. Plenty of action, well balanced with everything else that is required of you. Get with the game, old boy, you'll enjoy it...
The game is very good (I rated it a 9 because you have to reserve 10s for absolutely masterpieces such as Baldur's Gate 3 (a game that may never be surpassed)). However, the bit in AW2 where you are traversing an area with the band playing on the huge screens all around you is one of the most exciting bits of video gaming that I can remember. That one particular segment was an easy 11/10 on it's own...
@OldGamer999 I rather enjoyed the investigation and the “mind place” bit. I didn’t find there was any less action because you encountered the action with Alan AND Saga, whom I found to be a welcome addition to the game. The two storylines intertwined well and it was like playing two different games at once but both having the same goal. If you aren’t a fan of having to figure out puzzles in order to progress in a game, you probably won’t like this, but if I wanted a straight action shooter- I would go play Saints Row again. I like having a complex story with hurdles that I have to use my head for, and this one was excellent!

@fraserg the comments sections on this website are increasingly becoming a haven for weirdos. You need better moderating or the normal people will stop engaging.
@FraserG There are some horrible and offensive comments posted on this thread, not to mention a certain user has a derogatory name. Please get some moderators here.

Thanks for the tags. I don't deal with moderation directly, but I encourage you to hit the "Report" button on anything that you feel needs looking at (on any article) and our moderation team will see it.
Anything that needs dealing with will be actioned very quickly during the week, but our weekend hours are significantly reduced - so please bare with us on Saturdays and Sundays.
I can't wait to play that game.
Wait. I HAVE waited. A full year. To get the physical edition.
Time to wake up, Alan !
@FraserG I don’t think anything is report worthy. Most of the anti-DEI crowd knows how to avoid stepping over the line with overt racism and sexism. But over the last year or so the comments section on this website are increasingly filled with people stepping right up to the line. It’s made me less apt to engage here. It’s a bummer because this was one of the least toxic gaming communities when I started frequenting this site.
Always enjoyable to come to an article to read honest opinions, on games I don't follow because I'm curious what people thought......
Can't say the eye rolling slap fights are though, all of you doing it are ridiculous
It was my GotY last year and one of my favorite games in the last decade. An easy 10, for me.
@RBRTMNZ @UndyingInsurgent95 Hey, mod here! I'm just reiterating what Fraser said, but the best way to make us aware is to use the report feature. This will alert us, and then we will review the comments.
Even if you're unsure or don't think they're report worthy, you can still leave a message when reporting just to make us aware of the general comment section
Also as he mentioned, weekends are a bit slower and I had some personal news I had to deal with so I didn't catch them as quickly as usual. Thanks for your understanding 🙏
It's a game I very much want but it's constantly being pushed back by other games I want more, GP titles, and sale items.
Their refusal to release physical right away for the stupidest reason was why I refused to buy it. I have bought hundreds of games digitally but I have never paid more than £20 and that was for a game that cost far more on disc

Won't judge it because I haven't played it and have no interest to. I don't like a lot of the decisions that were made this game from the narrative perspective but also from the business side as well. A shame because the first is among my favorite games of all-time but in recent years I'm finding many continuations of IP I like just not being worth it overall.
