It's time for another round of Pick One! This week, with Starfield now having been out for a little while on Xbox Game Pass, we're interested to know if you think it's knocked any other BGS games off the #1 spot!
There's obviously a lot of competition here in the form of Skyrim, Oblivion, and multiple Fallout games, so it's not an easy decision! We're also well aware that it might take years with Starfield before you feel you can definitively rank it on the list, but at least based on what you've played so far, we're curious on your thoughts right now.
Finally, keep in mind that we're only talking about games that have been developed by Bethesda Game Studios here, so the likes of Fallout: New Vegas and The Elder Scrolls Online don't make the cut.
Let's take a look at the lineup:
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (2002)
Enter the world of Morrowind, a rich province of the Tamrielic Empire, filled with varied settlements and dominated by titanic mountains, vast cities and mysterious wastelands. Within this realm, you cast your destiny: become a noble knight on an epic quest or a trickster thief conniving his way toward leadership. Serve as a malevolent sorcerer or mystic healer, colonizer or outlander. Your actions determine the path you explore.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (2006)
You live within the stunning capital province of Tamriel, called Cyrodiil. As a brave and noble warrior you set on a dangerous adventure, to find the hidden heir to a throne that sits empty, the previous emperor having been killed by an unknown assassin. With no true Emperor in place and no guidance for the people of Cyrodiil, the gates of Oblivion open, bringing only death and destruction upon the humble towns and villages.
Fallout 3 (2008)
Vault-Tec engineers have worked around the clock on an interactive reproduction of Wasteland life for you to enjoy from the comfort of your own vault. Included is an expansive world, unique combat, shockingly realistic visuals, tons of player choice, and an incredible cast of dynamic characters.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (2011)
Skyrim is the homeland of the Nords, a fierce and proud warrior people who are used to the bitter cold and mountanous terrain that mark the lands of Skyrim. Wracked by civil war, and threatened by the return of the legendary dragons, Skyrim faces its darkest hour. You must make sense of this maelstrom, explore the frozen tundra and bring hope to the people.
Fallout 4 (2015)
As the sole survivor of Vault 111, you enter a world destroyed by nuclear war. Every second is a fight for survival, and every choice is yours. Only you can rebuild and determine the fate of the Wasteland. Welcome home.
Fallout 76 (2018)
Play solo or join together as you explore, quest, build, and triumph against the wasteland’s greatest threats. Explore a vast wasteland, devastated by nuclear war, in this open-world multiplayer addition to the Fallout story. Experience the largest, most dynamic world ever created in the legendary Fallout universe.
Starfield (2023)
Starfield is the first new universe in over 25 years from Bethesda Game Studios, the award-winning creators of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4. In this next generation role-playing game set amongst the stars, create any character you want and explore with unparalleled freedom as you embark on an epic journey to answer humanity’s greatest mystery.

Still Oblivion for me. Never has another game captured that feeling.
Skyrim, just. > oblivion > F3
I haven't played oblivion still waiting for a remake but Starfield felt the most complete rpg BGS has put out in a decade. Before that only Far Harbor DLC was the best RPG experience for me although being an expansion. And quite frankly Starfield is thus far the best BGS game for me as a whole and one of the best games I've ever played.
That was a difficult choice, but i had to go with Oblivion. They're all stellar (not you, 76) and Starfield's a strong contender - the only reason I didn't choose it is the fact I haven't finished it yet.
Need to finish Starfield before I can vote on this.
Edit: I’ll say this much: for me any Fallout [76 does not count] ranks higher than any Elder Scrolls game.
Starfield isn't a patch on skyrim or fallout 3 or new Vegas I'd even say fallout 4 is better but it's a good game though just not what was promised most overhyped game of all time
Whoever voted starfield over skyrim, youve pressed the wrong one, change it now 😂 starfield is good but it doesn't have the dark brotherhood so its not the best.
I really like Starfield, but I’ve fallen asleep playing it more than any other game I’ve ever played. I don’t quite know if that’s a swipe at the game (which I do enjoy, despite this) or that good, old fashioned American way of life I have working 10 hours a day with an hour long commute to AND from work.
That said, objectively, Skyrim is easily the best and it still hold up to this day. Skyrim is an absolute 10/10, no bones about it.
HOWEVER, Fallout 3 is my favorite. It doesn’t really hold up so well in 2023, sure, but it just did everything right 15 years ago (wow, 15 years!?). I loved the world, the story, the characters, the music… There’s so many iconic moments too. It just felt otherworldly at the time because I remember thinking it was THE BEST game I’d ever played the moment I played it. Some of the quest lines were absolutely demented too. I had such a good time playing it that first time. Blew my mind in a way few games have. And, sure, Skyrim did too, but Fallout 3 was just a little bit more, so I have to give the credit to Fallout 3.
1. Fallout 3
2. Skyrim
3. Morrowind
4. Oblivion
5. Starfield (although I feel like it could hop up maybe)
6. Fallout 4
7. Fallout 76
PC version of Morrowind every day of the week.
1. Skyrim
2. Fallout 4
3. Starfield
4. Oblivion
5. Fallout 3
6. Morrowind
7. Fallout 76
I love Bethesda’s games so much!
Both Skyrim and Fallout 4 are solid 10/10 games for me, and I would give Starfield, Oblivion and Fallout 3 9/10. I haven’t played Oblivion in about 15 years, though, so it might impact my rankings if I would replay it.
I have played through all of the Elder Scrolls games I-V and I have yet to finish Starfield, im 20ish hours into it.
But。。。Skyrim, not only did I watch the trailer like a million times with my little brothers (3 and 5 at the time of the trailer release) but I Skyrim just has such a great feel to it, the music, the setting, the power everything about it. I love Starfield, it might end up becoming my second or third favorite Bethesda game, its super super good. Just wont dethrone Skyrim for me.
1. Skyrim
2. Daggerfall
3. Morrowind
4. Arena
5. Oblivion
I have not played any of the fallout games or any of the other elder scroll games. But out of the main Elder Scroll games all of them are amazing in their own ways, so even though Oblivion is last, that does not mean that I did not enjoy it immensely. After im 100ish hours into Starfield ill see where it ranks.
I've only played 3 Besthesda games.
Bear in mind I'm more of an arcade gamer, I love fighting games and driving games, not RPGs. But I absolutely loved Morrowind and Fallout 3. Very engaging, and very unique for the time they were released.
But I tried Skyrim and kind of hated it. Whereas Morrowind and Fallout 3 seemed great and kind of next gen in their respective eras, Skyrim seemed so clunky and dated even around the time it was released.
My vote would be Morrowind then.
I am really looking forward to playing Starfield though, when I get a break from work
@Ashadelo Since you enjoy the Elder Scrolls games and Starfield, I would highly recommend the Fallout games. They absolutely have that Bethesda feel to them
@romando you nailed it. Everything about Morrowind was groundbreaking stuff. I don't think another game will ever give me the same wow factor again.
Add in the fact that the construction set provided was super easy to use and it will forever be one of my all time faves.
Oblivion's and Skyrjms RPG elements always felt dumbed down to me in comparison.
Skyrim is the best I put hundreds of hours into that after that fallout 3 and probably 4 before Starfield would rather one big world over a dozen small ones after playing starfield.
For me it is still Skyrim because I prefer fantasy and swords to guns. But objectively it is Starfield hands down. I love the way the systems work (when not buggy) and the NG plus stops the age old character reroll and I love exploring the planets. The random encounters have been hilarious as well. TES6 is gonna be amazing.
I've only played Skyrim, Fallout 4 and Starfield. Skyrim I platted. Fallout I quit after a couple of hours. Starfield I can't put down and I think I might go for 100%.
Way I see it, the best RPG they've made is Morrowind. But the best game is a bit harder. Skyrim is probably just ahead of Starfield to me
Note, weird that Fallout 76 is counted but ESO isn't, considering they're both MMO's?
No real duds in the group though is a credit to their catalogue.
Oblivion for me. Absolutely mindblowing experience playing that in 2006. Love the world too. And that opening cutscene is epic.
Best? Skyrim because it's way too early to tell with Starfield.
But favorite is by far Oblivion. It's still my favorite game of all time and always will be.
Skyrim, Fallout 3, Oblivion. Those are Bethesda's best games.
I'd say Skyrim is still the best game Bethesda have made.
Fallout 3 is the top for me. I never really vibes with Elder Scrolls. I like things about it, I just prefer more Sci Fi centric stuff to fantasy.
I think Starfield will surpass Fallout 4 for me but I'm not sure about Fallout 3. I'm consistently going back and forth between Starfield being a 9 to an 8.5. I've had some truly awesome moments in the game so far and I'm only 24 hours in. But I think the flow is not as seamless as I hoped. Which is one of the things I loved about Fallout 3. It'll probably be my game of the year (still need to finish Jedi Survivor, Armored Core and looking forward to Spider-Man 2). But the jury is far out from it being my favorite Bethesda game or one of my personal GOATs.
Starfield is a game i can play for a longggg time.
Starfield topped many of my favorite games. But have to play it more, to actually decide.
Fallout New Ve- oh wait… Oblivion.
Tried Skyrim so many times on different gens but couldn’t get into it. The closest I’ve ever gotten into a Bethesda game was fallout 4 and I didn’t actually like it that much, so didn’t put much time into.
I’m close to 100 hours into Starfield and I feel like the game still has so much to offer. I’ll be praying it for a while.
Sooooo my answer is Starfield.
1. Skyrim
2. Starfield
3. Oblivion
4. Fallout 4
5. Fallout 3
6. Morrowind (late to this one, played it a couple years ago for the 1st time. Needs a remaster)
7. Fallout 76 (still a pretty good game for being last)
A couple weeks ago i would have said skyrim and oblivion were my 1 and 2 all-time favorite games. Bethesda now has a clean sweep of the top 3.
Need some more time on Starfield until I can judge it. But as of now, Fallout 3 comes out on top followed by Oblivion. Fallout 3 had permadeath for your companions - I still remember the day when me and my trusty ghoul companion got ambushed by some raiders, and a car exploded and I saw his arm fly across my screen (highly traumatic!).
As for Oblivion, it's the true RPG of any Bethesda game. I spent many hours role playing as a poor Orc living in the slums, and plying his trade in the arena.
It’s Skyrim for me. I played that game solidly for months when it came out and then dipped back in on every console since. I do love starfield but I am starting to get a bit of fast travel and inventory management fatigue and a fair few of the quests are just feeling like busy work.
This is so difficult. It's a tossup between Morrowind and Skyrim. Starfield is really, really good though - space is my favorite of the 3 nerd settings. I'm fairly certain they will be my top 3 when the dust settles, but in what order? Truth be told, Todd hasn't made a game that wasn't a masterpiece (there is a game in this poll he did not direct).
Best at the time ...fallout 3 for me
Starfield is great but Oblivion, Skyrim, and Fallout 3/4 are still much better imo.
I tried Fallout 4 this afternoon and I can't believe how similar it is to Starfield, down to already knowing all the controls and game mechanics! I can see why some reviewers could knock BGS for not innovating. Luckily for me I love the formula so I'm enjoying both games.
@somnambulance Maybe you're just getting old now
I can just about sleep through anything after a day at work now.
Other than starfield I’ve only played Skyrim (through to the end of main campaign) and fallout 3 (only about 1hr, at the time it wasn’t for me). So for me it’s Starfield, I really love it. Kinda makes me want to go back and give Fallout another try
@InfamousOrange just posted similar, I think it’s the gunplay, makes it like a proper FPS, I’m really enjoying Starfield too
Starfield doesn’t sniff Elder Scrolls or Fallout territory
@tanaka2687 I believe the reason for this is that technically ESO was not developed by BGS but by Zenimax.
I put Starfield on top mainly because of it's setting which is a huge factor for me.
But it's a bit unfair to make that comparison now because Starfield is a new IP that just came out whereas both Elder Scrolls and Fallout are beloved franchises with decades of history/lore behind them.
I'm sure that 5-10 years from now this will be a much different conversation.
Skyrim is their best imo, followed by Oblivion and then Fallout 3. Starfield is number 4 on my list!
Skyrim is № 1 easily. Starfield and Fallout 76 is the worst.
the first experiences are always the best for me, so 2006 oblivion is the best RPG bethesda
I finally tried Fallout 76 today
Dropped it almost right away.
Character Creation screen was as far as I got, holy hell that was bad! I didn't even get past the face segment!
Uninstalled it! Never going back.
Skyrim is okay.
Needs more and better mod support.
Also needs to not have no nudity!
Need to be able to kill the annoying kids.
Fallout 4 was boring
I'm done with starfield already. No, I didn't beat it, I dropped it
Too many issues with it, chief among them is that it isn't fun, menus are tedious, inventory on ships is ridiculously small even after trying to upgrade both the frontier (no cargo upgrade) and some pirate ship also no cargo upgrade!
My ship looks like a hoarders nest!
Skyrim is the best, but I hope BGS keeps working on Starfield until it surpasses it
How the hell can starfield be considered the best?! It’s way too soon
Its early days for Starfield, and Ive yet to complete it so it might not be fair, but after about 50 hours Id still have to rate my top 3:
Oblivion
Skyrim
Fallout 3.
Im really enjoying Starfield, but its not winning a place in my heart as strong as the above titles. Still a great game though, its no disgrace to be nipping on the heels of those games, some of the greatest made imho.
Starfield by far! All the others are great but they shine only with mods, Starfield is the best RPG Bethesda made till now and it's almost perfect and doesn't need 100 mods to make it Shine! TES6 will raise the bar even higher!
@BundyDanger Lol. Definitely. I remember when New Vegas came out, I beat the game in a single 30-ish hour session the first time I played it. My body is not able to pretend it can do half as much a Herculean task in gaming now.
It’s Skyrim easy
For me so far I'd go
1) Oblivion (I wish that got a remaster so bad)
2) Fallout 3/ Skyrim are tied tbh.
3) Fallout 4
4) Starfield... However I will say I am only 18 hours in so far but I am really enjoying it and it has me hooked! Any gaming time I get between work and looking after the kids I'm straight on it! I'm wishing I could play more and feel like I've barely scratched the surface so far, there's lots of things I want to do, but get sidetracked or just not that far into the game yet! It does have potential to go up the list however its too early to call just yet as all the games above I went back to them time and time again over the years so I guess I'll only know over the next couple of years!!!!
@Exerion76 starfiled isn't that good of agmae at all
As someone that only really finished Skyrim, I am now 50h+ into Starfield and played the first couple of hours of both Oblivion and Fallout 3 I have to say Starfield is my favourite as I have now completed all factions sidequests and they are brilliant (got to a point in the main story where I am not that happy to but the one in Skyrim was also very forgettable so...)
Regarding fallout it has a thing I am not a big fan in scarce ammunition so it is hard to comeback to it.
@Dan1283 in which way is starfield not as advertised? As for example in terms of traveling from planets to space they allways said it was not going to be present in the game (just saying)
I have played Fallout 3, 4, NV, 76, Oblivion and Skyrim plus the dlc. 76 was just a few hours a year ago, streaming, and 2 thumbs down to that.
I will go with Skyrim from my list as the best rpg because of all of the character and game options. However Fallout is much more my type of game so my favorite is probably whichever one I am currently playing. Fallout 3, I first played a month after release in 2008, is very special to me, like a first love. Then there is FO4 and the hundreds of hours I have enjoyed in settlement building and maintaining.
@Lup Dude, by the time I finished that game (including the Shivering Isles expansion), it was 385 hours into the game. I purchased every DLC they had, including the horse armor. Lol.
It's Oblivion for me. 385 hours gladly spent on the game. Fallout 4 would have to be second. Starfield is somewhere pretty far down the list unfortunately for me.
@Balta666 I just don't think it is the gmae that was advertised at all constant loading empty planets screens terrible Ai and how many times am i coming across the same building on a different planets with the exact same layout it's pathetic i could go on all day to be honest that all being said its still a good game and I'm enjoying it it's still pretty addictive
@Dan1283 fair enough. Although I would say it is not that it was wrongly advertised but that people created expectations for something Bethesda never said it was in the game.
@Balta666 I do agree on that definitely the expectations were way to high with all its faults I'm still enjoying it i really am its good I think in a year or so time this game will only get better as well with all the constant updates and mods
Starfield has become my favourite Bethesda RPG overtaking Skyrim, I enjoyed it's main story more than any of the others and I'm still discovering it's side quests but I've already had lots of amazing moments. In this if you go and explore on your own then you probably won't have a great time, in the others you'll stumble upon actual quests but in this it's much less likely. Though I'd argue there is much more curated content in this and there are still some fun and seemingly random interactions and some of the coolest moments I've had would be huge spoilers, so I'm saying nothing
