We highlighted back in February how a former PlayStation boss had called Blue Prince a Game of the Year contender, and at the time there was a lot of surprise that some random indie game was being praised so heavily.
Well... it's definitely a game of the year contender. The reviews have dropped for Blue Prince today, and at the time of writing it's got a 92 average on Metacritic (for PC), For reference, Split Fiction has 93 as the #1 Xbox game of 2025.
We're going to throw some of those reviews down below for you to take a look at, and you can watch the trailer up above. Blue Prince releases on Xbox Game Pass this Thursday, April 10th.
Here's what the reviews are saying about Blue Prince so far:
Digital Spy (5/5)
Blue Prince is a special game full of mysteries, secrets and mind-blowing moments with an addictive gameplay loop. It's so good that labelling this as one of the best puzzle games of all time feels like a disservice. Instead, it's possibly the most memorable experience I've ever had playing a game and I can't stop thinking about it.
Noisy Pixel (10/10)
Blue Prince is a captivating puzzle adventure that blends mystery, strategy, and procedural exploration into a deeply rewarding experience. With its daily-reset mansion mechanic and cryptic room designs, it challenges players to think creatively and plan meticulously. Though its difficulty curve and randomness may test your patience, the payoff is a satisfying journey filled with surprise, discovery, and player-driven problem solving.
Eurogamer (5/5)
Last week, after playing a massive Blue Prince session in which I got no closer to Room 46, I started to think about the school I went to back in the day. The school had 26 classrooms, and I know this - and can still remember it - because new kids were forever being sent to pick something up from Room 27. I fell for this more than once. We all did, but I think I was particularly susceptible to it. Partly, granted, because I never really listened or paid attention, but partly because I wanted there to be a Room 27. I wanted more strange possibilities from the spaces I lived around. With Blue Prince I get that. What an extraordinary game this is.
PC Gamer (92/100)
Grab a pen and paper. Lower the lights. Sit back, relax, and take your time. Draft your rooms, count your steps, and let the mysteries of the mansion slowly unfold to reveal one of the best puzzle games in years.
GameSpot (9/10)
Blue Prince is one of the most memorable video game experiences I have ever had. It is at once accessible and impenetrable, frustrating and euphoric. Like each of my dozens of permutations of the Mount Holly manor house itself, it is truly one of a kind.
GamesRadar (4/5)
Blue Prince feels truly unique in how it takes a simple premise and fills it with multiple threads of mystery to pull at. This exploration roguelike is like nothing else I've played, and became a puzzle obsession I just couldn't shake across multiple runs where I always felt like I was discovering something new. Even after credits, the mysteries of Mt. Holly continue to surprise me.
CNET (Unscored)
Blue Prince isn't for everyone. While most of the puzzles can be solved with whatever's in the room, there are some intricate solutions afoot that could elude casual players. The mansion's shifting layout and unpredictable room choices can make progress uneven — or even bring it to a halt if luck isn't on your side. But it's by far one of the most unique games I've played in years, and a true treat for puzzle fiends and mystery fans.

Cannot wait to play this! This is in my top 3 most anticipated games this month. Now it may have taken the number two spot (with Expedition 33 in first) having edged South of Midnight into third place. So looking forward to this...
Looking like a weirdo game that I tend to enjoy. I hope it has touch control on the phone so I can easily play it in chunks over lunch or before bed.
Holy hell! That's an impressive collection of accolades.
Good grief, those are some impressive reviews. I must have missed the previous article on this as it's completely new to me. No brainer on Gamepass though, great stuff.
Excellent! Looking forward to this. It's on PS plus extra too, so if you sub to that, you have a choice of where to play it 😀
Been looking forward to this one since it's first showing. Glad to see it turned out great.
@Titntin The only other game I can think of that launched into both Game Pass and PS+ day 1 was Sea of Stars. Big win for gamers.
@themightyant yes it's a win for everyone! That's how I felt about sea of stars too 😄
This has been my radar for awhile and super hyped to see what all the fuss is about… a rare gem is coming
My wife and I played through Myst together, we took notes, sorted through the puzzles together, and had a lot of trial and error. I think this will be a great one to play like that again.
Shout out to ID@Xbox and the general push the industry has to highlights indies and deliver these gem games to everyone. It wasn't that long ago that indies had to come out about their struggles with basic discovery on consoles. Silk Song is looking like another huge one. Even console makers like Nintendo, Xbox, and Sony know how huge indies are now and that's great!
I like these sort of games. One for the wish list.
no doubt the reviews on the xbox store will be more "gamepass junk" and something somthing about their nan
