So in other words, ubisoft are saying we're doing exactly the dame as ac unity but are dressing it up so as to attempt to avoid another brown stuff storm on the interwebs...ubisoft really are trying to wrestle the award for questionable publisher practices from ea of late.
Good news for MS, uk has traditionally been a strong market for the xbox brand so this will be pleasing for MS. To be honest, it deserves it too as the xbo has the much stronger software lineup and arguably always has. Ultimately, this close competition is good news 4the players as you start to get the feeling that Sony are getting a little complacent. Understandably so seeing as the ps4 is selling like hotcakes even with the arguably weaker software lineup
Firstly, great article. Thee honesty and transparency are much appreciated and hope you guys can do more stuff like this. Secondly, I kind of agree with a lot of the article and would much prefer sites have long term consumer interest in mind when deciding these things rather than throwing toys out the pram and refusing to review games point blank. The irony here is that over the years, statistics have proved that there is no direct correlation between good reviews and and high sales so why publishers choose this cloak and dagger embargo method is beyond me. It just affects the core gamers' opinions more than anything else and may harm goodwill towards a company/franchise but will do little to affect actual sales in any significant way. Personally, I only preorder stuff that I feel is going to be in limited supply as we dont have any of that 'get 10 bucks off' type deals and offers where I tend to shop.
Shame about the issues as I was really looking forward to this. 2014 continues on it's rampage of proliferating videogame disappointment. Id be willing to overlook the issues if they weren't as frequent and numerous as suggested so I'll just wait until they patch it more then get it as ive always been a fan of the series.
@hydeks not played it for thaat long ( 4-6 hours I think) so far im enjoying it a lot.the mission design and structure is very average, it feels like im doing endless fetch quests at the moment.not sure if this changes later on or not. The biggest plus for me is the simple joy of movement. Im having a lot of fun just going around the city looking for collectibles and just taking in the sights while raining fiery and acidic death from above. Theres a really good synergy between traversal and the city, both aspects compliment each other very well and im having more fun going around sunset city than I have done in any gta game. This might be because I love jet set/ grind radio and sunset od feels like its related closely so it's sitting well with my own personal preferences. The shooting part of the game I feel is a little undercooked. The auto aim generosity really undermines the challenge and I feel that the mechanics of the combo system and combat in general has been designed with accessibility firmly in mind at the expense of true depth and nuance. I understand this might not make a difference to many, but it's something that I would have personally preferred. To sum up, it reminds me of titanfall in a lot ways, that is to say that it's a very good game but falls just short of being truly great. Which is no bad thing and id definitely recommend it without hesitation for all the things it does get right. If you can, get a physical copy and if it doesn't sit well with you, you could always trade it for a decent amount seeing as it's a recent release.
Will be playing sunset od and bayonetta 2. Only played a little bit of SO but very impressed so far. I love the fact that it doesn't pretend to be anything other than a videogame designed for the enjoyment of the user, it's an aspect that I appreciate a lot. On a side note, I know it's 'cool' to hate cod these days but I ain't gonna lie, im super excited for AW on sunday night, hooo raah and other assorted macho war cries...
@EternalDragonX tricky one. Im guessing it won't work because you'd then have two copies of the game on two separate consoles having only paid once. Im just guessing though and cant say for sure to be honest. Might be a good idea checking xbox website for something like that
Waiting to pick this up with the white xbone on eu release on friday, looking forward to it. Im a little disappointed that, according to many, the auto aim id waaay too generous and the game's too easy but im not bothered as much as I would be because this game is like a doorway back to the year 2000, when the dreamcast was loitering with intent to entertain and it did just that with games in the vein of sunset overdrive (fun first, everything else later). Equally excited for the white xbone too, think it looks awesome in white
@HEADESTROYER4 agreed for the most part. It looks great primarily due to art direction and colour usage imo, certainly a good looking game. Dont agree with the point about campaign though, to even call it a campaign is a bit of a stretch to be honest. I get that its something new but simply put, its a terrible idea. When I was playing tf a while back I couldnt even finish the 'campaign' due to lack of players. I cant understand how on earth anyone at respawn didnt notice how bad it was, probably rushed and slapped in to meet deadlines presumably. There was no discernible difference between standard mp and the campaign save for some random little cutscenes but then when you have that without the context that proper exposition found in an sp campaign allows, you are left with a half baked excuse for a campaign merely pebble dashed into the game for the sake of it. More worryingly for tf is it's short half life, respawn should have focussed on an mp only game having longevity via number of varying weapons/perks etc rather than shoehorning a lacklustre campaign into the mix
I think it's hard to argue against the xbone looking better than the ps4 this holiday season that's for sure.in terms of quality exclusives the xbone is far ahead the ps4 as far as im concerned but the ps4 just seems to be the more desirable option for many people for a variety of reasons. In terms of best value for this particular holiday season, if you factor out future relevance, the wii u wins hands down for me. Then again it has been out a year longer so if it wasn't the best value at present, having had an extra year of releases, then something would be amiss indeed.
Bayonetta 2 for me.played a few chapters so far and been thoroughly impressed. More than I expected to be as well which surprised me a little seeing as the original was my personal best game of last gen. Should help next week go slightly quicker as well while I wait for sunset overdrive. Really hyped for that though im fearing it's going to be a disappointment when reviews roll around. Hope I'm wrong
I get the feeling that they have misinterpreted the word troll. Judging by the context of this, I think they used troll to describe violent/death/rape threats which I personally believe is way beyond the realm of what we, as gamers, consider trolling. Something tells me that the real trollers will be ok. Besides, the cost and manpower of trying to police actual trolls would be unrealistic for civil authorities to undertake. I do believe, however, that sony, microsoft need to take a stance and let people know (by banning them) that trolling isn't cool. Obviously that would never happen though, except through legislation, as the corporations would lose too much money. It is unfortunate and somewhat disheartening that for years, places like psn and xbl are rife with racism, sexism and homophobic slurs and yet in spite of all the bile and vitriol spewed out, nothing gets done. No consequences for the perpetrators so the message is basically, as you are people. Freedom of speech taken to the absolute extreme. Something needed to have been done about this years ago but now it's just a part of the package..shame
Would have bought this if I wasn't already getting the sunset overdrive bundle even though I dont like halo.the xbone looks awesome in white.looking forward to sunset overdrive as well, I just hope its good. Little worried it's going to be a disappointment seeing as anything hyped or big this year has disappointed
Not revisited it since it came out so don't know how it's held up but at launch I thought it was phenomenal and one the few metroidvanias that deserve to be mentioned with the titles that spawned the name of the genre. My main gripe with it was that I thought the art style was a bit bland/generic but other than that I loved it. Heartily recommended to anyone who has not played it
After yet another disappointing nintendo update today, this is nice to alleviate the pain (assuming I win of course). On the subject of disappointment, this week I also realised how hard it is to make a good team in madden ultimate team without using real life money, damn you ea, damn you...
@JQuest it most certainly is.I love mgs so im biased tbh but on a serious note, I paid full price for it when it released and ive enjoyed it a lot. A lot more than something like infamous which looked great but the actual gameplay left me cold.i would also say that your enjoyment of mgs:gz will probably rely on what type of gamer you are. For instance, if you're the kind that likes to replay missions or dont mind the length of a game as long as the quality is there then id certainly recommend it without hesitation. However, if you tend to play a game through only once for the story then you are probably better off getting physical then just trading it when done because if you don't replay it and/or take your time to soak it all in then you'll be done with it in about 3-5 hours tops. What there is though is really good, high quality stuff. Just get it on disc tbh so at least you have the option to keep it or get rid.hope that helps
@hydeks wondering if you could answer a question about diablo. Is the combat like dynasty warriors where its just mashing or is their more skill involved like evading/parries and whatnot? never played it before but am interested in this 1 but the reviews/videos I've seen don't seem to answer it in any informative way..
@EternalDragonX did you get my msg on xbl? Not been on for a bit so not checked, hope you got it anyway. There's a decent ubisoft sale on wii u so I downloaded splinter cell, child of light and rayman so will probably spend some time on that and obligatory Battlefield 4 multiplayer on ps4 in between. Other than that, the football season starts again this weekend (hell yeeeaaahh) so gaming may take a bit of a back seat
@mitcHELLspawn maybe ive just been underwhelmed with this new gen as a whole, I dont know, I just expected a bit more tbh especially as its naughty dog who have shown great expertise in using hardware to a good level.i think im still burned out from all the resolutiongate stuff at the start of this gen. All the time I couldnt help thinking does no one care what the actual gameplay is like?! Agreed about uncharted 4, that should be an envelope pusher.although it will probably still be stationery; )
@mitcHELLspawn no offence taken dude dont worry, this is civil when it comes to videogame discussions! Tried what you said and yeah its a serious difference but for me in a non twitch game like this its not the be all and end all. Just to be clear, I wasnt saying the ps4 version isnt graphically better, my initial point was that it wasnt as big a jump as I thought it would be thats all in terms of texture detail and whatnot.im sure you are right in that theyve boosted detail but I thought it would be more pronounced so maybe my expectations may have been too high or maybe im remembering the ps3 version with rose tinted glasses, I dont know. Finally, apologies for any offence I may have caused you during this, not intended that way
@mitcHELLspawn as for the mind blown thing, seriously?! You remind me of the bit war warriors back in the day. Just because the gaming media tells you its 60 fps or bust doesnt necessarily make it so.a steady 30 fps can also be fit for purpose. Personally, im just interested in quality games like the last of us whether its 30 or 60 fps, the game is still quality.
@mitcHELLspawn in the interview he technically doesn't say it because he didn't finish the sentence but it's very obvious that that was what he was about to say before he stops himself.interview can be found on 'metro gamecentral'.hit it up on google, should be near the top as it is a recently published article
@mitcHELLspawn a game developer praising their own game?!? Say it ain't so..the graphical upgrade is the primary selling point of it so OF COURSE ND are going to talk up that aspect of it, come on. I don't claim to know anything about that kind of thing so maybe I don't know what on earth im talking about or maybe it is my eyes im not sure. Or maybe im not overly fussy about such things and find it harder to notice, I dont really know or care as long as the actual gameplay and mechanics are good, that is what I get fussy about
@DRL don't worry, you'll soon forget when you start playing sunset overdrive and halo collection;) to be honest, at the moment it's quite difficult to choose between the xb1 and ps4. The top tier games are multiplat and the xb1probably just edges it in terms of exclusives but as someone who owns both, I can honestly say I wouldn't be missing either 1 if I just had 1 or the other. Of course I had to buy both to realise this myself but I am afflicted with early adopter syndrome
@mitcHELLspawn I used the same tv I used for the ps3 version.my tv aint a beast like yours but when soneone from naughty dog itself says in an interview you cant really tell the difference between the two unless you have them running side by side then I think that tells you all you need to know.dont get me wrong, I think it looks great and its a great game but the jump is not as much as I thought it would be. Im not even going to start on the fps due to how little actual difference it makes in terms of the type of game that it is
Will be continuing the last of us on ps4. I must say the graphics to me look the same as on the ps3 and reading a naughty dog interview last night he was about to say in one of his responses that you cant tell any real difference unless both are running side by side before he stopped himself from finishing the sentence. Good job its a great game then, I was just expecting a little more I think. Will also give strike suit zero a go if its available on games for gold in europe. Bit of mk8 and nights into dreams will round things out gor me. Happy gaming people
Mario kart 8 and Battlefield 4 (ps4) will probably be doing the rounds for me. I do have the destiny beta (ps4) but after being initially impressed with some satisfying and meaty gunplay and excellent lighting ive grown a little bored.it felt quite repetitive to me after a while and I probably won't be getting the full version.
@DRL I've lost count of the times I've rebought certain games over multiple platforms. Though entirely understandable in the case of guac and runner 2. Two of the very few memorable indie games for me personally
@DRL too true, do feel it adds llongevitybut I only get the trophy/achievement bug with a select few games as im not really skilled enough to acquire loads. With regards to olli olli, funnily enough thats exactly the reason I stopped playing it too, I noticed the vita left stick making a noise and upon closer inspection it turns out out it was crying from the pain of olli olli sessions
@DRL thank you very much.olli olli and bit trip runner2 are along with stardust and guacamelee my best dl games.cant remember the difficulty of tropies however. More to the point, dont be a trophy fiend and just play a great game man, c'mon!!! Seriously, olli olli especially is brilliant, highly recommended
@EternalDragonX ive sent the code to you.at least I think I have anyway, there was no notification to say msg was sent on my end.hope you've got it iff not just let me know ill resend it
@EternalDragonX ive just checked and it seems you are the first so congratulations. Either post your gamertag on here or send me a msg on xbl at heyzeus003 and ill send the code.
Will try to get as much time on destiny beta as I can .played it last night a little (after a lot of problems on psn trying to dl the thing) pretty impressed so far but still not sure about getting it so will try make my mind up. The new bf4 map pack has made me fire that up again and some rage inducing mario kart 8 online with the wife will be doing the rounds for me. Also I have a code for that zombie driver game on xbox 1 if anyone wants it. I won that comp here last week but judging by reviews im not gonna like it so id rather give oit to someone who might enjoy it as opposed to leaving on my hdd to die a slow painful and lonely death.if anyone wants iit message me on xbl my tag is 'heyzeus003'.first one gets it.
@Dohv id definitely recommend the wii u right now.some great games available now and more on the horizon. Like sinalefa says, with the wii u you're at least going to get nintendo's triple A stuff guaranteed. And the off tv play is genuinely awesome and a great option to have depending on your situation with family watching tv etc.i own all 3 8th gen consoles and for my money the wii u off tv play is the best feature out of all 3. The ps4 touchpad thing would be right at the bottom of that list incidentally, bloody pointless..
Titanfall.didnt play it for ages after launch and got back into it of late.the odd race of mk 8 and zelda wind waker hd are doing the rounds at the moment for me
Ideally a lot of what he said would be ok if true but the fact that dlc is announced way before release just stinks of publishers taking the p1$$ but if people keep buying it then cant really blame them I suppose.why make a content rich game when you can cut stuff and charge for it again after all..
@JaxonH was thinking the exact same thing.i have all 3 next gen machines and honestly if someone threw a towel over the machine and controller I definitely wouldn't think this is next gen judging by whats on screen.mind you, I guess the jump was never going to be like the jump between 16 and 32 bit and then 128 bit.having said this, really looking forward to sunset overdrive, arkham knight and with infamous ss, I think these sort of games will be a good barometer for what the next gen can do when not shackled by last gen
As a gamer yes, I want them to focus on ps4/x1/wii u.from a business standpoint, however, it's obvious they have to be cross gen for the sake of their profit margins which is fair enough.

Firstly, great article. Thee honesty and transparency are much appreciated and hope you guys can do more stuff like this. Im not even going to start on the fps due to how little actual difference it makes in terms of the type of game that it is
Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Twenty One
Happy gaming people
Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Twenty
Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Nineteen
@DRL I've lost count of the times I've rebought certain games over multiple platforms. Though entirely understandable in the case of guac and runner 2. Two of the very few memorable indie games for me personally
Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Nineteen
Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Nineteen

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Nineteen

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Nineteen
@EternalDragonX its cool.ill just check if anyone has messaged me before 8.30 and if they havent ill sort you out.what is your gameetag?
Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Nineteen
Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Eighteen
Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Eighteen
Titanfall.didnt play it for ages after launch and got back into it of late.the odd race of mk 8 and zelda wind waker hd are doing the rounds at the moment for me
Re: Decreasing Digital Resistance
Ideally a lot of what he said would be ok if true but the fact that dlc is announced way before release just stinks of publishers taking the p1$$ but if people keep buying it then cant really blame them I suppose.why make a content rich game when you can cut stuff and charge for it again after all..
Re: Poll: Do You Think Developers Should Make a Choice and Stop Focusing on Cross-Generational Games?
@EternalDragonX ye I guess in terms of this topic the wii u isn't really relevant. I was just listing all current gen machines really
Re: Poll: Do You Think Developers Should Make a Choice and Stop Focusing on Cross-Generational Games?
@JaxonH was thinking the exact same thing.i have all 3 next gen machines and honestly if someone threw a towel over the machine and controller I definitely wouldn't think this is next gen judging by whats on screen.mind you, I guess the jump was never going to be like the jump between 16 and 32 bit and then 128 bit.having said this, really looking forward to sunset overdrive, arkham knight and with infamous ss, I think these sort of games will be a good barometer for what the next gen can do when not shackled by last gen
Re: Poll: Do You Think Developers Should Make a Choice and Stop Focusing on Cross-Generational Games?
As a gamer yes, I want them to focus on ps4/x1/wii u.from a business standpoint, however, it's obvious they have to be cross gen for the sake of their profit margins which is fair enough.
