Most of you probably remember the Medal of Honor series from its so-called 'glory days' of the early 2000s. A bunch of WW2-themed MoH titles graced the original Xbox back then, before the series started to die off in tandem with Call of Duty's meteoric Modern Warfare-fuelled rise to stardom. However, EA did attempt to follow in Activision's footsteps before all-but killing the series off, and the attempt spawned a very interesting project.
Essentially, EA went the reboot route with 'Medal of Honor 2010' as it's known - a modern-themed shooter crafted to try and compete with Call of Duty at the time. While EA studio Danger Close rustled up the game's single player campaign, the FPS veterans over at DICE wholly developed the multiplayer portion, and it was actually really fun.
MoH 2010's multiplayer, to sum it up, was DICE's 'Battlefield: Bad Company' framework turned into something that closely resembled Call of Duty. Lessen the importance of vehicles and classes, and add in loadouts, killstreaks and comparatively tiny levels and you're about there. It wasn't perfect by any stretch but DICE had a really solid Bad Company 2-based foundation to build from with this one; we ended up putting quite a lot of time into it back in the day.
Well, more than a decade after it launched, the game's servers are officially shutting down on Xbox 360 and PS3 this week on February 16th. The closure has been listed on EA's support site for a good while now — along with a few other Medal of Honor games including the backwards compatible Airborne — but this one in particular still had a small community going a fair few years after launch, and we'll be sad to see it go!
The game was never made backwards compatible so we haven't played it much in recent years, and we're not sure if there's even anyone left playing at this stage. As we near its closure later this week we might have to spool it up one last time though, in the hope that DICE's only Medal of Honor battlefields aren't a complete ghost town in 2023.

Thought it did get a sequel, Medal of Honour Warfighter?
@adderblack39 The series did get a sequel, but no input from DICE and it showed - Warfighter was a bit pants.
I wanted to see DICE have another go!
If you like MOH should definitely check out Medal of Honor Above and Beyond.
Made by Respawn(Titanfall, Jedi: Fallen Order) for VR. Fantastic MOH experience.
Like most CODs the campaigns all bleed into one another and I can’t remember which was which. Which one had Sturmgeist? Frontline? I loved that one back in the day
2010 was great. Still remember getting it launch day and laying it that weekend. Still have it in fact.
Server on 2010 has been dead on 360 for 3 years. It broke and they never fixed it. Still worked on ps3.
Its a shame to see MOH come to an end, the recent VR game wasn't received well enough for a reboot to be considered. Plus if they can't pump it full of micro transactions or make it live service, EA will never green light a possible sequel anyway.
@adderblack39 WF was Danger Close games. Only game they ever made to my knowledge.
whatever happened to that War game that was like "too Realistic" and got canceled because it was based after a real war... The news headlines were about a year maybe a year and a half ago... I think it was based in Felugia or Afganistan or something.
I remember the game play they showed had you clearing houses room to room and you never knew what would be behind each door or something.
Anyone have any idea what I am talking about?
I remember being excited for this...but then it got mediocre reviews so I never got it
@Stoned_Patrol
I believe you are referring to Six Days in Fallujah. As for what happened to it no one really knows its been on total radio silence since it's re-reveal.
As for MOH 2010 I actually really liked this one. The single player was well done as well as the multiplayer. I even got the Platinum on PS3! Never gave Warfighter a chance due to the less than stellar reception to it but part of me still does want to randomly try it one day. I know not likely.
Anyway RIP MOH. You were one of the good ones.
With Call of Duty dead, now would be a good time to bring back the Medal of Honor series.
I think DICE could have developed some incredible IP's if they weren't overseen by EA.
@Skedaddle all 3 were tested and only Airborne was successful for some reason. Airborne has the worst servers though, you can only search quick match custom in Ranked and it does a pooling system where it tries to pull in players. It's very easy to end up in the wrong game and have to spend over 2 mins just to leave, but one up side is once you get into your match, due to how the servers work, randoms cannot ever join once a match has started. I was in a match with my 3alts for over 3 hours because once it goes into overtime mode (ie nobody takes a flag), it lasts indefinitely in Objective Airborne. Perfect for grinding kills.
@Skedaddle i ran my 4 accs to help people get wins when they had been glitched on ww2 Victory medal and Dice had reset them.
